The other two reviews both covered alot so i just want to point out a couple things. 1) The comfortablity isnt that great, i use these when i play my electronic drums and they're shifting around a tad so its not bad but otherwise i can only keep them on for about an hour before i have to take a quick break. 2) I got mine for $130 which makes them the best value iver ever seen. In comparison to the Beats, they dont require a battery which is a huge advantage and says alot about the power between the two. The Beats are a LITTLE louder but not enough to notice a difference since you most likely wont be listining to them at full blast anyway. The sound isolation is insane! both ways! The Beats leak alot of sound and they only have the active noise canceling, while the M50's block sound going in and out, in other words dont use the beats in a quiet enviroment because everybody will be able to her your music just as clear as you. 3) These are Huge cans. they will look odd on just about anyone so take that into consideration. Also the sheer size of them makes them fairly annoying to carry everywhere, thats why i leave mine at home. 4) Like already stated they have a nice level range, I did find it a little too soft in bass for my own liking so i just use treble reducer when connected to my ipod. If you love so much bass that its distorted to dogs and dolphins alike then spend the extra $100 and go with the beats.
Best Uses: When I travel, At work, At home

What's great about it: Clear, accurate sound, comfortable headset
What's not so great: does take a bit of power to drive these
Prior reviewer was spot on with his comments, so I won't repeat all of the details -- in a nutshell, these "use at home" phones are very accurate, you hear EXACTLY what the source material provides, nothing more, nothing less. And yes, they are comfortable and relatively lightweight, considering the sound capability.
I've had these for over a year, and I most often drive them with a Denon 3311 AVR. Sound is very good, but I'm considering getting a headphone amp to improve the depth even more, as Denon (as most AVR makers) doesn't go overboard with quality and power for their headphone jack/amps, compared to the other component parts in their AVRs.
Yes, these phones DO work OK with my iPod Classic, with all Apple Lossless files, but definitely don't choose these if you plan to use them REGULARLY with an iPod, without an external DAC/headphone amp (e.g., nuForce icon or udac2) -- there are many better options out there for that (e.g., B&W P5). These phones are definitely designed to be at their best with a fair amount of clean power coming to them.
There is a lot of competition in this price range, and some VERY different designs and sounds -- e.g., if you like hip-hop or rap don't buy these, they don't have any artificial bass built in. These are simply a good solution if you want to comfortably hear all of the details for a variety of music, at home, from a quality amplifier source.
Best Uses: At home

What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: Not carried in stores
OK, so i was in the market for a set of really great headphones, at first I bought dre dre studio beats, BIG mistake, 3 sets of headphones later and i finally just got store credit, problem was the store didn't have anything i was interested in.... after doing alot of research on studio headphones i decided to bite the bullet and order a set of these.
Let me tell you, you will not be disapointed in these cans, every last detail of these has been designed with the user in mind, from construction, to durability and quality of componets used. After about 50 hours of burn in time i was BLOW AWAY by how amazing these sound, I am hearing things in songs i never heard before in songs i have been listening to for over 10 years, the only way i can describe it is you are hearing the song the way the artist meant you to hear it, which is good because the artist probably used a set of these in the recording studio in the first place.
These are extremly comfortable and lightweight but one look at them and you know it is a quality product that is not going to suffer durability issues, these also fuction as true studio headphones, meaning that they are built for extended use, and support a variety of listening modes.... which the studio beats by dre did not..... these also do not transfer heat to your ears.
The cord on these cans is extremly well built and looks like it can take a beating. These are not noise canceling, however the noise isolation works really well, on par with other noise canceling cans i have used with the exception of the bose cans, and you also don't need batteries for these :}
One more thing, if you are looking for a set of cans for an ipod or mp3 player don't bother as that is not going to have the power you need to push these, best to use these with a computer or reciever/amplifer. For an Ipod I would actually suggest the klipsch image s4 earbuds...best bang for your buck there... even i like those and i HATE earbuds. :P
