What's great about it: ease of use, reliable, great for PC and Apple computers
What's not so great: Price is higher than average for routers.
Previously ordered a netgear router - nothing wrong with it except it wouldn't recognize my apple devices. Too much headache to want to troubleshoot, so went back and returned it, and shelled out an extra $30 or so and go the Airport Extreme router. Set up super fast and easy. Haven't had any issues since. Would recommend for a home that uses both PC and Apple computers for its reliability, ease of use and set up. It also only has one light that doesn't blink, so if that appeals to you, another pro. Only con would be somewhat higher price, but very happy otherwise.

What's great about it: Ease of set-up, security, and nice design
I used to use a Linksys Wireless G but I found out that the signal was too weak for streaming or downloading videos. After some research this was the best router upgrade for me. Fairly easy to set-up. My PS3, laptop and mobile devices are all connected to it.

What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: None
I bought this router refurbished about a month ago. As far as installation goes, it was fairly simple. It didn't take me more that 10 mins to setup and I was ready to go. I had a d-link dir-655 before this and when I would try and watch neflix on my Xbox 360 it would cut out in the middle and adjust playback but ever since I have gotten this router it may do it once or twice, but overall it will play a movie all the way through in HD. Also, before, when I had the d-link, I would have to unplug and plug in the router to reset it so that it would work again. I have not had to do this with the airport.

What's great about it: Runs all devices. SImple once installed.
What's not so great: Not easy to install on PC devices.
I've been a PC user all my life and I've never had a apple device before this one, but my last Belkin wouldn't connect to my Apple TV.
This device did not come with a setup CD so I had to download from Apple. It was not easy, but that is my only complaint.
It works great. It runs my PCs and Apple devices. And it has a guest network. It knows when updates are available and lets me know.
Great device.

What's great about it: Easy to use.
What's not so great: Older Macs are not so compatible. But thats a given.
My Airport Extreme Refurbished Wireless-N Wireless Base Station came earlier than expected and was a gift for Christmas. I can use as far as my truck in my parking lot (100feet or more) and just because it's refurbished doesn't mean it's not good. This Airport works better than any NETGEAR produst I have ever experienced. Has a lot of ways to set-up wireless and hard line devices. I am extremely satisfied.

What's great about it: Excellent speed and range, perfect for Mac households
What's not so great: Apple's Confusing configuration tool
I bought this router to replace a 3 month old net gear n150 router and I must say it outperforms it in every category. Range finally isn't a problem in my 3 story town home. I used to have to constantly move closer to my router to watch video but now I have my router placed in the utility closet in the rear most location of the bottom floor and have no problems streaming HD YouTube video to the farthest spot on the top floor. The only complaint is the horrible Airport Utility you must use to set it up. I am an Apple junkie with 2 macs, 3 iPhones, an Airport Express, and 1 IPad, so I generally prefer apples way of doing things but this airport utility is rather confusing compared to Linksys and Netgear's web based configuration tools. The 5 ghz is great for those of you who like me deal with a lot of congestion from other peoples 2.4gohz networks in town homes and apartments. I have also found out that Time machine backups work flawlwssly with an attached external hard drive via the usb port. Overall this is a very nice router that is well worth it's high price especially if you have a Mac household like me.

What's great about it: For a mac user easy to set up
What's not so great: Price
I know the Airport extreme is expensive compared to other routers in same class.the refurb put it in a price that was still higher than other routers, but affordable. Being a Mac user installation was easy. Have had no issues using it. Now I need to upgrade my cable Internet speed so I can do more.

What's great about it: Extremely easy to set up even on a PC, great savings over new model
What's not so great: Did not include any software/drivers needed for installation
I hate Apple as a company for end user consumers (but love the stock/business) how they typically make items not upgradable or completely obsolete well before their product cycle is close to over. So I was very hesitant to purchase my first Apple item in over 20 years.
If you've ever gone through the madness of setting up a router that just wouldn't quite work correctly (I've probably set up 6 in my life) you will appreciate the Airport Extreme. Truly once I downloaded the software this was up and running within 5 minutes.
The range is as good as my previous Linksys gaming router even though the Airport Extreme does not have the huge antennas running from it.
The real plus for me was that now any printer with a USB connection (it does not need to be a network printer) can be easily shared on a wireless connection. This was huge deal for me. Plus with with the discount of being refurbished, the price was now in the same range as other Linksys and Netgear routers I was considering.
Only shortcomings was that it did not include the cd with programs/drivers absolutely needed for setup. So you must still have a current internet connection if you want this set up quickly.
Being refurbished i expected much more cosmetic blemishes, but it basically looked brand new (just without the original box). Definitely save your $$$ and buy this over the new model.

What's great about it: Easy, fast and works
What's not so great: Pricey
We replaced a cheaper wi-fi router that we were having to reset almost daily. We've had the Airport Extreme running for over a month now and have only needed one reset, and I think that that was because it had updated its software or something like that. Works great as far as we can tell. Certainly looks better, having no antennae. Super simple installation. These tend to be a little pricey, but we decided it was worth it so that we wouldn't have to reboot the router over and over again.

What's great about it: the n wireless speed
What's not so great: usb features only work well with a mac
i bought this router based on the reviews and features the router offers, it is not that bad of a setup, mine was the refurbished one, not sure if it was supposed to come with a disk or not but mine did not so i had to download the airport utility, got it set up, and the one feature i bought it for does not work, i liked the fact i could share a usb hard drive but after hours of reformatting the drive to fat32 and trying other configurations no luck, i tried to contact apple but i would have to pay for tech support since this item is a refurb. i was happy with the speed and thought i would keep it until it started dropping internet connection over the wireless every hour or so then has to be reset. it appeared to still have the configuration from the previous owner in it so i updated firmware and still have issues, i am sure if you get a good one of these they are great, but i thought they would do a better job on the refurb process, i am sure this is why it was returned before. even if everything works not sure if it is worth the new price, after 3 days of trying i am going to return it for something else or go back to my old linksys i haven't had to reset it for months.

What's great about it: It just works!!
What's not so great: Apple is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.
I have had many routers over the years but they never kept everything connected. The Airport Extreme keeps it all connected at all times. Now everything works together. The iPad, AppleTV, iPod Touch and my imacs all stay connected at all times.

What's great about it: Looks and performance
What's not so great: Setup and necessary PC software - no iPad access
I've owned every brand of router but I've always blown off the AE for two reasons, the price and because it's Apple. But, after getting it CORRECTLY set up I love it! Best coverage in my 3000 sq ft house out of all brands. I had trouble configuring the router to get an open NAT on my XBOX and actually had to do some work on my modem settings, so I would recommend professional installation for most people. I'm also not too crazy about having to either use my Mac for setup or using Airport software on my PC. Can't access the settings from my iPad. But no more having to plug and unplug the modem and the router trying to make it work. And it actually looks good sitting on the table in my office.

What's great about it: Sleek design and ability to set up second network
What's not so great: Price! Very apple-listic.
Even as a refurbished unit, the Airport extreme base station is still overpriced. Once you install it, it doesn't seem to perform any different than any other N- router out there. However, it does have a nice apple-like casing which goes well with my other apple hardware. One feature which I do like, which may be on other n-routers out there, is the ability to create a second network or a guest network. This works well if you want to allow visitors internet access but not necessarily access to your network. You can even set it up to where it doesn't require a password. I'm not sure if there's any connection but the apple tv I have set up upstairs works amazingly fast. I can stream my itunes library and netflix videos with very few interruptions or lagtime.

What's great about it: Looks good
What's not so great: Stops working
This Airport sets up easy enough, works great for a random period of time. Then locks up. Once you apply a configuration change, the unit locks up. The only way to bring it back is a factory default, re-enter in ALL your configuration again and then just wait for it to lock up again. Very disappointing.
Also, lack of web configuration means that you have to install special software to configure the unit. Not very helpful when your computer is off and you need to add a guest user. You should be able to web-in, make your change, log off.
