What's great about it: Nothing.
What's not so great: Build quality, performance, customer support.
I don't have this exact model, but I have an earlier version of the Compaq presario. This laptop has been the worst piece of electronics that I have ever owned. The battery died within 6 months, and when it was working, I would be lucky to get 2 hrs from a single charge. The slot where you plug in the power supply failed, and I sent it in for a repair. HP/Compaq returned it to me after a week, and they never fixed the problem. I sent it back, and it was eventually fixed(the entire process took more than 3 weeks). The screen started to intermittently fail right after the 1st year, when it had just gone out of warranty. HP is well aware of some of their known design flaws(particularly laptop hinges), and they will refuse to fix them even if they are under warranty. My experience with this product and company has been terrible. My advice to anyone is to plug in the brand/model into a google search and see what the known issues are and if the manufacturer addresses the problems.

What's great about it: The first year it worked great.....
What's not so great: Not built to last!
I've owned my Compaq Presario for two years and I'm not looking for a new laptop because this one has not been the best bang for my buck. It has had several problems since the first year (after the warranty expired...at which point you are on your own). The battery only lasted for six months...the cooling fan died a few days ago - fan is on the bottom so putting it on a flat surface blocks the fans...have had to put it on a stack of books to keep the fan open. It just hasn't been the best laptop I've ever owned. I just wish I had done a little more homework before purchasing this. I thought this would last longer than two years! This one didn't.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi everyone i brought this computer a year ago and i thought i will come back and give you my opinion on this computer.
The Con
1 this computer will over heat mine started to overheat and eventually the fan went out. price to fix at my local computer shop=150$

2 My cable that connects the motherboard to the screen is going bad screen flickers price to fix at my local computer shop=175$
3 As in all notebooks & laptops this one gathers dust like a dust buster but with this computer by the way it's made it is twice as harder to keep it cool lack of vents.
To fix will cost 2x as much at major store.
This is my advise it is low price computer so do not expect to much from it. If you can afford it or can hold out for something better i strongly would do so.

What's great about it: great for school work and everything else
What's not so great: battery life is roughly 4 years
I have had a slightly older version of this laptop for four years now. I have had absolutely no problems with it. I am just recently having to replace my battery, but it has been well worth the money. My boyfriend has been through 2 dell and a Sony Vio in the time that I have had my Compaq. I would not buy another laptop and HIGHLY RECOMMEND this computer to anyone and everyone! Very satisfied customer right here ;)

What's great about it: Easy set up, fast, light, quick charging

This is a great laptop!!! For those of you who don't know, Compaq is now a division of HP, so no worries about buying a generic brand. And anyone who is prejudiced against AMD proccessors can rest easy knowing that AMD is just as good.
My Compaq is fast, light, and has a very nice textured finish that will hide light scratches. The screen is very bright and clear, perfect for watching movies and videos. The touchpad has customizable sensitivity, so no worries about stiffness in fingers. The only problem is the short battery life, which is not a problem if you are near an outlet. It also charges very fast, too. All-in-all, this is a wonderful laptop that I plan to have for many years.

What's great about it: nothing, very disapointed
What's not so great: no SD card slot
no SD card slot, can't download photos from my camera's memory chip. This is pretty rediculous, I had no idea that any computer made today would not have one. My 5 year old laptop has one, why not this one?. I am not pleased at all. I will be looking into a return. also Microsoft Office will not load properly.

My research told me this Compaq laptop was a good choice for everyday computing and it definitely is. With a dual core processor and 3MB of memory this machine loads everything - applications, documents, webpages, and videos - quickly. The 250G hard drive is small by today's standards but more than sufficient for my needs. A 4th usb port would be nice and the touchpad could be more responsive, but this is a lot of machine for the price.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Display, portable, decently long charge
What's not so great: Speed of the computer all together. and the speakers.
I needed to find the cheapest fastest computer for a college student. After doing extensive research I expected the processor to be faster however it is only average I have had single core porcessors who are faster and the 3GB of ram doesnt make a noticeable difference. Regardless I havent had any problems with it. Its Speakers are barely audible but that its for problems. I has a nice wide screan. It is very light and runs programs at an average speed. My suggestion is if you need a faster computer , spend more money.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: The display - it's like an HD TV it's so clear!!
What's not so great: Can't think of anything, honestly!
My new Compaq laptop is a fantastic machine. I was stunned at how great it works and in particular, was just blown away by the clarity and perfection of the display. The keyboard is quiet and easy to use and the touchpad works really well too (when my hand isn't sweaty!) I've had no problems or issues at all so far and got a great deal by buying online from your store. And by bundling, I even got a multi-function printer/copier/scanner machine for $40! Amazing!! I can't say enough wonderful things about this computer! Whenever I get my next laptop, it'll definitely be a Compaq, for sure!!

I purchased this PC for my husband, his was several years old-one of my hand-me-downs. I have a great HP of my own but when this Compaq arrived, I was anxious to give it a try. I was so pleased. From the ease of set up (it walked you page by page through the process) to turning it on and letting him "try it out", it was amazing. He is a novice computer guy, does what he has to, but now he spends hours on his computer and loves the speed and functionality. I would choose a Compaq for my next computer AND what a great value for the price! You can't beat it.

It is very easy to use. Really fast. My family loves this computer so far. The graphic are are beautiful. The sound is Ok.

Occasional chirping sound from harddrive after four months. Requires software to make DVD eject button work and is easily deleted. Otherwise works fine out of box. ( I did not buy display.)

What's not so great: A little slower responding to commands than I expected.
I have another laptop with a Intel 4 gig memory. I have ask mant so-called computer experts if there was much difference between Intel and AMD Athlon processors. They assured me there was hardly any difference at all. I thought this unit would comparable at 3 gig memory would be about the same since my other one is over a year old. I am finding this one is a bit slower, a little unhappy, however for the price this is a good computer. Battery is life is good, display is very good. Overall for the price I am satisfied with this laptop.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: ease of operation and speed of opening
What's not so great: Stiff buttons on pointing device
After recieving my laptop, it setup easily and was working for my family within about 15 - 20 minutes. The display is clear and crisp, the sound is adequate, the operating system is much faster than Vista and quite easy to navigate. I would highly recommend this computer for anyone looking for a good general use laptop.

What's great about it: windows 7 is far superior to Vista
What's not so great: windows 7 when faced with transfering 100 GB of files will drop file and transfer only about 90% of those selected.
A month ago I purchased a NEW Compaq Presario Laptop with AMD Athlon II processor 3GB Ram, 15.6 inch display in black case. SKU number 1114512.
I received in a box marked with SKU1114512 a REFURBISHED Compaq Presario Laptop with AMD Athlon II processor 3GB ram, 15.6 inch display & black case. SKU number is actually 1272098.
How do I know?
That's pretty easy to decide.
1) The keyboard keys were shiny ie they showed definite signs of wear. The computer had been used and used for quite a while.
2) The touch pad left and right click buttons barely function and are erratic as though thoroughly worn out.
the 802.11 n does not operate however the 802,11 g does.
I thought the price was too good to be true.
