What's great about it: ease of use, wide range of funtions
What's not so great: A little pricey, but good value none-the-less
Bought this product last night, it took 30mins to install, update and get running. Its great, It has many cool features, yet simple to operate. It integrated perfectly with my Verizon Fios set top box. I bought it primarily for streaming video - picture clarity is good,
It has a great search feature which will search all media, on TV, DVR and the web. The keyboard is small, but it works really well - I was surprised that I was not punching in mismatched keys etc.
Great for the entire family.

What's great about it: Picture / Design / Extra Software / iNet Access / Android OS
What's not so great: No way to connect to Old, but not out of date, cable connections
The device is great! It's the next step in Home Theatre devices. However, leave it to SONY, to take a step forward in a direction THEY want, without thinking about what the rest of the world is doing. I can't blame them for doing things like Apple (which I LOVE) that has the power of 'planned obsolescence', but they are guilty of doing things their way and with no regard for whats going on around them.
I'll start with the Connection/Cable problems:
*NO Cable/Co-Ax Input/Output
*NO RCA Input/Output
*NO Input/Output other than HDMI/USB/Digital Audio/1/8" Audio/LAN - and ya, there are allot, but nothing that will connect to a "Not Brand new" Receiver, 'Out of the wall' Cable Co-Ax and/or any old school Home Theatre device you want to run with this (DVR, DVD Burner, etc...)
Also, they give you an AWESOME, does just about everything, Remote, but they should have included a small, basic function, operate in the dark, remote with it. Otherwise you'll be counting buttons at night just to Pause it.
Overall: The device has more Pro's, than Con's, and that review hit the stands this month. But Sony (and Apple) should learn how to play nice with others.

What's great about it: It is small and turns on everything you need to watch with just one button.
What's not so great: The remote is small with many buttons having more than one function. The small buttons make it hard to use.
The player is compact and fits most anywhere. It takes less time to come on and be ready to play blu-rays than our old player did. It can be set up to turn all things on needed to watch blu-rays or iternet with just the power on button for the player. It also changes the tv input at the same time so you are ready to watch. The down side is the small remote that is key board, mouse and blu-ray all in one. Several buttons have more than one function and can be difficult to figure out which functions they perform. It is a fun player and with a good high speed internet connection, you can suf the web on the big screen. I am old school and like a remote that I can use easily. If Sony ever gets the remote right this will be 5 stars all the way.

What's not so great: Netflix apps stereo sound
My biggest complaint about this product is that to my dismay, I discovered that the Netflix App was only available in... stereo mode. It seems tech support is not aware of this depending on who you speak.
Too bad this item did not fly as expected for Sony and the price being at $249 does not help. Otherwise good pic quality and sound on regular dvds or blu rays.

What's great about it: It looks nice, Google TV
What's not so great: The way that it connects to the cable box
I had to take this back as it would play any of the Blu-Ray's or DVD's I have. I didn't like the way you have to connect the cable signal lead with a bit of sticky back plastic to the cable box - seems a terribly make shift way of connecting the two. Perhaps might be better to wait for a version 2 of this.

What's great about it: Blu ray.
What's not so great: Everything else.
This item is hardly worth the money. It runs on the Google TV platform and unfortunately all of the websites you would want to go to and watch your shows are blocking Google TV. The interface is not very user friendly. If your not computer savvy you'd probably look at the Key pad and immediately be intimidated by it. With all of the blocks on it, the only videos of interest that are available are on youtube, because it's owned by google. You'd be better off buying a desktop computer with an HDMI port and a Windows remote, downloading Media Portal and connecting it to your HDtv.

What's great about it: Can do a little more with tele
What's not so great: Can only do a little more
I just picked this toy up a couple of days ago and I get antsy to get home and cruise through it. The components are a beautiful orca-ish and subtle eye candy presence in my little living room.
NOW THE REVIEW......
The setup was a nail biter because the quick setup guide kept displaying a router that needed to be present. I thought I was going to have to take it back since I only possess a hotspot. But it all hooked up fine! So simple, HDMI from Sony unit to the back of my tv, plug unit into the wall and I was done. I don't have cable so it's so straight forward. The instruction manual could use an update.
There was an immediate update that happened, I don't know what it did but I was off an running after that. I get the Internet just fine. It's reassuring to see the actual Internet in place here, password memory, search history, bookmarks, and flash. I haven't checked if opening multiple tabs is an option yet though. Also my unit seems to be getting better at tasks as I use it more, there was plenty of crashing in the beginning but now things seem to be settling down, and opening a video in an article happens like it should.
On to the controller now.I JUST LOVE THE DAMNED THING TO BITS!!!!!
Yes it does feel like holding a play station controller but it feels so natural, you just wanna lay on the couch and have it rest on your tummy and occasionally glance at it. THE BAD..the trackpad needs to be more sensitive. I should only have to swipe once across to cover a full page. The trackpad seemed more sensitive when I first started using the controller. Typing is a joy once you realize what works with the "fn" key, and what works with the shift key, but it's well thought out, comma key is just a press like it should be, period and number keys are also a simple single press, and shift works normally like it should with number keys and hyphenation/letter keys. Got used to it all on the 3rd day, posting on the Verge regularly now!
YouTube sucks on the thing, play store has like 7 or 8 apps only(but there is Evernote!). Netflix screen quality makes my LCD 42" look like an Atari at times. Preinstalled apps are good but I don't need baseball or hockey like that, I don't vicariously live through athletes. I need bluetooth. Something I don't think this has. I need properly rendered email pages, something I'm sure will come, I need clear and sharp images on Netflix, which I'm sure will come also.
OVERALL IMPRESSION.....
GET IT!!
Even if it's just for curiosity, plan to take it back if you don't like but I bet you'll see that this thing SHOULD be sold with a couch or LazyBoy!
I can't comment on Blueray, haven't tried it yet, but Blueray is Blueray right....

What's not so great: Nothing really!
I wanted to buy something that would let me browse the internet on my TV, check my emails, read news, listen to radio and watch movie online laid on my couch and I can say this device is exactly what I was looking for. Really surprised by the this device. You get a 3D Blueray plus Google internet TV--so the value is outstanding. I hooked it up in our garage gym, because our cable could not be connected in their-so I hooked up via our home wireless system.
The apps are awesome and very easy to upload and install. Interface was easy to learn and am now semi-addicted. Very good product-glad I purchased it, and would strongly recommend to those who want extra net accessibility w their TV.

What's great about it: It streams HuluPlus, Netflix, and Amazon Instant Video (via browser for Amazon)
What's not so great: You will need to buy GTVBox from the Google Play Store to stream from a Windows File Share or from Twonky
Once I figured out that I needed GTVBox I was amazed at what this device can do. It is pricey but I needed to be able to stream from the three major streaming services and from SMB file shares and Twonky Media Server. This was the only device that would work. The controller is big and the keys are tiny though. The newer model Sony has announced looks like that will be fixed. You can also download a remote control application for your iPhone to use instead of the Sony controller that comes with it.

What's great about it: displayed a beautiful picture
What's not so great: door would not open, firmware updating
I bought a SONY BLU RAY PLAYER, BDP-300, this was one of the first
blu ray players, $550.00 plus $129.95 for the BEST BUY warranty,
after about 3 years, but remember it was not used , maybe 30 DVD'S,
bought a new DVD and tried to install , and said I needed to update firmware. after that it would not open the door, I bought back to BEST-BUY, after a week they said, it could not be repaired,, they said I could pick a comparable bluray player, I ended up with a $149.95 LG blu ray player, which as good as the SONY,
the warranty , I paid for was not worth the money,, I thought I would end up with the same price BLU RAY PLAYER,
So ASK Questions, when you pay for the protection warranty plan,
I do not think , I will every buy another protection plan from BEST BUY,
other retailers, have way better plans, do your reserch,

What's great about it: Picture quality and internet access
What's not so great: Loud humming noise and will not play discs on occasion
I was excited when I bought this player (as a package deal with a Samsung TV) primarily because of the Google internet option. I am more than pleased with the quality/clarity of the picture and I use the internet option often. However, there are aggravations that take away some of the fun of using the player.
The player was relatively easy to set up; however, almost from the beginning I was getting a loud humming noise from the unit when a disc is playing. The player is stacked on a receiver and I initially used a book (and am now using another blue-ray player) to separate the player from the receiver – the solutions alleviate the problem. I have no other option than to stack the unit and this has been annoying.
On occasion, discs will not play...new ones, old ones, it does not matter. If I turn the unit off and then back on, they usually will work. We should not have to do that.
In my wife's opinion, the remote is a little clumsy and difficult to maneuver among functions. We have a second, older blue-ray player that she tends to use as she finds the Sony not worth the effort. I think that she would use the Sony if it at least had some simple controls on the unit, but the player is only operable using the remote.
Finally, a minor point -- I wish that Sony provided an option to purchase a black unit. The white does not blend well with the other components.
I suppose that picture quality is ultimately what makes a blue-ray disc player an attractive buy, and this one has a great picture. However, our annoyances with this unit render it less than desirable. I am a long time Sony customer, but would not purchase this unit again if I had to do it all over again.

What's great about it: Quick Netflix stream and web browser.
What's not so great: Doesn't play 3D blurays as advertised, poor tech support
I've always bought Sony products. This one has me wondering if their quality has slipped. This is a GoogleTV powered device with a bluray player built in that is promoted as a 3D bluray player. The internet stuff looked cool and worked OK, but this machine doesn't play the 3D blurays at all. There was supposedly a firmware update that fixed the problem, but that did not work. Wasted a lot of time with useless customer support which, after flailing around with their own FAQ website, threw in the towel and suggested I mail it in for service. Can't believe that one of their most expensive units, actively promoted as a 3D player, can't actually do that out of the box...and they want me to send it off for service. Right. Back to Best Buy you go. Disappointed. This product had potential but is obviously not ready for the market. Save your money on this one.
