What's great about it: everything?
What's not so great: AC adapter extra $
I'd thought of buying them photo keychains, but the screens are tiny and they don't carry keys anyway. This has a bigger screen and a relatively huge frame (4.5 x 3.25), good for messy little fingers. It's thicker than the photo here makes it look, maybe .75", but still easy to carry in a backpack or pocket. I knew they'd be disappointed with just empty devices, so I assembled a set of photos for them (only 55 out of 60 possible) including one each of a jpg showing only their name. By naming the name files ~~~name.jpg they come up first when powering up the device. I didn't like that the docs specified needing to use their photoviewer software to install (and delete) photos. Why not just drag'n'drop like a thumb drive? That may work? The software was easy, though. Look in the folder for the installer, why bother with the included rar file? The printed instructions for uploading photos could be better (as usual), but you'll figure it out no problem.
I was careful with the file sizes in kb. I didn't want to try loading up 3MB pix, so I got them to small email size first, maybe 150kb. Not sure it matters, but obviously RAM does. Aspect ratio doesn't seem to matter, though, they scale nicely on the display. The only thing I'd note as a possible negative is the speed of the transition from one photo to the next, maybe a couple of seconds. They do have transition "effects" so maybe that effects the speed.
The screen is nice and clear, the photos look great.
I would recommend this to a friend!
