What's great about it: Print speed, warm up, ease in setup and works with iPhone/Ipad via free App
What's not so great: keying in words using 'phone' touchpad interface is silly, and CD is not updated with Mac-friendly scan-software
I decided to buy this because of the reviews and went to my local Best Buy who did not have it in stock, so I did buy it elsewhere, FYI. When I got it home, I pulled out the instructions and was pleased at so many options for WIFI and answering machine/fax set up. The set up for fax was 'chimp-simple' as someone else here said, and my Mac found the proper print driver on the download site section in seconds, since the CD was not up to date. I was disappointed the CD did not have an updated version of the scanning software--apparently I'll have to buy it. But I can still do simple FAST doc scans from the Printer window, and impressively faster than my former HP Injet AllinOne scanner's speed. One unadvertised happy surprise feature; it works smoothly printing from iPhone/Ipad via the Brother IPrint App, book said not all models do. I should have bought it a long time ago.

What's great about it: Network printing, speed, good price for value
What's not so great: Doesn't print envelopes well, doesn't scan non-standard paper well
This printer is a little difficult to set up (software, settings, etc.), but the quality and speed are great. This is perfect for a home office or a very small work office with one or two computers. This printer isn't great at printing envelopes. It's pretty good at scanning documents using its automatic document feeder, but they have to be standard-sized pieces of paper or else they'll get jammed easily. Overall, I'm glad I purchased this printer.

I ended up returning this printer. I had a heck of a time with it staying connected to my wireless network. It would go to sleep before I could even find it with my computer. I tried to get through to their support, but had no luck talking to a real person with their limited hours, and decided it wasn't worth my time.
I purchased a Canon with the same features and price, and I had it hooked up and running within 20 minutes. I have a new MAC so I did have to download the drivers online, but it was very easy.

What's great about it: Lower cost less frequency maintenance than ink jets
This review focus on my setup experiences in light of some of the other reviews I read. I was switching from HP inkjet after a ink system failure.
I set the printer up on 3 macs, and one pc so far. I connected the printer to my router directly so I followed the directions for the wired setup on my first mac, using the setup software. The startup guide also had me set up a number of menu items. The interface uses the numeric keypad to navigate through the menu structure then the arrow keys to make selections. I had seen reviews complaining about brother printers stopping with toner low but still printing fine, and difficulty setting up toner savings. These commands are in the menu description in the basic user guide for instance 1-4-1 for toner save, but I have to experience how well they work. The setup software worked well on the PC and the Mac. The second and third macs were able to find the printer by adding printer in system preferences. I haven't been that happy with HP software and setup on macs, and with too frequent updated requests. The brother interface is very simplistic, and I am hoping the software won't update as much. I agree about being noisy when printing, but goes to sleep quickly so not a problem.

The toner cartridge in the box is a starter cartridge rather than the one indicated on the Best Buy marketing material. A full TN-420 cartridge will cost an additional $45.

What's great about it: EVERYTHING!
What's not so great: no faults as yet
I've been a Brother printer fan for at least 20 years and this printer further reenforces my feelings for their products. Although it took a few days to receive the printer since it isn't stocked in the store, the wait was worth it. This is my first wireless/network printer and the installation went very smoothly. I can't say that I had any setup problems and the wireless functions perform perfectly every time I use it. The printer is quiet, fast and has great print quality. If you're looking for a great reasonably priced mono laser printer, then I highly recommend the Brother MFC7880DW.

What's great about it: General performance
What's not so great: noise when not in sleep mode; but not a major problem
Got it on sale for $199 -- good value and frequently available. Used it for a few weeks and really like it. Using it with Nuance PaperPort which makes the scanning go smoothly. Have not used manual scanning feature. No problems detected. Good quality on scanning, copy, and printing. Can't verify fax yet. Set up went smoothly. Integrated nicely with network. Small compact unit. Expect cost to operate to be less than competitors. Speed is great except for highest quality of scanning.

What's great about it: Network scanning functionality, Fast printing, Duplex printing, Many features found in $$$ office printers
What's not so great: Non-technical users may need help with some of the advanced features
Pros:
- Network scanning functionality;
- Fast printing
- Duplex printing
- Many features found in $$$ office printers
Cons:
- None so far
Overall:
I have been investigating laser all-in-ones for a few weeks now. A few things were important to me. I wanted to be able to do duplex printing (automatic, not manual), fast printing and network scanning (that doesn't rely on PC software). This small formed all-in-one does them all and does it will.
From earlier years with Brother printers, I have always found them undesirable. However, with all the reviews from many other sources, I had to pick this up based on the features I wanted. I was not disappointed and will buy Brother again.
If there was any downside, I would say non-techinical users may have trouble setting some of the advanced features, but if you have tried to use the same type of features on more expensive models, they require equal or more skill level.
** NOTE **
I did not test the faxing (I have no use for this feature). Also, in order to do the "Email to Server" feature, I had to download this from the Brother site (I always go an get the software from the websites with new devices). Keep in mind, that if you have Windows 7 (64bit), then the software won't show up on the Brother site for the Email to Server feature. No worries, just go back and select Windows 7 and the software to update the printer will work just fine (it is just using Java).
