What's great about it: Overclocking
What's not so great: Nothing.
The 2500k is the best CPU for the price right now. I purchased this for my main computer and used the antec 620 liquid cooler to keep the CPU temps down. CPU over clocked to 4.2 Ghz with no voltage added. Runs @ 40c at idle and never has crossed 55c under massive loads. Its a great and inexpensive set up. Very fast and blows my Amd 6 core out of the water.

Almost as good as the i7 but it is cheaper. Has all the features needed for a gaming computer.

What's great about it: great price to performance, beast of a gaming processor, will last you a lot longer than a Phenom II x4
What's not so great: Only compatible with LGA 1155 motherboards, little upgrade path for those motherboards.
For ultra high-end gaming, nothing can beat the 2500K. Since games don't use H/T, spending the extra $100 on the 2600k is a waste. The money would be better spent on your video card. When you compare the 2500k to the 2600k there is almost no difference. In fact, you can see in some cased the H/T will slight reduce the gaming performance of the 2600k. This isn't enough to write home about.
In benchmarks, this thing is so fast that it will beat the other guy's 6-core Phenom II processors.
WOW and any of those MMORPG games seem to have a strange habit of needing a lot of processor performance. It seems this is the case with any game that has a lot of online players, including Black Ops. These games don't see much of a performance increase after you go above a GTX 460 or Radeon 6850, but they have a heck of a performance increase with a fast Quad-Core with plenty of L3 cache.
If you paired this processor with a GTX 460 you will never, ever see a lag in WOW.
About this "K" series processor. It has an unlocked multiplier and will give you Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics. This graphics solution is slightly weaker than the HD 5450. This would be best paired with a Z68 motherboard. For gaming, i would recommend at least buying a 6770 or GTX 550ti. If you're buying a dedicated graphics card and you don't overclock then look at the regular i5-2500
For those people who want a 2600k because they want the best, you will probably be wasting $100 unless you're encoding or rendering videos. For futureproofing, the H/T the 2600k has won't be much, if any use to you.
You will need an aftermarket cooler. If you're looking to overclock the processor as much as possible, check the other products I recommend.

Those of you that have the new type of mother boards that take only the 1155 get this one instead of the i7 unless if your going to media and doing a lot of editing. Mean while this is good enough and you save 100 dollars.

What's great about it: Fast, Overclockable, 2nd gen Sandy Bridge
What's not so great: doesn't do my taxes for me.
This little baby runs faster than Forest Gump. Anything I throw at it, it chews up and spits back with ease and never breaking a sweat. I'm waiting on the H100 water cooler to come in before I begin to push this baby to it's limits. Rendering video that used to take an hour only take 15-20 minutes tops. Stock cooler is junk but that's what we've come to expect from Intel. It is well worth the extra $30 or so to get the unlocked version of this chipset. This CPU hits the perfect mark for performance for the price.
