What's great about it: 3 computers, unlimited labor
What's not so great: Nothing
Tried to download an AP Biology practice test before finals and ended up getting a virus. Connected to an agent in less than 10 min and he did remote access on my laptop. Removed the virus in under 3 hours and then did a tuneup on the computer. Great service and didn't even have to leave my room.

What's great about it: Great service
Purchased a new computer and ordered transfer of data. Well, the hard drive failed on the old computer. We thought the data was lost but had a WD backup hard drive was backed using WD Smartware software which to the owner supports Documents, Pictures, Music,and email but doesn,t normally support Windows Live Mail unknown to us. But The Geek squad Ashley and her associates teamed up and found my wife's email which meant the world to her. The transfer took many hours of work but completed with great success. Nice job Geek Squad. Thank you

$199 for Tech Support for a year with a year of Antivirus included is a fantastic price, even if you just bring in 3 machines to have a tuneup done! Tech Support covers 3 machines in your house for Geeksquad troubleshooting and support, and there labor to fix problems. IE: Virus removals, PC Tuneups, Software installs, Hardware installs, Password resets, pretty much anything you would use them for. It also goes on sale for $99 for a year which is a FANTASTIC price... This also includes REMOTE ONLINE SUPPORT so Geeksquad can take control of your system remotely and fix it while you sit at home, and 1800 Geeksquad Phone support. Don't let these other reviewers fool you, this is THE WAY to go.

What's great about it: Old computer now runs like it's brand new.
What's not so great: Agents could be a bit more personable.
We purchased the one-year plan with a new laptop. My older desktop had a virus that the regular AV program just couldn't defeat. I logged on to the online tech support site, and the agent at the other end helped me get my membership number. He then took control of my desktop, and worked from 10:30 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. on my machine.
When I woke up, there was a note from the agent explaining what he had done. The virus was gone, and the computer was tuned up so well that it runs like new again.
We have another desktop that was gathering dust because the operating system had crashed. We brought it in to the store, and got it back four days later. It's running smooth and fast now. The support we have received has been excellent, and I recommend this to everyone.

I had inherited a virus on my Toshiba laptop. I knew the minute I downloaded it that it was a virus, but it was to late. So I fiddled around with it but due to lack of time, my judgement got the better of me and I took it to the local best buy to have the Geed Squad look at it. So I paid for the whole years service, which came with a new subscription to an antivirus of my choice. So I chose to go with different antivirus software and was told that it would be downloaded onto my computer during the repair. I told them that it was a looping virus, meaning that I could take it off myself but it kept replicating itself under another name on my computer, so it kept coming back. I told them that I can see all my files (pictures, music, documents) on my computer, but I can't get access to them because of the virus blocking me from having access. It took less than 10 hours before they called me to come pick it up. They told me that they took 9 viruses off, so I thought great, I will come and pick it up. Got my computer home and realized they hadn't done anything to fix it. They removed the 9 viruses from my computer, had turned off my Norton antivirus and windows defender leaving my computer unprotected. Didn't install the new antivirus software, and I still couldn't access anything on my computer. After an hour of fixing it myself I called them to tell them this and to request a refund. They told me that best buy and the Geek Squad don't offer refunds, even though they didn't do anything to fix the problem. I would not ever recommend this service to anyone. I was smarter than they were.....just didn't have the time initially to fix it myself which will never happen again, and i'm still stuck with a years worth of service I will never use.

What's great about it: Not much if the consumer does not understand the terms.
What's not so great: Everything
Read the terms of service for this service agreement. The Geek Squad will NOT warranty ANY of their work, no matter who's fault it is. Understand that the Geek Squad will not warranty the results of their service, or that it will meet the customer’s requirements, that the service will be timely, secure, or error free. Get a clear idea of what hardware is included in the Hardware installation agreement, ask for it in writing.

I bought the Geek Squad® Tech Support with my new macbook because I was told I could get my battery and my AC adapter replaced with this membership. I never had to use it until it was about 2 months to expire. I sent my mac to Geek Squad because it was heating more them usual and my fully charged battery was running out quickly. The agent who would do the service called me and said that he couldn't reproduce the problem in either case and he couldn't do anything. I told him that the battery should be replace but he said he wouldn't do it since for him it was fine. He shipped back my laptop and when I tried to used it, the battery was bad as usual. What the agent forgot to do was to remove the energy saver preferences, so if he wasn't actually using the laptop, it goes to sleep and the battery last longer!
Other agent suggested that I tried to call bestbuy partstore and ask them to send me the AC adapter and the battery using my membership. And what happen was that they sent me a different AC adapter and the battery took more than 3 months to come!! Wait! It got worst! My "new" battery is as bad as my old one! So, I called bestbuy partstore and what they told me was that they were finding a lot of this problem, but they couldn't do anything. They suggested that I should try to buy a new one, and later check if they would accept to do a refund!! What a nightmare!!!

What's great about it: Covers up to 3 computing devices, antivirus software, ongoing help online or in store whenever I need it.
I bought Tech Support in a Best Buy store with my new laptop. I was able to take advantage of a discounted price for this service for buying it with my new computer (saved $100). I'm set for a year of support for my new PC (virus protection, troubleshooting, etc) and since the service covers up to 3 computing devices I can fix up my old laptop and give it to my niece to use for all of her school projects. Plus I received 6 months of Kaspersky antivirus software - included with my computer and tech support purchase - nice. So far, I've been very happy!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Virus removal and peace of mind

What's great about it: Virus removal and more for a full year, on both my laptop and my desktop
What's not so great: Fairly large up-front cost (but I think it will pay for itself within the year)
I brought my laptop in to Geek Squad because it had gotten a virus and it was unusable. (Yes, I have a security program, but these things still get through.) While talking to the Agent about the virus removal, he let me know about this program. So I bought Tech Support, then left the laptop with them to be fixed. I was able to pick up my laptop the next day, virus free! And now, I have peace of mind that if anything else like that goes wrong, I'm covered! No more paying for removing viruses! Also: Part of this program is that you can use it on more than one computer. So when my desktop starting acting up, I brought it in for a complete check-up and optimization -- free of charge! It's covered under my Tech Support membership.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have not used the tech support service yet and I am already very unhappy with this service. At no point during the online purchase process does it indicate that you will have to wait for an access code to be mailed to you. This is Best Buy/Geek Squad - this type of move is to be expected from a local company, but Best Buy? Why can't they offer instant access to the support?
On top of that, I spent 40 min on hold waiting to address my problem with an agent, only to be sent to a mobile voicemail. Upon calling back, I spent 65 minutes talking with representatives and being placed on hold. In the end, I was told that I was not able to cancel my order because it had been sent for processing. What a joke. Complete waste of time. If you have an urgent need for technical service, this is not the route to go.
