Replaced the system in my Saturn myself .... easy, very easy .... great sounding system for the price. I've had some more costly systems before but this one beats them all .... for the price. I drive this car everyday to work and needed a system that would hold my attention.

The unit works fine if you don't listen to AM stations. If you listen to AM, you get so much static & humming that you can barely hear the people talking.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: Plug and play, multiple input-type audio settings

Alpine has always made an excellent unit, and this is no exception. Subaru came without AUX or USB plugs and lived without them for almost a year before I finally got around to installing... fired right up, talks to my ipod like they're brothers, and has separate balance/sound settings for each input... so Google Music through the AUX port from cellphone or camera can have diff't bass settings than the iPod or a CD - which doesn't seem to matter until you really hear the difference between sound input types.
Excellent quality, using factory speakers, absolutely no complaints. Installation was a breeze - the hard parts as always dealt with the car and wiring... the stereo itself was plug-and-play.
Five stars.

Everything works well but a little confusing on iPod playback when using mp3 settings....does not respond well to multiple playlists. I find using a simple connection through the front port in the deck's auxillary setting is much easier...just control your tune selections fron the iPod itself.

Excellent sound for the money. The high end range is sharp and clear. The USB flash drive input is awesome – just load your desired songs on the flash drive and plug it in. No more CD skipping or scratches. I am very pleased with this unit.

Its a relatively cheap unit and in terms of sound quality it's evident but other than that I love it and would recommend it to anyone.

The alpine 50W is an excellent low end replacement car stereo. The sound quality with just the original speakers is excellent.

This reciever replaced the stock deck of my Camry. It has great sound quality. I bought it for use with my Iphone recordings.
The reciever disables the IPOD funcitions of the phone and only allow for reciever control. While this is designed to keep your eyes on the road, it is slower that using the phone. If you use the aux setting you can use the IPOD and it sounds just as good.
Expand ability is limited as the preouts are for subwoofer only. However the Alpine 6x9s I got sound great. I may not need to upgrade in this car.

I have not upgraded my speakers yet, but the sound is outstanding compared to my previous Pioneer receiver. Never have I heard sound so clear. I have heard the "Alpine" sound, and I will not go back. I am a convert, in fact my wife who also has a Pioneer wants an Alpine now! For the price you can't go wrong, it doesn't have a remote control or the flashy color changing displays, but they spent the money on what counts, the internals and you can hear the difference! It may be lacking a low pass crossover for the sub, but most amps have one so not a big deal. I can't wait to upgrade my speakers to Alpine! Great Job!

With a 10% off coupon BB sends out frequently the deck was under $100! That's worth it just for a USB recharging port in my car : ) Sound quality might be higher but I'm running it through 7 YO factory speakers so my rating is what I hear.
Doesn't come with a remote and the deck controls are not intuitive for iPod use. Comes with both USB port and Aux inputs. But for under $100...
Recommended for cheap people like me : )

What's great about it: Isolates highs/mids/lows well, plenty of power output, simple to use interface, ipod connectivity, comes with ipod cable
What's not so great: Puts out so much power that I am gonna have to buy new 6x9s :(
I was deciding between the Kenwood kdc248u and this unit. I picked this and I am so glad that I did, it is amazing! It brought new life to my Kicker 5.25" and 6x9 speakers. Picks up a lot of radio stations that my old Sony stereo wouldn't. It does come with an iPod cable so that is a plus.
I was quite impressed by this unit and I strongly recommend it to anyone looking for an entry level stereo. USB works very quickly is easy to navigate, however, it does not allow you to control from the ipod itself.

I had added an Alpine to my auto last summer and the auto died. This is an even better model as it is simpler. Add a hard drive and never bother with radio again nor CDs.

I bought this head unit for connecting to an external amplifier to drive my two door speakers. Apparently this unit was only designed for using the RCA outputs for a subwoofer. You cannot turn off the "subwoofer" feature in the receiver to convert them to normal outputs like on the CDE-122 I ended up exchanging it for. The greatest problem is that the outputs are not stereo! The other problem is that the volume is so low I had to turn up my amp gain to the maximum and still had to adjust the fader forward to balance with my headrest speakers being driven from the CDE-121.
Even if you did connect a subwoofer, the CDE-121 lacks high/low pass filter features.
It's a sturdy-feeling unit that's easy to use and would be great for someone who just plans to use the head unit, but the expandability is just not there.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I would strongly recommend this stereo to someone looking in this price range. Feels and looks much more substantial and better built than most others for the money. If you are looking to build a high end system, wouldn't be the best choice since the sub controls are very basic and there is no hpf. But if you are looking for a great all around stereo with good sound quality and integrated ipod/mp3 controls, this is a great buy. Only had mine for a few days, but no complaints of any kind.
I would recommend this to a friend!
