What's great about it: Garmin GPS
What's not so great: Buggy software, only 1 expansion port.
So there I was thinking of upgrading the OEM stereo in my car. I look around and find the DNX7180. Wow lots of features HD radio, Satellite radio, Garmin GPS, Ipod/Iphone connectivity. In short the works. Now read the fine print.... If you want to have HD radio then you get no XM/Sirius. And if you choose satellite then no HD radio for you. It's a shame that you have to pick either not both for $1200. And of course lets get into the "bugs" in the system. What ever you do don't make the mistake of pushing 2 buttons within a few seconds of eachother. This will cause a hangup that will no doubt require a reboot. Save yourself time and money and pick another radio.

What's great about it: Screen
What's not so great: GUI, OS, Only supports Apple, slow
Rushed out bugs and all is the Kenwood DNX7180! Super slow interface, freezes, un responsive keys or maybe just really slow... Worthless icons ok ok enough. The skinny is great screen and bright. Awesome Garmin navigation. Bluetooth mostly works but as of today does not sync Pandodora via BT nor USB nor does SMS text work. Most icons do nothing unless you buy a bunch of accs. OR and I mean big ORRR have Iphone or Ipod. This unit pretty much is only worth a darn right now with Apple connected. That leaves several million of us out. I have an Android phone and therefore a good portion of the unit and icons do nothing. I like the fact that I can have Nav on one side and something else on the otherside of the screen however, option one BLACK BLANK screen bummer option two, a list of icons which turn purple if you push them whoo hooo lol. No presets on sat radio just FFband and RR lol No logos for Howard 100 nothing. The text on that screen is the smallest ever. GL seeing the channel or who is calling. It DLs your phone book but for some reason dosnt DL the contact pic which would be cool on the caller id screen.. Will not treat Android phones as MAss storage device for pics or anything. Its a bit complicated to figure out I still cant figure out how to do some things. I guess I am spoiled had the Frod Sync system which the OS was great in pretty much everyway. My old DD Pioneer did about as much and somethings better. Not sure if this is 1.0 GUI or OS but omg it needs some serious love lol I would wait see if they add and fix the software before you THINK you are upgrading. In most cases I would say this is NOT any kind of upgrade. And if you dont own an Apple I pod or Iphone this system may never be worth a darn. Shame for the millions of non apple users.
