What's great about it: Looks nicer than a boom box
What's not so great: Expected better sound from Sony
We like to listen to cds and FM radio in our bedroom and needed something a little nicer-looking than a boom box. This is a nice looking receiver with bookshelf speakers. Unfortunately, whether cd or FM music, the sound quality is rather cheap-sounding. In particular, the bass tones are almost non-existent no matter how you adjust it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: All functions work very well. FM reception is excellent. Sound is balanced and has depth.
What's not so great: no headphone jack
This system can be used in small or mid sized rooms. Plenty of volume without distortion. I do not use the ipod function but rather the auxiliary input for my sony mp3 player. I would recommend this product to anyone who appreciates great sound quality in a small footprint.

I got this to play some CD's, some FM, and some stuff on my Ipod. It won't play the Ipod. I spent a half hour with Sony's tech support and they say "4th generation is not supported".
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this stereo after reading another review that said they wanted to make sweet, sweet love to this stereo. I was in search of a sound system that could drown out my downstairs neighbors stereo. When they play their stereo, all you can hear is bass, but with this unit I can actually hear the artist and not just the music. Like my neighbors, most peopled play their stereos so loud that after a while songs become distorted and your are no longer enjoying the artist who recorded the song. Old cuts, new cuts, it doesn't matter, they all sound great. Just one thing, there are no additinal input or output sources. I was hoping to maybe run a cable from across the room and hook the stereo up to my computer hard drive, I'm sure that's what the ipod dock is for but it would be eaiser for me for play straight from my computer, and it could use a multiple cd changer, but other than that this is just about the best stereo I have ever bought as far as sound goes, I can hear it throughout my entire three bedroom house.

I was looking for a small system with a big sound and after reading the reviews I purchased this Sony Micro Shelf system.When I got everthing hooked up and poped in a high quality recorded CD to my suprise this puts out a wonderfull warm sound.The base is wonderfull and has a excellent overall sound reproduction.The EQ botton on the remote is actually a seperate bass and treble adjustment not a EQ Band.There really is no need to adjust it from a flat response,it is a perfect balance of bass and treble at defaults.No it wont rattle the windows as the big boys will but the sound is pretty impressive for a little system and fills a medium size living room with sound..Its sounds way better in the home then in the store and blows my boss out of the water at less then half the price.

Before I bought this, I did not know it was possible for a stereo to be so small, so clear, and so AMAZING! When I first set it up and played some of a CD, my jaw dropped. Comparing to my previously stereo I had in my room, this stero has ASTOUNDING BASS, CLEAR SOUND, BREATHTAKING LOOKS, SMALL STATURE, and NO BACKGROUND FUZZ or CRACKING. IT EVEN CHARGES MY IPOD AS I PLAY IT. It is perfect for my space, has perfect sound, and has perfect looks. At high volume, it has no problem playing rock songs clearly. I cannot think of one thing wrong with it. Every single dollar spent was worth it. What a beautiful electronic...

This is the second one that I have purchased. I am an artist and work in clay and watercolor so I have two studios. I liked being able to put my Ipod on shuffle and listen to music all day long while I work and the Sony is a nice compact system with great sound for a great price. I don't think you will be disappointed.

What's not so great: No AM tuner.
Bought this for our kitchen/dinning area. Fit easily into a shelf area and run speaker wire over top of cabinets. Easy to set up and great sound for small unit. I wish it had AM tuner, missed that when I purchased. My iPod Touch connects easily onto the dock but cannot use the plastic inserts because of the cover on iPod. Sony overlooked that in design. Great Buy!

I rated ease of use as good as I'm not user friendly on some things. But I LOVE it . Salesman was VERY helpful & answered ALL my questions.

What's not so great: No plastic ipod adapters included for different ipod models.
Works well. Sound is pretty good with some decent volume. I wish it came with the plastic ipod adapters for the different model ipods. I couldn't find mine and I'm just using it without one and it still works okay.
I'm using the ipod touch 4th generation. All in all I thisk this is a good product for the money. Small enough to be somewhat portable to move easily from one location to another, which is what I was looking for.

What's great about it: Small, lightweight and excellant sound.
What's not so great: Speaker connections on the receiver are Sony proprietary.
I purchased this system primarily for use outdoors during the summer. I wanted to get a system that was small and compact but didn't sound like a cheap boom box. After increasing the base settings, the system sounds excellent for a micro-size unit.
The only issue I have is that the speaker connections on the receiver are Sony connectors. Ideally I would like to use outdoor speakers with this unit without having to splice into the existing speaker wires that are perminately wired into the speakers. So far I cannot find adaptors for the unique speaker recepticles on the back of the receiver.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I bought this stereo very last minute for a housewarming party I was having. I needed something to play my iPod music on, wanted decent sounds but was pleasantly surprised with this bad boy. Excellent sounds, easy to use, small/compact and very stylish looking. You can't go wrong with this purchase!

I needed a nice small shelf system for listening to the ipod or radio in a small room. I shopped around for a while before finding this gem. When I bought it BB just got it in and didn't even have it on display. So i had to buy it just by what I know about Sony audio Equipment. My hunch was right on, this thing sounds very nice for it's size. Not much bass obviously, but mids and highs are awesome. This is a great little system

What's great about it: Easy to use, Works well with iPhone 4 as well which is not listed as a compatible device. Sound quality, Nice look.
What's not so great: Antenna HAS to be used. Even with antenna, radio tuning is still not that great!
I was skeptical about buying this product because of other reviews I read about it being perfect BUT for only small areas like a bedroom. I am absolutely pleased with this product! The sound quality is great! The features are great! The sound even resonates throughout my house well (although my house isn't that big (single story, open floor plan), you be the judge).
Overall very pleased! My only issue is the antenna which HAS to be connected in order to tune into radio stations, and even then I had to struggle to get it to tune correctly, still a little static. I COULD blame it on the way I have the radio position as well as my location...
The box lists the iPod/iPhone it's compatible with but does not list the iPhone 4. No worries, it works just fine with my iPod 4th generation and iPhone 4.

Ok....I am an audiophile. I take sound quality very serious. I also have a recording studio. This little system is a steal! If you want extremely good sound for a small space, this is your answer. I bought this system last week after listening to everything I could find for under $300.00 I have a cabin in the Texas Hill Country and wanted an inexpensive, small system that we could use to play our I-pod through and would also have a FM radio. This system had the best sound quality I heard. Voices are exceptionally good. Very clear and smooth with no harshness or un-natural emphasis to any part of the vocal range. This is true for both female and male vocalists. Highs frequencies are exteneded and clean. Bass is acceptable given the small speaker size. Better than I had expected. The bass also does not have any boominess. I listened this past weekend to jazz, Adele, Allison Kraus, Van Morrison, the Carpenters....all sounded fantastic. Overall far more real and natural sound than the Bose i-docks and it has a FM radio which the i-docks don't have. Don't expect this unit to blast you out of the room with volume or rock the house but it will provide more than ample volume.... but if you are looking for an inexpensive system for your i-pod to enjoy good music in a smaller room or office, this is the ticket!

I am very particular about the quality of sound i get from my audio systems. When i saw this at the display, i never thought that the sound
is going to be that nice and the power is also reasonable. Good for a small room or hall. Nice buy for anybody on a budget and who looks for quality sound. Remote has some functions which is not on the system, so use the remote carefully.
