What's great about it: Sound quality, great value for money, inputs
What's not so great: haven't found anything yet
The quality and features available in this receiver for the price can't be beat. I used this receiver to replace a 12 year old Kenwood receiver that was still working fine, but had outlived its usefulness as AV center (no HDMI inputs) This new receiver has 4 HDMI inputs along with regular component and composite view and optical, coax audio. It supports pass through 3D via HDMI. The setup and configuration is straightforward (if you are used to setting up this kind of device) and the instruction manual is easy to follow for any questions. The sound quality is great at all volume ranges.

What's great about it: excellent sound, good price
What's not so great: a cable input would be great so that the TV signal could be channeled first through the receiver
Excellent sound quality, especially for the price. Difficult to set up, especially for someone who has not had surround sound before and has not used HDMI cables. There are too many settings that have to be made independently of each other and the manual is no help at all. It was a help that input and output sockets are distinguished from each other by color coding. Volume settings are not intuitive; most times, one needs to use a negative DB setting so the volume will not be very high. A USB 3.0 input slot would be a good feature because my LG HDTV doesn't has one but doesn't support some of the audio specs supported by the Yamaha receiver.
This product has... Plenty of power for all my needs, Good multi-zone capability

For the price this is a really great receiver. I am thankful to the salesman at Best Buy who listened to what I needed and suggested this lower priced Yamaha as being exactly what I needed for a small living room and bookshelf speakers. Because I was saving so much on the receiver, I also bought a center channel speaker that I had wanted for a while. The combination really fit the bill for me.

What's great about it: Crisp clear audio and great surround separation
What's not so great: Use is not very intuitive
This is the best sounding receiver I've ever owned. I would've paid twice as much if I knew the home theater audio would be this good. So why not five stars? The controls take some time to get used to. The interface just isn't as user-friendly as others I've seen. I still recommend, though.

What's great about it: Clean looking unit, easy programming, not as deep as other units (for those with limited space)
What's not so great: Cannot be universally controlled with Comcast remote.
Overall, I am not an audiophile and I'm using the unit in a small room with less than optimal cable configurations (no HDMI here). I was looking for an inexpensive unit and it does the job I require of it admirably. However, the unit does not work completely with Comcast's silver remote with the gray OK/Select button. Comcast's recommended code 0176 will control the volume and mute functions, but will not turn the unit off and on (I could to all this with my old Yamaha receiver). Not a deal breaker, but in this day and age of connectivity, I expected complete functionality. Not a big deal--I'm still keeping the unit.

What's great about it: A fantastic value and beautiful sound.
What's not so great: Nothing. I love it.
I absolutely love this receiver. I replaced a 10 year old Yamaha with it and the difference is absolutely stunning. It has a beautiful equalizer in it so you can choose what type of sound you want for each type of input, then it stays in the memory until you change it. I am using a pair of Polk bookshelf speakers and the sound is beautiful. I can only imagine what bigger speakers would do, or even surround sound. I bought this based on other reviewers' comments, and they are all right! It is the best purchase I've made in a long time.

What's great about it: sound, plenty of connections for the average person, and remote is programable to most tvs
What's not so great: Not a lot special features
This is my first AVR but I done lots of research before even lookin at AVR's(Audio Video Receiver's)...
I use it for DirecTV and PS3 and its great.... There have been times while playing a game I have heard something behind me and actually paused the game to get up and look to see what it was (and I have cheapo speakers hooked up) haha.. lots of adjustments can sometimes be overwhelming but do your research and youll be fine...
I love the fact that once I programmed the remote for my TV I could push the tv power button and it would cut the tv and the AVR off.
the only issues I've had is when using the HDMI control (that is awesome btw) I cut my PS3 on it then cuts the AVR on and the AVR then cuts my TV on... the only problem being is i get video but no audio for audio to work i have to cut HDMI control off the back on and i have audio
the other issue is when switchin from HDMI to AV5 (where my directv is hooked up) I get audio with a blank screen, if i switch to radio i get the radio and the directv video then back to av5 everything is right...
Best Buy said its an internal issue and is going to switch it out for me
(PS for those that say RUNS HOT, it will run hot unless there is some sort of air circulation around it... other wise the heat it produces will just sit in and around it)
VERY PLEASED
This product has... Plenty of power for all my needs, Easy to use controls, great starter avr

What's great about it: price, simplicity, sound, inputs/outputs HDMI
What's not so great: no internet connectivity, remote has too many buttons
I was in the market for a reasonable good receiver. I had to return an Onkyo from Crutchfield, because it wasn't working properly with my TV. I purchased this receiver for its features and price. The setup was very easy and it switches HDMI outputs fairly quickly.
Pros It has lots of HDMI outputs and the sound is pretty good. great price USB Ipod output
Cons: no internet connectivity, remote has a ton of useless buttons, and doenst have a setup screen on the tv. Set up is done through the screen of the receiver

What's not so great: size would be nicer if a smaller box
It does the job. It was easy to setup and figure out how to connect to components. Mostly I use it as a speaker system. I run all components to my TV and then sound through here. I use it to play the mp3 player music. Worth the price and happy with the system.

What's great about it: Sound and Features for the Price
What's not so great: Nothing
Have had two receivers now, First bought in '07. Needed to update to one with HDMI switching and this fit the bill. As with my previous receiver, I like the "scenes" Yamaha has built in. You select these defaults and sound is adjusted without you having to tweak a bunch of things, basically preset sound templates such as Drama or Action movie. The HDMI switching seems to have no impact on picture or sound quality. Everythin looks and sounds great. Handles 3D wonderfully.
I also appreciate the simple fact that 5 years later my first one still runs fine. Durability will win my loyalty over features, etc...

What's great about it: 3D, Price, Style, HDMI
What's not so great: Remote lacks light, nothing bad on actual receiver
This receiver is an absolute steal at this price when compared to its features and capabilities. The sound is crystal clear, the 3D passes thru flawlessly to your big screen. Yes, the wattage is lower than listed but its actual 500W is truly plenty of power for most speakers. This is my 2nd Yamaha and you really cant find a more consistent brand. I'm running Cable DVR, PS3, and a Sony Blu-ray player (all with HDMI) without any hiccups. Some people may not like the fact that the remote doesn't have a "light up" feature for easy operation in the dark, but it is only a minor complaint compared to so many positives. Go get this today, you wont be sorry.

I would double check the specs on this unit with Yamaha's site it is not a 675w receiver according to Yamaha,,this don't make since it is the entry level unit the v471 has more features and more watts...this is not the first time I have come across something like this here at Best Buy...do your homework before you buy....

What's great about it: Great price, Great Sound
What's not so great: Nothing
This receiver works extremely well in all funtions ,extremely easy to set up, only thing I noticed, if you switch to FM mode from the HDMI inputs, volume increases dramatically, but once you know this and turn the volume down before you switch it is not an issue, sound is crisp and clear, my old pioneer receiver can't even compete with this one. If you are looking for a mid-price A/V receiver this is the one
