What's great about it: easy to set up.
What's not so great: controller is too small.
I loved the product so much. Except that in order to scroll it can be quite irritating. Perhaps in the near future you guys can come up with something that will make scrolling/ browsing more efficient and faster when using the web. Other than that it's a great product.

What's great about it: Works with SlingBox
What's not so great: Controls are challenging
I purchased the Boxee Box because it was only one of two media players that worked with SlingBox. I use to "place-shift" my DirecTV satellite feed and stored DVR programming to my vacation home via DSL internet connection. Since, the Logitech Revue was not available at my local Best Buy, I chose to try D-Link's Boxee Box. It serves it's purpose well. The remote is compact and small QWERTY keyboard on the remote flip-side is functionally useable. I have big thumbs and even I can use it. There are a myriad of apps available including a web browser. They duplicate many of the apps already available on Panasonic Vieracast. My only gripe is that navigating the menus and apps with the remote is slow and difficult. There are many times I wish I had a mouse or touchpad to move around the screen. The directional control buttons to move the pointer in a scrolling link motion is frustrating. Using the Boxee Box with Slingbox is challenging, too, until you learn how use the Boxee remote to select the icon button to tell the Slingbox remote in which direction to move the DirecTV controller. Get it? With some practice it is possible to navigate quickly but good luck in explaining it to your friends when then they are over. At least, you don't have to hold a full size QWERTY keyboard with touch pad in your lap.

What's great about it: Web browser, Access home network files, QWERTY keyboard, iPhone Remote
What's not so great: Unconventional form factor
I purchased boxee box last week and I'm more than satisfied. It meets, rather exceeds, my expectations.
I was looking for a unit that will:
1> Lets me access websites on my tv
2> Lets me access files on my Mac / PC home network
3> Offers great quality (1080p HD)
4> Has a QWERTY keyboard functionality for ease of use
This box offers all of that and more!
I'm not much into apps and that kind of stuff. My expectations were as straightforward as above. I was researching a product that meets the criteria and there are not many. Roku, Apple TV all fell short. They offered other features that I didn't care about. Logitech revue came close and I was almost going to purchase it but then I found out about Boxee, read the specifications and reviews and decided to buy it. I saw it was sold at BB and was available in the store near me. I just grabbed the car keys, went to BB and bought it.
Set up: I plugged it in and there was pretty much no set up. Connected to the interent, connected to home network without a hitch. I see that the OS is also very easy to use and intuitive.
Remote: Remote uses RF and so you don't have to point it to the box, with no hurdles in between, to operate. I've kept my boxee box inside the cabinet and it's almost out of site. I just see the boxee logo when it's lit. The remote operates flawlessly.
QWERTY keyboard: It is on the other side of the remote and is the right size. It's much easier to handle compared to revue's keyboard. Everything about this box is exceeding my expectations. I started missing the "trackpad" but then hey, they have this free iPhone app which serves as a keyboard, remote and trackpad. I always have my iPhone with me so I just use it and just makes it so convenient.
Home network: Connecting to home network was really smooth and setting it up took me less than 1% of effort it took me to set up one with my xbox360.
Web Browser: Love the browser and I can watch videos on web sites, listen to music etc..
If I've to find any negative things, I can think of price (compared to revue) and then the shape. It's unique and I actually like it but at times I prefer a smaller, standard puck shaped form factor. Both are trivial issues for me. So I give it 5 star.. Love it!!!

What's great about it: Not really sure! Guess it may be good for streaming T.V shows and movies. Have not tried that yet.
What's not so great: Lots of bugs! Boxee Box guys should go back to the drawing board
Purchased Boxee box mainly to stream my home movies from my PC's external hard drive. Setup is very, easy. Navigating around screens, easy.. Playing my homes movies, a nightmare! Information concerning types of files Boxee box will play is correct, and you should visit their website at "Boxee support knowlege base". However, when files are created they use codecs to create them. That is where the trouble lies. Sure they say it will play .avi and .mp4 movies, but if they were not created with codecs that Boxee box can decipher you will have a mess. My .avi files play in slow motion, then loose sound. My .mp4 files play sound and have no video. It will play .mkv files great. But who has that type of file! And if you want to convert your files to .mkv, well, if you have lots of video like me, you will be converting till the end of time. That type of conversion takes forever and a day. Good luck!

What's great about it: Quality of video and versatility
What's not so great: Price and endurance
I fell in love with Boxee box the first time i set it up. I value good product design a lot, and it felt people at Boxee chose utmost care to present the best details on every aspect to make a great first impression. For outer box, to unpacking, amazing form factor, simplicity and elegance. The setup was a breeze. Remote is designed very well as well with a Qwerty keyboard at the back.
Pros:
1)Great video quality - full 1080p
2)Versatility - plays all video formats, including MKVs, AVIs, MOVs etc. Even played 3D movies.
3)Beautiful design and very user friendly interface
Cons:
1)Price
2)RF only remote, its annoying if you have video distribution or a central AV hub, you have to buy a separate IR USB attachment for you to control this with a Logitech Harmony remote.
3)The video shares are a little moody, they may dissapear sometime.
4)Occasional lockups
5)The sleep mode uses as much power as the "on" mode
6)Playing music is a little primitive
Even though my cons outweigh the pros in terms of number, things which matter the most are quality and versatility and it performs really well on that. Overall i would say its a great product.

What's not so great: no major shortcomings
Ease of use for beginner a well as more advanced techies. Not all browser functionality the same as your tablet/netbook/laptop/pc. Netflix app is very good. Control is adequate - could be easily improved with backlighting. Digital optical out is a good plus.

What's great about it: A cool unit with a lot of great features
Very cool unit. Interface is nice and it has a lot of great features. Not the easiest to set right up and if it needs an update it's going to update. So in my case, using it for demos, I had it do that to me mid-demo. But otherwise it's cool.

Boxee support is highly supportive, innovative, and best of all, they listen to customers when considering upgrades. As the current version stands (1.5), there's a ton to offer, but still some room for improvement; I'm on my second Box after the first repeatedly crashed and wiped out my information, though I've had zero issues with the new one since replacing it a month ago. Network utilization is a bigger issue -- on a very fast broadband connection, the system doesn't always seem to allocate resources to the current App/operation, causing some lag (e.g., MLB.TV). Also, there's a few obvious basic features missing (like being able to shuffle video playlists). However, I definitely get the impression that we're only a version away from the best all-in-one out there. The current version is a bit pricey, but hopefully that will be rectified with the next free upgrade.

What's great about it: Great for watching movies on hard drive
What's not so great: seeing Qwerty keypad in the dark is difficult.
This is our second Boxee, we have on one on our main TV. When I finally got my own TV for my craft room I wanted a Boxee for myself. We have been using the other one for more than a year and find it easy to use. I am no techie and I managed to set mine up and use it on my own, no help required. As it is constantly being developed and new features appear I can only believe it will get better, I do agree about back lighting on the qwerty keypad, that would make it even easier to use. Over all I am very happy with Boxee, just have to stop myself from sitting in front of TV all day on Netflix!

What's great about it: The idea of it.
What's not so great: The execution: unstable OS, no Silverlight
... But all the advantages I thought it would offer over the roku just didn't work as anticipated. Bought the Boxee due to being able to surf the web and stream from the Internet but the troubles started nearly immediately as the unit froze/crashed right out of the box. Streaming was nice when it worked but quickly we realized it is a limited feature. Without Silverlight compatability, it only streams a few things we were interested in. The Netflix app wouldn't run without crashing. Realized that for us the Roku would offer same options, so we returned and bought the competing item. If the Boxee were more stable and supported Silverlight, it would be totally worth the price tag. But the unit we had was pretty terrible.

What's great about it: Wide range of media accepted
What's not so great: N/A
In regards to media streamers I have own them all. I own all apple products and look for quality and polish in my products and the boxee box tops my list. I have eliminated all of my physical media players because of this little guy. I have a very large collection of HD movies. My collection ranges from small 3 gb 720p video with 2 channel sound to 32gb 1080p DTS-HDMA 7.1 sound. This media player plays them all beautifully. Just on that basis boxee box is worth the price. But then there is the large collection of providers that provide content on the fly. Not to mention the ability to watch live tv with an adapter. This player is leap and bounds beyond capabilities from its competitors. Awesome buy!!!!!

What's great about it: Best player for personal media collection
What's not so great: Web browser
I bought a Sony Blu-Ray because they support DLNA (stream your own media collection), but they really stink at it. They do recognize network drives but they only recognize about two video formats. The Roku doesn't recognize network drives at all (no DLNA support at all). You have to plug your drive directly into the ROKU and they suck when it comes to multiple video formats as well. The reviews of Google TV have kept me away from that and I hate Apple products because it's their way or the highway (force you into the itunes paradigm which I can't stand). I have yet to try the WD or LG boxes. BUT, I do own two of these Boxees and love them. They keep updating their software and getting better all the time. They recognize about six different networking protocols, found my WD network drive hanging off my netgear router just fine and play all my video formats without a hitch. They also have a huge selection of apps in their market. I pretty much use Netflix and Vudu exclusively but there are about 200 others. Surprised they don't have Amazon, but Vudu has most of the same stuff anyway. My only complaint about the Boxee is their browser, but I see that is a complaint with every media player that has a browser (which most of them i.e. Sony, Roku, etc. don't have anyway). All these companies need to get the web browsing experience refined (better remote, better browser, etc.). Summary: If one of the main reasons you are buying a streaming media box is to have it play your own collection of ripped movies and music, this is the one for you.

What's great about it: Features, subtitle support, format support, wireless, includes an HD cable
What's not so great: Cost; weird shape might not fit on low-height shelves; some convenience features should have been there for the price
Overall, I like the Boxee very much. It's got great support for media of all types and nearly every format. It streams shows from the internet very well and makes available dozens of apps and features.
It blows away the features on my DVD players although it is not cheap.
My favorite distinguishing feature is the subtitle support. If your movie file supports subtitles, Boxee can use it. But if the movie doesn't have a subtitle, you can ask Boxee to search the internet and it will download a subtitle file for use! When we watch movies late and don't want to have the volume too loud, this is a killer feature.
That said, there are lots of little things Boxee could have done better. The remote's querty keyboard is nice and I like that it uses some kind of radio frequency instead of infra-red (line of sight not required!), but as some people have said, some back lighting would have been handy. Also, the menus in Boxee don't "wrap", so if you get to the end of a list, you have to cycle through rows to get to the top, you can't just keep clicking through; if you attach a hard drive full of movie files to the Boxee, this can be a bummer to navigate.
But if you love movies and you have subscriptions to the services Boxee supports, it's a great way to pull all of it together on your favorite tv.

What's great about it: Plays any type of video and organizes it for you.
What's not so great: No track pad on remote.
I've tried almost everything. A home theater PC with Windows media center and Xbox extenders, XBMC, the free Boxee software, myth tv, Logitech review, and TiVos. Nothing beats the Boxee box. It's simple to use and plays every video file type I throw at it. If you have movies or TV shows you've ripped, it automaticly gets the cover art, and other meta data for you. It also uses a lot less power than an HTPC. The newer ones have a dedicated netflix button. You can disable that in settings so it's a pause/play button again. The only place the Boxee is lacking the the music player. But with Pandora, Spotify, and all the others, it's not much of an issue. You can now get live TV on Boxee from either over the air HD channels, or QAM cable signals (free with broadband), with the $50 tuner adapter.

What's great about it: great idea if your patient with growing pains and a dark remote
What's not so great: dark remote ,customer service, high price
This is just my opinion. Tons of content on this thing and loads of tweaks for video heaven. I became fed up with the remote control rather quickly and their customer support was not to good. I had a hard time swallowing the price with all the othe comparable products out there. Smart DVD player's, Roku etc being roughly half the price and most with the content I watch. So I returned it. What's great about it: Easy to setup, lots of programming, lots of options
What's not so great: No touchpad on remote, lack of updates (no ESPN3)
I love the Boxee. My wife loves the Boxee. We got rid of cable a long time ago and had been using our laptop to stream online content to our TV. And we could still be doing this if we wanted to...but it is a hassle to take the laptop out, plug it in, start it up, pull open a browser and then have to walk back to it anytime we wanted to pause or watch something else. The Boxee starts up very quickly and gives us much more content much more easily.
We each have our own profiles so that we can load our own favorite shows and apps and switching back and forth is no problem. Being able to pull media files from our computers is another big plus.
The sound is great, though I don't get a true surround sound out of it. Unfortunately, and this is not a fault of Boxee, but Netflix does not offer 5.1 surround for Boxee to make use of. The keyboard is on the back of the remote, and though it is small, it is not too small to handle. One problem I have with the remote is that I often handle it upside down because it feels and looks the same both forward and backward. One would think that the Netflix button would be a giveaway, but in the dark, it would be nice to be able to tell the difference by touch.
The biggest problem with the remote (and it is not truly that big a problem) is that when you use the built-in browser, you must use up/down/left/right keys to move the mouse one click at a time. Over time, you get better at handling it, but it would be nice to have a touchpad.
Another issue that I have is the updates. It seems that they should come more frequently, especially when something as big as when Flash gets updated and Boxee does not update itself to reflect this change. This will leave you unable to watch some videos online (FOX, ESPN3).

The product does everything that I purchased it for.
While I wasn't sure, I was hoping that the browser was compatible with the Flash plugin so that I could stream video over the web. Unfortunately it does not. Also, using it to access satellite services via slingbox does not work either.

Great device, has it's quirks, to get to your apps you must be logged into your Boxee accn't. Occasionally their website, servers etc.. are down and you can't use your apps. HDMI out is great. Use; Slingplayer app works excellent. Watch NFL Network at Dad's, he has Crumblevision..

What's great about it: QWERTY keyboard on remote, ease of operation and connection options
What's not so great: NEEDS DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS on the GUI. make all 3 modes of audio live at all times.
I LOVE THIS THING! But, (you knew it was coming) I wanted a HDMI streamer that would connect directly to my flat screen AND also allow an optical audio to run to my reciever so that if I wanted to turn on the surround sound I could. My Lady is not a fan of surround sound and prefers the simple life with it coming from the TV alone. Heck she is just getting the handle on changing the input from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2...and truthfully I don't need the stereo on all the time. This device though requires you to enter into the settings and switch the HDMI audio to the optical or analog. All 3 are not live at the same time. All of my DVD players have all 3 live at once. Why not this thing? Really not enough to take a full star away but would have been a 4.5 if that was an option.
We wanted a streaming device and tried 3 DVD players with it built in. All of their GUIs sucked compared to this one. How uterly ingenious is the QWERTY keyboard on the back of the remote! It sure beats the onscreen [up] [up] [left] [enter] using a cursor on the screen or the imbedded "phone" numberpad method. So after the third try failed to produce anything other than more frustration I was going to buy or build a media 'puter and a friend told me a friend of his loved this thing called Boxee. I owe them a huge thank-you for saving my mental condition and what few strands of grey hair I have left on my head.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Plays any type of video file from my collection
What's not so great: just a bit of lag loading up vids
Came over from XMBC and must say this is a great box. Tried Roku (whatever..) and had some issues. A bit slow loading up videos from my server but has no issues during playback.
I would recommend this to a friend!
