What's great about it: Easy to connect to from the computer
What's not so great: Setup difficulties, lost connections
After experiencing loss of connectivity on multiple computers several times in the first two weeks of usage, I reset the unit to factory and re-configured. So far it appears to be functional. I purchased Cisco because of reputation, and was surprised to have the issues right out of the box.

I was pleased with both the ease of installation and the performancy of this product. I am able to use my laptop throughout my house with no problem. I felt the price was fair comparable to other products on the market.

What's great about it: Easy Parental features, USB storage, stable signal, guest access
What's not so great: "Easy setup" button on front
I upgraded from a Linksys Wireless G router I've had for four years that was pretty good. But with three ipod touches, two android phones with wireless, xbox, wii, macbook pro, laptop and two desktops....well...it was time to increase the bandwidth.
First off, the "Easy setup" button on the top is awful. I setup the router initially, then thought I could simply press that button to setup other devices....it sets that device up, but it resets the security code! Argh. I just did a factory reset #easy# and set it all up again.
Without that button, setting up all the wireless devices, home network, some basic parental controls and the external hard drive took less than an hour.
I'm not exactly an IT expert...I can work and figure almost anything out, but I often don't have information at my brain's fingertips. I only had to reference Cisco's website once to see that the external hard drive needs to be mapped #easy#. In fact, with the program "Cisco Connect" it all is SO easy! I can now access my router from my laptop to set basic parental controls.
I think for even more improved performance I could have gone with the dual-band router, but I really wanted a shared network drive and couldn't justify the additional money for the other router.
Regarding Cisco Connect - understand you can still access the router's settings directly, but this is difficult for most people. Cisco Connect is a Windows program that allows you to set restrictions by device name #time of use, forbidden websites#, setup up Guest access #internet access without network access - great for the number of kids we have coming through our house#, connect a new device, and additional settings for the router.
I've had this for three weeks without a glitch. I live in a spit-level house with the router on the upstairs front room. We receive the signal a few houses away.

What's great about it: Low price point and easy to setup
What's not so great: overall range isn't that good in a larger home
I purchased this wireless N E1550 router to replace my old wireless G linksys router that I got back in 2005. I bought it mainly because it was on sale and I thought it would be a slight upgrade over my old router.
I have the router in my basement of a two story house. What I immediately noticed was that the range and signal strength of this router wasn't even as good as my old wireless G router. The package indicates "extended range" which I don't feel is very accurate. I guess if I just said "reliable range" that would be more accurate. The range probably wouldn't have been an issue in a single level house or apartment. Other than that the router worked just fine.
After doing some more research that I should have done to begin with I don't feel I purchased the correct router for my needs. Other than needing better range I feel that with the number of wireless devices I use and the house and the amount of netflix streaming I do that the best theing to do is pruchase a dual band linksys router. I returned the E1550 to get an E3200 series router.

The install was simple & straight forward. I have had no issues with dropped data . I have not yet figured out what (or if) SpeedBoost does anything other than have a fancy marketing catch. The range seems to have more limitations through walls / floors than other wireless routers that I have used. The USB feature seems like a cool idea, but I don't see myself using that feature. I also like the "guest" access feature.

What's not so great: Could use a little better instructions
Very good router. Installation went well with user-friendly instructions. Just be sure to use the ethernet cable that comes with the router as it appears to be a "crossover" cable. I attempted to use a cable I already had, and the installation failed every time UNTIL I used the included cable. Linksys should let you know to be sure to use their cable to save a lot of frustration.

What's great about it: performance, easy to set up
I bought this router to set up WIFI at my restaurant. I have it between the cable modem and a network switch which all other devices are attached to. Setup was easy. I used both the CD and web-based setups. In about 15 min. I have WIFI on guest connection up and running! The restaurant is around 3,800 sf. and I am getting 5-bar signals throughout the store considering the router is placed on top of a Dell workstation under the office desk in the back of the kitchen! I also ran a speed test which shows near 15M download speed. I am impressed! Time will tell the reliability aspect...

What's not so great: No USB printer option
I'm sure this is a fine router if you are purely using it for a router, however I purchased this router based on the information from an associate and from the Best Buy site stating this router would allow a printer to be hooked up via USB. After purchasing the router and hooking it up and then trying to add the router, the option wasn't there. I contacted Cisco support and they assured me that the only models that support this function are the E3200 and E4200. I hope this review helps someone else not make the same mistake until Best Buy can get their website updated and their associates better informed.

This router did not have the drivers for the IMAC, the manufacture web page is not up to date, there is no phone tech support, they have a inept group of techs, that can't give a simple solution. I wasted about 5 hrs and gave up... I returned the darn thing. I got a Apple Airport instead it works like a charm

This item replaced a similar one from Netgear that was harder to install and whose signal gradually got weaker and weaker until it was unusable (never heard of that particular malfunction, has anyone?). This item is working GREAT so far!

I bought a Netgear router a little over a year ago and kept losing the connection. We have multiple devices connected to our network, (3) laptops, ipad2, (2) smartphones, (2) desktops, PS3, Xbox 360 and a Wii.
The setup was incredibly simple, 10 minutes tops and we have been running all of our devices any given time and many time multiple devices. I have NEVER dropped a connection yet!! Our house is 2800 sq/ft and the router is downstairs with everything else upstairs. Great product for the price!!
