What's great about it: excellent price point
What's not so great: runs little hot
This is a good entry level receiver. Has HDMI switching which is required these days with Satellite/CATV, XBOX, etc. Manual writen for middle ground understanding across range of education and skill levels. Subwoofer interface is an RCA connector - which is standard for 98% of all SUBs. OSD is nice feature at this price. This is my 6th reciever in 30+ years as audiophile.
This product has... Plenty of power for all my needs, Interfaces well with TV, Easy to use controls, Good multi-zone capability

What's great about it: Great amount of options for a very good price.
I was very happy with the 4 HDMI in's and the output on it. Very decent sound for the wattage. Relatively easy to setup once you get the hang of the menu,

What's great about it: Sound
What's not so great: Nothing
That's what I found out, so the Insignia brand did not cause me to 'second guess'. Actually, Insignia does make some good stuff. This receiver is great. Plenty of power, acceptable THD rating. Great value. The best part IMO is the 'Direct' listening mode....no extra processing of sound whatsoever. It can't be beat #for an entry-level receiver#.

What's great about it: great value
What's not so great: physical descripton online
I really have no problems with the receiver itself. It functions as described and the sound quality is excellent. But the specifications on the web site describe it as being 4 1/8" in height, when it is much closer to 6" in height, so it doesn't fit where I planned to install it. Of course, if I'd checked the manufacturer's site, I would have known it was too tall for my plans. But I like the receiver, so rather than return it and continue shopping, I'll come up with an a different plan.

What's great about it: Easy set up, excellent sound and great price
What's not so great: nothing yet
Originally purchased a much more expensive Denon, however it was a complicated (for me) setup with a CD rather than normal manual. This meant running between my computer and the receiver and in the end I just got frustrated and gave up. I'm really pleased I did as I exchanged it for this receiver and saved nearly $200. Although I'm sure the Denon had more features I couldn't be happier with this Insignia receiver.Set up was an absolute breeze, the instructions were easy to follow and I completed the hook-up using HDMI cables in around 30 minutes. The sound is outstanding and exceeded my expectations. If all you want is a receiver that is easy to understand and gives a great home theater experience for a great price - give this one a try, you won't be disappointed!

What's great about it: Onkyo brand behind the scenes
What's not so great: Audio settings interface is confusing
THE PURCHASE:
I bought this receiver at best buy open box and got it 60 dollars cheaper so that was a good start. Small crack in the plastic on the side of the face but not noticeable at all unless you inspect it close up so it was a flaw I could deal with. All of the stuff for it was included and nothing was missing so I picked it up. I am always looking for the open box deals where you get the item for even cheaper than Internet (even after tax)
CONFIGURATION:
I bought the Polk Audio RM 6750 5.1-CH home theater speaker set to use with the amp and it works great. The entire setup was just over 300 dollars and definitely beats most "theater in a box" prices by several hundred dollars. The Insignia theater in a box speakers are much lower quality than the Polk Audio so getting them separate was cheaper and better quality!
PROS:
I did some research before the purchase and found out that "Insignia" is an Onkyo brand. I have always liked Onkyo and made me feel better about this somewhat "no name" brand.
As far as using it, general use is fairly easy. Switching inputs can be easily done from the buttons on the front or on the remote with dedicated buttons for each selection.
The sound is excellent and if you have a small apartment it will blow you away and give you way more power than you will ever need for a small room! Movies are great and the DTS Theater decoding works well enough to significantly notice it when playing Blue Ray movies. This baby will keep you watching movies at home and question going to the local theater!
CONS:
The confusing part comes when trying to change the audio settings using the face of the unit or the remote. The sound fields are the DSP effects that are referred to as "listening modes". Awkward interface to this feature leaves me wondering why they didn't make it a 1 button interface which would make the most sense to me. I will continue to play with it and eventually get use to it.
CONCLUSION:
Overall, I don't think that this unit can be beat for the price. I have looked at many other receivers on the market and this one is very competitive for the features so I would say it's worth the purchase even for full retail price.
