What's great about it: Everything!
What's not so great: Research your choice in lenses (stick Minolta if possible)
I've been a hobbyist for a while, and finally went back to school to start a photography career, I'll be mainly weddings, portraits, and of course a few prints of my choosing here and there. I've had a few cameras then found a niche with my A100 and Minolta lenses, That camera lasted me up until now since I'm about to graduate. If you knew how to work it, that camera was raw power in your hands regardless of it being "obsolete", but after finally upgrading to full frame sensor, and from 10mp to 24mp 16bit, there is no comparison in its price range and even for a while above. I don't need or want HD video, I have a video camera for that, LiveView is for point and shoots, the pop-up flash was always a waste in my opinion and to have that AMAZING viewfinder that you fall into is more than a fair tradeoff for anyone. The only things this camera lacks are things a pro doesn't want. It is pure gold in your hands. I have not one complaint about this camera body. My only issue I have run across is with the one lens that I chose Sony over Minolta because of equal quality comparison to its Minolta equivalent, and it was so much cheaper (the sal85mm2.8). Since it has the manual/ auto focus switch on the lens, the auto focus to manual bypass button by your right thumb will not override this lens. I'll end up upgrading to the Minolta 85mm 1.4 soon, this Sony lens' quality is surprising, but I just need full functionality. So just be aware of this in your lens choosing, Go Minolta or Zeiss. And if your into macro work, even a little, pick up the Minolta 100mm macro and a 2x converter (cause you know you'll never find that elusive 200mm macro for under $4k) the clarity is unbeatable with this body and lens combo.

What's great about it: Colors, Dynamic Range, Full Frame
What's not so great: AF tracking for objects heading at or away from you
I upgraded to the A900 from the A700 and I am blown away! The A700 was an amazing camera but this one is just amazing! It stands to reason that it would be though. It has a Full Frame sensor in it whereas the A700 has an APS-C sized sensor. The files can be rather large but it allows you some extra room to crop down and still have very nice detailed shots. I would not trade this camera for any of the other current Sony models available as of writing this review. If you are an old Minolta shooter or a newer Sony one such as myself you will definitely be pleased with this camera. In case you did not know one of the great benefits of the Sony DSLRs is that you can use the old Minolta autofocus lenses with them. There is some very nice glass out there that can be had for very reasonable prices.
It does not have video but how much video are you going to shoot with a camera like this? I could care less about video.
AF performance is not the best but I am able to get some great shots when shooting action from the sidelines at high school football games. If you are using it for still life shots then you will have not troubles with AF performance!
The camera body is well built, sturdy and feels good in my hands. It is not lightweight though. Match it with some good glass and you will get some nice results.

What's great about it: Image quality, noise performance, handling
What's not so great: Lack of live view, lagging dynamic range and color accuracy scores
There are several impressive specs, including maximum 5 frame per second burst shooting at full resolution and an excellent optical viewfinder that covers essentially 100% of the scene at hand. It’s tough to find a breakthrough feature or performance advantage that justifies selecting the A900 over the Canon 5D Mark II, though. The Canon offers 1080p video recording that rivals the quality of dedicated high-definition camcorders, while the Sony doesn’t even have a Live View mode. In our lab testing, the A900 received a higher overall resolution score, and shoots at a higher burst rate, but color accuracy was seriously lacking, and dynamic range can’t compete with the league-leading Canon. As for the other full-frame camera in this price/performance class, the Nikon D700, the camera’s 12.1-megapixel resolution doesn’t match the competition, and while it broke new ground in image noise when it was released last year, the Sony and Canon are now only slightly less adept in this area.
