I purchased this Onkyo unit after running into trouble with a Denon AVR1612 (the Audyssey system said it couldn't detect the speakers or mic#. When I used the Audyssey set up on the Onkyo unit it detected some of the speakers but not all which made it very easy to troubleshoot the issue. The sound is great and the Onkyo bundled remote worked with my Dish DVR and LG 3d TV & Blu Ray player #the Denon remote did not detect any of the devices).
This product has... Plenty of power for all my needs, Easy to use controls
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Network, Ipod capabilities
I'm very pleased with this receiver. It sounds great after you run the Audyssey Auto Speaker Setup. I have it connected to my Bose Acoustimass 10 Series IV 5.1 Speaker System and I love the sound. It has great channel separation. It has a USB port in the front for IPOD and futures software updates. I really like the internet radio capabilities, I listen to Sirius Internet Radio and Vtuner alot. I also like the new looks of the Onkyo Receivers. I would highly recommend 509 to people.

What's great about it: Best sound for the money when using digital audio inputs
What's not so great: Don't expect good results with HDMI switching.
First things first. DO NOT Purchase this for the HDMI inputs and pass through. They DO NOT work well. This unit does have 4 digital audio inputs, 2 coaxial and 2 optical. This setup works better for me than an HDMI solution.
I have a Bose Acoustimass 10 series 4, 5.1 speaker setup and have not found a good plastic surgeon to get the smile off my face with the Onkyo combination. My 20 X 25 living room is full of rich sound from movies and music.
AGAIN be warned about the HDMI switching and video out problems in this unit. I tried to use an HDMI setup from my Panasonic 201 blu ray to the Onkyo 509 and out to my Panasonic S1 plasma. It flickered and gave a poor picture. Maybe my HDMI cables are not good enough maybe my TV is too old. But for whatever reason HDMI switching did not work well for me.
