What's great about it: Video processing, audio options, auto calibration, wireless connectivity
What's not so great: remote, typical dense user manual
Loads of features, stellar video processing, and rich audio make this a mid-priced winner. I've seen a few really negative reviews on this unit, but IMO some have just gotten lemons and others are nit-picking about some feature that doesn't suit them exactly. I tweaked the audio, mainly EQ settings on each speaker, after the full auto calibration, to suit my taste for a more bass-heavy mix. In my case the auto calibration made the mix sound a little too high endy for me. The video processing is very good, makes my 60" LG plasma seem almost like a movie screen. I did pay full retail for this, mainly with gift cards so I didn't mind, but I have seen this unit for less and I don't think you can go wrong at this price point. I had a unit with no HDMI and so had to string HDMI directly to the TV and separate digital audio to the receiver, so the full HDMI capacity of this unit was a vast improvement. I've used JVC receivers for years and while a good deal for the money, I never thought the audio was the best and have had some channel amplification go down in a couple of units. I had Pioneer many, many years ago and after reading some of the more positive reviews (the majority are positive) on this unit decided to go back to them. I have not been disappointed. The iPod, Bluetooth, and LAN capabilities are a great addition to this receiver and I expect this to become the center of a multi source media hub that I really did not have the ability to have before. Some have complained about the remote and I think very few OEM remotes are what you would call great, so you just have to get to know it or go with an aftermarket universal unit. Some have complained about the power cord not fitting, mine fit perfectly. I expect to have to spend more time to fully utilize the features of this unit but was able to get it set up and use it within about 3 hours of unpacking, including cable box, PS 3(BD and game viewed), wired iPod, and DVD. This included calibration, tweaking, and hooking up a parallel speaker system using the preamps outs feeding a 7 channel Adcom amp. This is the nerve center for a dedicated HT room so the wireless networking (with an aftermarket wireless adapter) is a nice feature to allow streaming content from my desktop, iPod, etc. that may not be in the same room. All-in-all I am very satisfied with this receiver and would recommend it highly.
This product has... Plenty of power for all my needs, Interfaces well with TV, Easy to use controls, pre-amp outs, great video processing, auto set-up needs tweaking
