What a great laptop indeed. It was a bit pricy for my taste but very well worth it in the end. Fast, efficient, and all of the above. I'm not much of a gamer, I must admit but even with that being said, this laptop really surpassed my expectations. I've read reviews about what people think of Alienware and how you can build it for a quarter of the price but lets face the facts here: If your a pro at building computers and someone who has tons of time on their hands then good for you. But if your someone like me,even if I went on google and youtube to search up on how to build one, there would still be a huge portion of things I wouldn't get that I do with this laptop.
Im the type of person, that when I buy something, I make sure it's the best of the best. I wanted to get the M14x with the i7 core but sadly, its been sold out for quite some time now, Hence me purchasing this.
Pro's:
*It's different compared any other brands out there
*Fully customizable software sytem
*Brightly lighted keyboard, and fully customizable, you can get a specific section of the laptop to pulse, change from one color to the other, or just have a solid color of your choice.
*Buttons are well padded, typing and everything else is pretty quiet (at least to what I was use too with my old Toshiba brand laptop
*Charging port is in the back, therefore the cable doesn't get in the way.
*Resolution is really good, watching movies and playing games is above and beyond outstanding.
*Battery: Depending on how much you'll do with it. I charged it at 100% and I played Starcraft 2, watched movies for 9 hours in total before it began to notify me that the battery was at 5%. Also, to add on to this note, I had set the battery preference to Eco and not Performance so that was a major factor.
*Name plate: it still comes with a steel name plate and written on it is M14x. No, Alienware is not allowing customers to purchase and customize a nother name plate. I've asked hundreds of times and that was the answer I got, a big fat NO. They did at one point and just recently stopped, for reasons unknown. Now if your like me, go to your nearest hardware store, purchase a engraver and do it yourself, just make sure you googled the lettering of what Alienware used and try your best to mimic it.
Con's:
*The fan is located at the bottom of the laptop, plus with how many lights are stored in this thing, it really needs two fans. So this laptop overheats quite easily. Make sure you buy one of those laptop cooling pads, you'll need it.
*Battery life, like I said previously, depending on what you do with the laptop makes a great difference. This laptop wasnt initially made to save power, it's ment for Maximum Performance and as such, if chosen on the battery setting, won't get you very far before the laptop starts begging for a recharge.
And that conclude's my review. I hope it helps to all of those out there looking into purchasing this laptop. Happy hunting.

What's great about it: This kind of performance for a 14 inch laptop is the best part of the package.
What's not so great: Glossy screen can sometimes be annoying, Runs a little warmer than expected when gaming
You won't hear good things about gaming laptops from most dedicated players these days. You'll hear even worse from those about the Alienware brand (. I have to say though, this specific model caught my eye when I began shopping around. The only competition I had was going after a $1,000 Sager notebook instead (which was admittedly better in terms of specs), but I was looking for a little more in terms of style/flash and love it or hate it, these laptops are a predominant ption for the average consumer.
As a gaming machine, I'm very pleased with it, I've yet to install a title that this laptop is not powerful enough to run at least as high settings and the only ones that seriously stress it are titles such as The Witcher 2 and Metro 2033. The latter runs consistently above 40FPS on high settings and the former has more to do with the optimization of the game itself (of which the onus falls more with the developers).
If you're not a high-demanding PC gamer, the i5 will pretty much play just the same as an i7 processor (as very few games are even utilizing quad-cores yet to justify the purchase). The bigger problem with this particular model is that the 555m GPU will easily age much faster than the computer's processor. It's no doubt a great performing mid-range card, but it's a only a moderate-at-best (or low-quality depending on your standards) high-end one.
Other than those particulars, the only other things I would warn other customers about is the noise level and the heat. Make sure you purchase yourself a cooling pad (ESPECIALLY if you do a lot of gaming) to aid the laptop in maintaining a proper temperature or else the heat will eventually (and quickly) reach problem levels. The noise level doesn't personally bother me because I usually have headphones on while playing (and that's the only time the fans really kick-up anyway), so make of that potential issue what you will.
In the end, this laptop has been well worth the purchase and I'd recommend it to anyone who is willing to spend $1,100 - $1,300 for the machine.
