What's great about it: Good campaign storyline
What's not so great: Unbalanced multiplayer mechanics
Note that my review focuses mostly on the multiplayer aspect of Halo 4. In terms of campaign, the game is very solid, with a great storyline, ideal length, challenging, and overall variable campaign gameplay.
The mulitplayer at launch was a radical departure from the traditional Halo series, with both announced and unannounced changes to the Halo experience. Previous Halo multiplayer titles appealed to both the casual and hardcore gamers with balanced mechanics and a proper matchmaking system.
Going into full details on the mechanics would be the equivalent of an essay, but in short, the changes did not appeal to new players while at the same time disappointing the long-time Halo fans. The MP population at launch was around 400k, and in less than six months, dropped to below 35k peak.
While the game has been updated with DLC and balance changes, the game still has balance issues today, but is more playable now than at launch. Had I known this, I would have saved my money and bought it now.

What's great about it: Fun, great graphics
Fun game, great multiplayer, I am not a big gamer, but I had a great time playing this game. There was one level of flying an aircraft thing that I found kind of annoying because I kept crashing, but the other levels are fun and its cool to mix things up and keep things interesting.

What's great about it: Diverse weapons to choose from
What's not so great: Campaign mode was a little on the short side
This was my first foray into the Halo franchise. The game certainly lived up to its hype. I haven't been able to put this down. The game combines a great mix of guns and weapons and game play. The game definitely earns it's M rating due to its violence. My only slight grumble is that the campaign was too short

Although I normally enjoy first person shooters I did not find this one interesting at all. Halo 4 is simply to unrealistic for me to find enjoyment in it. if I was about twelve years old I probably would think different. This game just seems geared for the younger generation.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: mp and story are great
What's not so great: mp can lack excitement at times
I enjoyed the first two Halo games for the original xbox however the rest of the games have been disappointing. However, with this game, it feels great again. The story isn't too long but not short so you get value with the sp. Also, the mp can be exciting too as I enjoy the sniping and being able to use vehicles during the game. However, the mp can feel slow and lack excitement at times. Some of the maps are also a bit bland and stale.

Great game, similar to the previous games in the Halo feel. However 314 Industries took the game alot further story wise than Bungie and also 314 has been supporting there multi-player more.

Picked this up - haven't played a single version of Halo to date. Wow, this is a great story and out right shooter. Some games you can play with pre-teens - not this one. Just too much violence.

It's a good first attempt by 343 at its first real entry in the halo universe. Story is excellent, but the multiplayer options are starting to mirror call of duty which is a turnoff for me. The story is worth it though

What's not so great: Story needs supplemental resources.
A different team, a different Halo. The game has superb controls, and a large sandbox of weapons to tackle the enemy. The story is advanced in a different direction, but elements are hidden. For everything to be understood a lot of outside material is needed. Cooperative play is offered and a full suite of multiplayer modes that constantly evolve.

If you have ever enjoyed playing a Halo game online then this is the one you need to own! Halo 4 is the best Online Multiplayer game you can get... The matchmaking is great and always puts in a competetive game, it does well to keep the hardcore expert gamers and the casual gamers in seperate games so you never feel like there is no chance for you to do well... The modes are great, level layouts are terrific and controls have been perfected!
the story mode was boring to me, but, personally, all halo games have boring singleplayer....
if you want to play a FPS online against friends and randoms, get halo 4!

What's great about it: It's Halo. 4 player coop campaign is fun.
What's not so great: Multiplayer gets stale.
Played all Halos. Pick them up at launch every time. Like the last few previous Halos, playing campaign mode w/ 4 players is a blast. Multiplayer is pretty good. Finally added a create a class option like COD. Love using the vehicles. Multiplayer got stale though. All my friends and family played this in the 1st month but then got bored. Not enough wow factor compared to 3 or Reach. Seemed people voted the same 2 maps over and over. If it's a map you don't like, you can't even leave the lobby like COD or BF. Not enough new weapons. Still annoying if the someone can have a shotgun or sniper rifle (from random pick up) and you don't. Still don't like the hud as your enemy always knows you're coming. That's why I play bigger maps since it doesn't really matter. Overall, still a great game whether campaign or multiplayer. Just got bored. Multiplayer is dying so I go back to Black Ops 2 where there's 250.000 people playing on weekends.

Great follow-up from Bungie's game series! 343 Studios knocks it out of the park. You don't need to add much to the tried-and-true first-person shooter formula of the other Halo games, but they manage to add some additional weapons and vehicles that add a dimension to the story mode and some extra challenge in the online multiplayer. Definitely play with a friend!
