What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Construction
This junk constrution is horid.
so I unlock the safe with the key that is given program my fingers and could not figure out how to lock it. so i decide something must be something wrong with the lock, so i open it up via the 3 screws in the back and find the cilinoid is just sitting under the locking mech so i push it back up and tighten the screws well the screws are too small for the holes so wont tightien. waste of $100 bucks as i had already thrown away the box .item is made form cheap metal and plastic

What's great about it: Solid, reliable, great value.
What's not so great: Instructions, only 4 number keys
I'd been looking at the more expensive Barska biometric safe to keep my pistol out of reach of my 6 year old daughter when I came across the Stack-On biometric. I'd previously considered the keypad version of the Stack On but really wanted the fingerprint recognition feature.
What's great about this safe is that it not only has the biometric key but it also has a keycode and a physical key too - 3 ways to get in. In all honesty, I could do without all three methods and the keycode only has 4 numbers to make up the 4-8 digit code. This means it's likely you can't use a familiar number as you only get 1, 2, 3 & 4 to choose from. I'm assuming there is some kind of lockout feature on multiple incorrect keypad entries but the single instruction sheet doesn't go into that much detail. I'd hate to think my little girl could just tap away until the safe finally unlocked.
However, the fingerprint recognition feature is fairly competent. You can store upto 32 fingerprints, any of which will crack open the lock. I used 5 slots for my primary access finger and then 1 for each of my other fingers and thumbs making a total of 14 slots used with 18 remaining. Unfortunately, you don't get to choose the slot so once the memory bank is full I'm not sure what happens. Does it overwrite from first fingerprint when you hit 33...? Other than that, the recognition was near faultless if you follow a few basic rules. Finger placement doesn't require that you be spot-on each time but if you can be consistent then the safe will open every time. Initially, I was getting maybe 1 failure to open in 10 attempts due to bad finger placement but in the last few weeks I can't recall a single failure. At this price, I think it is more than acceptable. The more expensive Barska has reviews with similar success rates.
There are 2 nice big lock bolts that keep the door locked and I doubt that you could prise the door open without some heavy duty hardware. I expect you'd have more luck attacking the hinge. And again, at this price, I don't think the safe was designed to resist a sustained determined attack anyway. What's important to me is that my kids and any of their friends have zero chance of accessing my pistol.
And finally, Best Buy had the best price on this safe by $20 or more over any other supplier I could find online.
I would recommend this to a friend!
