What's great about it: Easy to setup, stronger than previous routers (NETGEAR)
What's not so great: Sits horizontally, status light is VERY bright
The AirPort Extreme was very easy to setup - very intuitive. Has nice options to choose from when setting it up. I have had problems with my NETGEAR covering my entire home and also loosing connectivity. I have not had one problem with the AirPort Extreme since purchasing it. I put it on the top shelf in my closet...the status light works great for a little green night light!

What's great about it: Easy to plug in, works with a MAC very well
What's not so great: Doesn't have the standard 4 ports only 3. No DYNDNS support
This product is very easy to install. I'm not so sure it's almost $200 price tag is worth it. There is no place to put in a Dynamic DNS which is kinda bad for some of us who want to use it that way. Also, every other manufacturer puts in 4 network ports on the back. Some of us use 4 ports. Like a game system, A Computer, a NAS drive, and a printer. That's 4. I'm out of luck or stuck buying another switch which adds to the overall price.

This is a great router that allows our devices to be used all around the house.. including the family room in the basement at the opposite end of the house, and outside on the patio. Speed is very very fast too..

What's not so great: the price is more than most - but worth it!
the support from Apple is much better than the rest - I always get an American when calling Tech Support! and believe me - it worth the extra in the initial cost! setup was EASY!

What's great about it: Low profile, simple to hook up
What's not so great: Price when compared to other motems.
Easy to use and quick set-up. I'm not a techy person, so to be able to plug everything in and follow the prompts that pop up was perfect for me! Was more expensive than many of the other modems out there, but I trust the apple quality.

What's not so great: A little pricey.
I'm replacing Linksys E3000 routers with the Airport Extreme...the difference was night and day. The Airport works great with the 7 iOS devices in the house, as well as the 4 laptops, slingbox, internet TVs, and networked DVD players.

What's great about it: Clean look and not all the lights the drive gf crazy.
What's not so great: Only three ports. More is better.
I too was in BestBuy looking for the Netgear N+ router due to my apartment being built like a tank. I had a few routers that would send out a great signal but, travel ten feet in my place and the signal is darn near gone.
I was told by BB employee that the Extreme was the best and would work for me. Not so. I had to get the Airport express to send the signal deeper in to my apartment, that has lath, horse hair plaster covered new wall board. Yes not signal friendly. I set up the Extreme on my daughters Windows XP professional with zero issues. I did noticed that my video stream from Netflix via Bluray was much quicker and Xbox 360 was also better using the cat cable along with Direct Tv box.
I was told by BB employee that the Extreme was the best and would work for me. Not so. What's great about it: Strong signal, great performance
What's not so great: Hangs/Crashes whenever my wife's new laptop connects to it, and at random moments.
I bought the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) in hopes that a premium home wifi router would have fewer problems than series of cheaper (but still name brand) routers I had been using. But as with the cheaper routers, the AEBS behaved much the same as the other routers in that at times Wifi would just stop working, and occasionally the router would stop responding even to a wired connection. Both problems require a hard reboot (e.g. pulling the power plug) to restore service.
In between reboots it runs like the wind, with a much stronger signal in remote corners of my home than any of the cheaper routers had.
But, we recently acquired an HP laptop running windows 7, and as soon as it turns on and connects the AEBS will become completely unresponsive and so I've had to revert to using the older Cisco router until I can figure out a way to get the two to play nicely together.
I also dislike in extreme the fact that the AEBS can only be configured via a configuration program run on the client - would much prefer a web (or even telnet) based configuration program like every other home router I've ever used has.

What's great about it: Reliable, fast, easy to configure, built like a tank
I looked at this WiFi router a couple years ago when I had to replace my 5-year-old Linksys, but I couldn't justify the expense. But when my replacement Linksys failed after just a year and a half, I decided to spend the extra money. My replacement Linksys had cost me about $80, and I figured if I was going to have to buy a new one every year or two, it made as much sense to get a decent router that would last longer.
Of course, I haven't owned this one long enough to know what its long-term durability will be, but if you own an Apple product that has AppleCare coverage, this router will automatically be covered for as long as the AppleCare coverage lasts. I have a MacBook Pro with another couple years of AppleCare coverage, so the router is covered for that long. The router's basic warranty is 90 days phone support and one year hardware coverage.
The first thing I noticed about the router is that it's built like a tank, in a good way. It weighs a lot more than my Linksys, which was a light-weight piece of plastic, and like most Apple products, it has a good look and feel. Connection was relatively easy, though I did have to call Apple support because I messed up one of the settings (the instructions for set-up were not quite as clear as on most Apple products). Apple support returned my call almost immediately, and the tech rep was very helpful and took care of the problem quickly.
I have my laptop connected via both ethernet and WiFi, since the laptop normally stays in one place and the ethernet connection is faster than WiFi. The WiFi connection is for my iPhone, iPad, Blu-Ray player, and Apple TV, and it's much faster and more stable than the Linksys router.
Since buying this router, I have not had to re-set my WiFi connection at all, which is something I had to do on a regular basis with the Linksys. I'm very pleased with this router and I feel it's well worth the extra cost.

Setup was a snap. Most of those pesky (and completely unnecessary to most mortals) technical details! Unlike other common wireless routers, it defaults to secured setup. Like its other products, Apple is awful proud of this so you won't get it cheap.
Have had it a month so can't comment on reliability, but so far it's been perfect.

Whether you're using Windows or Mac OS X, this gives advanced security, very fast throughput, and is great for a home network. This is not a cheap and easy router to use, but if you want the best, and are willing to take the time to set things up correctly, you will get more than what you purchased.

I found this product to be far superior to any other wireless routers that I have purchased. I previously stayed away from Apple's Airport because I thought it was for Mac computers only. It works extremely well with all my computers and wireless equipment (i.e. Printers, Apple TV, iPad, Dell PC, PS3, etc...) I love the fact that it has only 1 light. Who needs those other lights (most people don't even know what they are for). It is either working or not working. Setup was a breeze. The interface to the router software is very intuitive. Easy to setup encryption and anything else you may want to tweak.
