What's great about it: returned it
What's not so great: didn't get a refund
I, too, was unaware of the requirement to pay $15/month to be able to play this game. I'm no techie, just a dad trying to help his son enjoy a new video game. After 3 hours of loading, reloading, attempting to play and then conversing with tech support, the truth was finally revealed. My son is in no position to pay the subscription and his disappointment was palpable. Best Buy declined the refund, even though it was only a week after purchase. so now he is out $60 of hard earned money. If you check the cover of the box there is a statement is ever so fine print, but even the wording is too cryptic for the average joe. Clearly worded by attorneys with the intent to deceive.

What's great about it: great story
What's not so great: no replayability, very linear questing, too similar to WoW, lots of bugs, poor customer, and very low server populations
I loved the game the first time I played a character to 50 the story was fun and exciting, but once I got to 50 I ran out of things to do very fast. I rerolled on a different server, because the population on mine was insanely low, and had fun leveling again and was bored once again after I hit 50. The questing is very linear and offers no real choice in what to do or when to do it; the content is also almost all the same with the exception of your class stories. Once I made a few characters i was quickly bored and ran out of things to do. I came from WoW because that game got boring and was suprised, because EA/Bioware promised something new and exciting, to see a very generic game that looked a lot like WoW. While I love Star Wars and wanted to play this game for years, and finally get away from WoW, I think I'll check back in a year and see if some of its major problems are addressed. If you like Star Wars give it a shot they have free trials see if the game is right for you; but be aware it plays more like a single player RPG than an MMORPG.

What's great about it: Everything.
What's not so great: Feels a little bit too much like WoW sometimes.
If you remotely like Star Wars, you need to get this game. I was on the fence for awhile, but once I played it, I was hooked. My only complaint, which is more like a comment, is that it feels like WoW a lot of the time.
Seriously, if you like Star Wars or Bioware games, this one does not disappoint.

What's great about it: Story line, graphics, game play
What's not so great: Doesn't give a foot massage as you play. LOL, nothing!
I purchased this game two days ago and have found it to be a fantastic game. I am a long time MMO player with experience with WoW, Guildwars and City of Heroes. The questing experience is far better then any of these other games as the game really gets you involved in the story line. I have started two characters and have found the story line and questing very different between the two classes, it compels me to play all the characters.
Before I decided to purchase this game I decided to read others reviews. It really bothers me to find that most if not all of the low reviews are based on the game having a monthly fee or the customer's machine isn't capable of running the game well. How a person can rate the quality of the game based on their lack of research into the games requirements is beyond me. And the fact that most MMOs require a monthly fee I think would compel most people to check into this before buying the game. I encourage those looking into this game to disregard reviews that aren't based on the game's quality and instead are based on features they should have known about before buying the game.

What's not so great: subscription needed, busy servers, game times out
my son loves star wars and was eager to have this game, we bought it only to find out that u need a subscription in order to play the game ($15 a month). There is a 30 day trial period, so allowed him to try it (after checking it out for myself online.) He played for a couple of weeks and decided that his computer is not powerful enough to play this game. Though I am within my 30 day trial period, I am a week late on best buy's policy of 30 day returns. Now I'm stuck w/ a game that we can't play! These games need to be advertised as subscription only games. And best buy should know when to bend their rules for their customers.
This product has... additional cost for a subscription needed to play

What's not so great: Mandatory online signup and fee
Bought the game for ~$50 because reviews say there is single player option but can't even start game without giving credit card number online and paying another $15 a month online charge. Ridiculous!

What's great about it: Storyline
I've been playing for around 3 months now and it's an enjoyable game. It's not as complex or sandbox as EVE Online, but it has a good story and content to keep you busy for awhile. As with any MMORG the grinding can get tedious, but only after your third or fourth character on one faction side. Bioware and EA are promising to continue supporting and developing the game so the investment should payoff for subscribers.

What's great about it: Great story lines and overall gameplay
What's not so great: A few minor glitches
Over the past couple years I've been searching for/waiting for the next MMO that I would love. It seems I finally found it. I understand not everyone will love this game, but I do for a couple reasons. First, the interface is pretty intuitive (not that hard to accomplish, but when it's good it's good, and when it's bad, it's terrible). Second is the mechanics of the quests. Quest info is very helpful and keeps questing from becoming frustrating, unless you are of extremely low intelligence. Last few things to mention are that the graphics are great, but the story lines are the real gems of this game, in my opinion. Each class has their own one and it plays out like the script to a movie. The stories will capture your attention and keep you wanting to get to the next step. The companion (pet/minion) system is great as is the crafting/profession system.
All that said, the game is not without imperfections and minor glitches...but they are really easy for me to overlook when considering the wide wide array of things that are done right in this game. I'd recommend it to anyone who like the RPG and MMORPG genre.

Somewhere it should be advertised that once you pay for the game, you need to drop another $14 bucks a month to be able to actually play it. It took 3 PC's in my house to find one that it would install on, then once I went through all the resgistration then it tells me I have to pay the $14 bucks a month to play the game. I took the game back, at least Best Buy was cool about returning it. We'll just stick to XBOX from now on.

What's great about it: Well written stories, player choices can impact NPC's, non-grindy feel to standard mission/questing
What's not so great: Still hung up on the 'holy trinity' of grouping, some bugs still, customization of characters and UI weaker
If you're a player who enjoys story driven MMO's, then this game is very fun to play. The story writing is very well done, and there is replay value with alt's, as different classes can have different story missions and/or objectives. That being said, if you're a hard core FPS or PVP'er, the game is probably not for you.
While the game still needs some polish, for a new release it was one of the better ones that I can remember in the past 10 years. However there are some areas the game could improve upon.
Pro's:
- Very well done stories for the missions
- Additional objectives ("kill x") are masked and addressed differently for much less of a "grind" feel to them. Many are easily done by following the story mission
- Differences between the classes between Republic and Imperial sides to make them interesting, but not being entirely different. They are "similar" but not identical.
- Use of companion pets are a nice touch and helpful for both crafting and combat situations.
- Voice acting is very well done (for the most part) and makes the NPC interactions very entertaining
- Flowing player progression, as the player is exploring new planets and new area's regularly, and not stuck in one area for a long time.
Con's:
- The ship combat system is fun for a casual player, but it would be nice for grouped ship combat to be designed,
- More flexibility in the UI customization options would be nice
- As the ship functions also as "player housing", more interior customization would be nice.
- Crafting system doesn't appear to have been designed for longevity. Very few skill sets product consumables, and there is no cross-crafting dependencies
- There still seems to be a memory leak that pops up at times, but it is no where near as bad as launch.
- Appearance is based on gear the player is wearing, no appearance options
Overall, its a fun game for the more casual players. I think the hard core crowd may be disappointed. The average, casual player can progress with just drops and following the story lines. It is quite easy to lose track of time with some of the more interesting stories and missions.

What's not so great: You need a medium to high grade PC to really experience everything.
I am not too new to MMORPG's. I've played mostly City of Heroes, but this is the most fun I've had in quite a long time. The content is very well planned out. The game is epic in scale.

What's great about it: It is Star Wars
What's not so great: Bugs, fast levels with not much to do end game unless you like PvP, and much more
The short: IMHO, unless you have a deep luv for Star Wars and want to play for the stories, I'd skip this game as it is almost as bad a DC Universe Online.
I've already un-sub'd. I had a max toon in the first month. Yeah I played every day, and I didn't listen to some boring side quest VOs toward the end, but I wasn't rushing, most casual players will prob take 2 months. Then what?
There's actually more content then there are levels so a lot of it is wasted. Then there's a lot of bugs, most are annoying except for the UI issues. There's horrible PvP imbalance issues btwn Rebels and
Imps. And the space combat, WTH? There's almost nothing to do at end game unless you want pvp or you can manage to find PUGs for the dungeons, but there are never enough healers. I could go on.... but why.

Okay for one, this game is absolutely amazing and has blown me away since day 1, unlike WoW. Of course people are gonna compare it to WoW, its the largest played MMO, but it is not the same game and I hate people who say it is. Of course ita gonna be somewhat the same because WoW HAD good ideas, but its ended since the release of wotlk and cata killed it. This game has made me love leveling, i can't even get off this dang game. This game IS going to wipe WoW from history. Im also tired of people saying this game is broken and WoW is sooo much better. Well lets see, its been released for 2 months and its amazing. Of course its gonna have problems. Blizzard had 7 years on this game to fix glitches. Give it time. This game is amazing and is worth every pennie. Last question, would you rather run around with a lightsaber or dual guns, or run around as a stupid panda karate chopping everything? HA!!

If you don't want to have your credit card number in another database that might get hacked, you have to buy a swtor time card before it will let you play your free 30 days. After registering you get the message
"You have 29 days of play time remaining. You must sign up for a recurring subscription plan or redeem a Game Time Code before you can play. If you sign up for a recurring subscription, you will be billed automatically at the end of your current remaining play time."
Can you believe this? I have 29 days of play time and I must redeem a Game Time Card now!

Right now the game is pretty fun...a little on the short side as far as content goes but it will get better as more patches come out...if your a hardcore gamer maybe wait a little longer for more content to come out but if your a a casuel gamer go ahead and take the leap...the storylines are interesting enough for every class to keep you playing...i don't pvp much, but they seem to be heading in the right direction with it

What's great about it: PVE is only good if you play the popular classes
What's not so great: PVP - extremely limited and not balanced at all between the classes. Unresponsive controls.
Most people just play the same classes as the game is horribly balanced and unresponsive controls. Have to press a skill numerous times before it activates at times. DPS is way off between dps classes. Sorc for example can do over 600K damage in a warzone other dps classes cant even break 100K. PVP is extremely limited to 3 warzone (usually just one if the server is not balanced between empire and republic players). No benefit in world pvp other than 1 small little zone once you reach 50. PVE is descent, but if you dont play the better dps classes (Snipers Sorc Maruders for imperial for example) forget about getting groups.
