What's great about it: Excellently runs Windows and other operating systems, all within Apple OS X
What's not so great: Having to reinstall Parallel Tools into Windows when there has been an upgrade
I have an industrial embroidery machine that is driven by Windows-based software, yet the office is a Mac environment. Parallels lets the Macs run the machinery, while designing can be done on the Mac side and avoid the issues we generally find running in a Windows environment. If something goes terribly wrong with a software update or installation, it is a simple matter to revert back to an earlier, stable copy of the virtual machine (VM) file and restart. I no longer worry about someone stupidly opening a file from "Aunt Ethyl", because the fix is just seconds away. Each major update to Parallels has resulted in a noticeable performance increase. A good indication that they are dedicated to improving their product in meaningful ways. My only criticism is when an update has happened, Windows has to reinstall the Parallels tools. It can take long enough to be a productivity dampener. Enough so, that I have to schedule a time more convenient before allowing Parallels to update. I have to keep reminding myself that it is a Windows thing, unlike Mac OSX which generally updates painlessly.

What's great about it: No reboots to run windows, I have both SP and 7 OS available
Haven't had a glitch
While I am not a major PC user, I have several programs that only run on WIndows. It integrates right into my mac and I sometimes forget that I'm even running windows. I found installing and migrating effortless. Not having to reboot into Bootcamp is a real time saver. I'm not a gamer but I found all my productivity software just runs right and seamless in a MacOSX environment. I have recommended it to several new Mac users who have the need to run legacy Windows applications.

What's great about it: Lets you run apps that are not available for Mac's on a Mac!
What's not so great: Can be slow to boot, does need RAM
Great product if you need to access both Windows and Mac programs
I have been a Parallels user for years. Initially I bought it as I needed to run Quicken for Windows as the Mac version of Quicken was , and still is, so poorly designed. Since then I have chosen to add other PC programs that are not available for Mac's. I am pleased with the performance understanding that I am asking my computer to support 2 operating systems running at the same time. I have a Macbook Pro and 8 Meg of RAM

Tax and Business Bookkeeping
I love my Mac computer but I am a CPA and both my tax programs as well as my bookkeeping programs run only on PCs. I have been using Parallels for several years and it works great for the PC programs I need to use. I just updated my operating system on my PC virtual machine and Parallels was extremely helpful in that process. It would have been much more difficult without them.

What's great about it: Easy to use, great price
Don't let your operating system limit your software choices. When you've got Parallels you can do anything! Thinking about IT solutions with an open mind unlocks a world of possibilities. As a University student and IT worker on campus, we deployed Parallels to several computers. While the University had tons of Office licenses for Windows, it had run out of Mac licenses. Instead of purchasing more licenses, we put forth the power of Parallels to keep students productive. Now, working as IT at both a small and medium size business, I recommend it just as often. In the small business atmosphere, there are several electrical engineering software suites that are only designed for Windows. Not an issue with Parallels around! I also work at an insurance software sales/support business full time. We constantly have companies asking to run the software on Mac and instead of telling them no, I say "Yes, with Parallels!" Once I'm back in the current Mac scene, I'll be sure to invest in Parallels to keep Windows handy to me. There's no other way to go.

What's not so great: Could not get Big Fish Games to function under windows 7 on Parallel.
It may work for general windows, I installed Windows 7 on Parallel with little problem. However, the reason I got the two packages ($300) was to run big fish games. That did not work. Removed from the Macbook Pro (Lion) and went native.

What's great about it: Compatibility with just everything out there.
What's not so great: No chocolate covered eclairs...
We use Parallels to access MLS files in our real estate work because of Windows/Explorer concentration by MLS group. We also use Parallels to access the odd windows graphic material (like Publisher) we get that needs to be converted to something we can use in InDesign on the mac side. Parallels is reliable and we can quickly choose whether we want to open XP Pro, Windows 7 or Ubuntu. It is an important part of our workflow.

What's great about it: Windows programs seem to work well, for me, using Windows 7.
What's not so great: Slow getting programs running, on both OS's. When Parallels is open, the CPU runs pretty warm on my Macbook Pro.
Parallels on a Macbook Pro 17"
I've found the software that I use, that run under Windows 7, fully meet my expectations. That includes Office 2003, Quicken 2012, WeatherView 32, AutoSketch 9 and Publisher 2003. The only negative comes at the start of my Parallels sessions, and at the launching of programs. I usually re-boot the Mac prior to starting Parallels, to minimize problems. It takes five to seven minutes, usually, to have Quicken, for example, up and running. For the balance of the session, any new programs that I launch, under either Windows or OS-X (Lion), take quite a while to open and be ready for use, and are sluggish for the first few actions, at that. But once they are opened up, the switching back and forth and the performance under both operating systems seems to be pretty good. It is very important to me to be able to have programs running in the Mac OS environment and the Windows 7 environment at the same time, and Parallels seems to give me that capability.
I do notice that the left side of my laptop stays quite a bit warmer than I like, while Parallels and Windows 7 are running. Once they are closed, it cools down, again.

What's great about it: Mobile access to VMs
What's not so great: Parallels Mobile did not come bundled with it
I loved it from start to the end, there is no such thing as the most impressive feature about Parallels Desktop for Mac v7. Installation process is easy, the options presented in the preliminary process of the VM installation is self explanatory, the Parallels Tools works, and the coherence mode is just awesome!!! It's very rare that I face difficulties, and that's a very good thing. But, on a very rare occasion that I actually do, the online Knowledge Base is a major life saver. It is layed out in plain english, so much that any Hassan, Hussin and Ali can also understand it (really!). Plus, if stuff really hits the fan, Support is there though the Support Tab on Parallels Facebook page, and that my friends, is LEGENDARY!. Perhaps there is one aspect of Parallels Desktop that really impresses me. As Darth Vader would say to Luke,"Impressive... most impressive!", and that is exactly what I would say for Parallels Mobile App. That is just clever engineering I tell you! Imagine the ease of accessing your Mac machines and your Virtual Machines from anywhere on the go, via iPhone or iPad, that is wicked awesome! When I first started computing with Amstrad PCs, I never thought the day would come that the future would be like what it is today, I'm glad Parallels is art of this present future. When people argues which Virtualization software is better... I just have to tell them what I tell you now. Join me, and we can rule this Parallels Universe as ....errrr... you and me!

What's great about it: It does everything I can do with a Windows Machine.
What's not so great: You still have to buy a copy of Windows.
You MUST have this
I have no love for a PC, but I have 3 or 4 applications that will not run on a MAC. Embroidery software that connects to my Sewing Machine via USB is the most important to me. I recently purchased a Tablet which does not have MAC connectivity. Works like a charm in Parallels. When I help others with a PC problem, I can help them in a Windows environment. I am running XP & Windows 7. After 3 years, I finally got rid of my PC hardwre.

What's great about it: runs applications fine.
What's not so great: run programs very slow.
it works perfectly fine. the issue is the is run as a program. so your os is still mac and you open the program to view the windows os. so running any programs in windows will cause it to run slow. its like opening a program within a program. if you are just using parallel windows to run windows applications it will run fine, except for a little slow loading some stuff.
the best way to run windows on your mac is to use "boot camp" a quick search on the apple website and you should have some answers. you can split you harddrive and install windows directly. that way your mac will run windows like a pc and you will still be able to use your mac os. you will need a full version of a windows 7 version though. cant use a upgrade version.

What's great about it: ease of manuevering between Mac and PC platforms
What's not so great: reallly...not anything substantial.
I've been using Parallels 7 for over a month and it has exceeded my expectations. I am currently using ver6 on an iMac with XP Windows with Snow Leopard. Ver6 has worked very well, in fact, faster than my other XP Windows on native PCs. I am using ver7 on a new MacBook Pro with Lion and I am blow away with the conveniences given by Parallels and Lion. I am using XP on the laptop, too. Switching platforms is easily accomplished in a convenient three-fingered swipe on the touch pad (Lion only feature?). On ver6, I have to fiddle with buttons, which isn't bad, but not as convenient. I prefer the Full Screen Mode as opposed to Coherence Mode as it runs faster. On ver7, I haven't tested the speeds in Coherence versus Full Screen. Since it's so easy to swipe from one platform to the next, I don't see the reason to use Coherence, but you may.
I haven't had any issues with software incompatibilities or networking in each platform. Transferring a file from one platform to the other is not convenient, but possible. You'll have to go through a series of folder pathways. If there is a easier way to drop into each platform, I would be appreciative. At this point, I'll use a memory stick to move many files from one platform to the next.
I have two separate external hard drive for back up. One for the mac side and the other for the PC side. It may be redundant, but I've suffered through a disc crash or two.

What's great about it: Virtualization works for most non graphic intense software
What's not so great: Constantly releases new versions which require more $$$
Parallels software works really well but they don't give you free updates ever. They release a new release pretty much every year and want you to upgrade every year at a cost of $49. Make sure Virtual Box the free Vitalization Software from Oracle won't meet your needs before buying this.

Easy to install and set up. You can keep Windows separate or integrate it closely with you Mac. The software is extremely fast. I am running Windows 7, 8 and Linux and it does a great job of running them all. It is the only product that truly supports Lion's new features and, unlike Fusion 4 which is slower on startup and only supports 256MB video, Parallels supports up to 1GbB video. If you want to run a lot of your games without rebooting it's the only real choice!
