What's great about it: Image Quality
What's not so great: Viewfinder
After a year with the Fuji Finepix W3, I decided to upgrade to a camera with higher resolution. The Sony Handycam has great image quality, and is easy to use. The viewfinder is difficult to see when used outside, but the autofocus and auto parallax works well enough that I can just point the camera at the subject and not worry about the image on the viewfinder too much. I'm guessing that the autostereoscopic viewfinder screen is the only small 3D display available to any manufacturer right now since it is the same size as the one on the Fuji camera. Since the 3D file format is a Sony format, it is necessary to use the included Picture Motion Browser software (PMB). This software only works with Windows, but I am able to run it on my iMac using Windows 7 running under VMware Fusion. PMB doesn't work very well as editing software, so I invested $60 in Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum. This program runs slowly under VMWare with my iMac from 2008, but it does work for stitching together clips and doing audio overlays, etc. I expect that Vegas would run a lot faster on a dedicated Windows machine. Overall, I am impressed with the camera and the software.

What's great about it: Amazing 3D effects
What's not so great: Needs Good Lighting to bring out the best 3D picture, the picture is acceptable without the light
First let me start off by saying I have been testing 3D camcorders/Camera as the consumer level for years. Up until recently, have we been able to VIEW these videos via a 3D-BLURAY without editing via PowerProducer etc.
The Sony BDP-S580 with the latest firmware update will play full quality (no downgrading to 24P via Power Producer software).
All you have to do is have a blu ray writer and the latest Sony Picture Motion Browser installed. Of course you need the 3D TV, Glasses and HDMI 1.4a cable.
One thing you NEED this is not an OPTION is a high power LED Camcorder light if you WANT the best picture. Something like best buy sku 2120113. If you can find one with more leds the better. Dont forget the COLD Shoe adapter as this wont fit.
3D is great, zoom is great. Burned BluRay looks same as hooked into the TV. Have yet to try 2D but as this does 60P 2D I am sure I wont be dissapointed.

What's great about it: Easy to take great 3D video
What's not so great: Should use tripod or monopod (true of any 3D)
This was a good buy.
Is it high cinema? No. Is it a marvelously easy, practical, fun and productive way to practice and learn 3D while taking some good to great video? YES.
I have used other 3D consumer and prosumer units and this is by far the best. The colors are very good. The camcorder handles light levels from direct sunlight to near darkness though the 3D effect sometimes "hunts" for proper convergence when the light drops to very low.
The optical steady system takes most of the hand held shake out when using so small a camera. Best to use a tripod, or at least a small monopod when shooting 3D. AND I got triple points at Best Buy which produced a $100 gift card.
Battery life is extremely good.
And the DISPLAY! It's big and it's 3D, no glasses! So you know how if your shot works before you hit Record.
Like all similar 3D units, your shots are best when the main subjects are 5-50 feet from the camera. Too close and the playback is hard on the eyes; too far and the 3D effect is pretty much lost. But in that 5-50 feet range the 3D effect on this camera is very good.
I have used it for Behind The Scenes video on movie sets. It's perfect for showing perspective when depth is an important factor in the shot.
