Turtle Beach Ear Force XP500 Wireless Surround Sound Gaming Headset for Xbox 360

Model: XP500
SKU: 3371141
UPC: 731855021901
As you walk slowly through the dense and damp jungle, you can't see anything around you except darkness. You don't want to switch on your light for fear your position will be given away to the enemy, and you would become a sitting duck. Your rifle is locked and loaded, and your heart is racing — will you be the next man to be taken down in this fight for survival. Just then, you hear the snap of a twig to your right and you stop. You wait a couple seconds and slowly turn to point the barrel of your gun in the direction of the sound. Just as you place your finger on the trigger, you hear another footstep directly in front of you — and the jungle illuminates behind the gunfire. Make sure you hear every footstep, gun reload, taunt and command with the Ear Force XP500 Wireless Surround Sound Gaming Headset for Xbox 360. With 50mm diameter speakers with neodymium magnets and Dolby 5.1/7.1 Surround Sound, this headset immerses you in 360° audio allowing you to hear sound from every direction. Use the Sonic Lens + Sound Field Expander to widen or narrow the sound field in order to center in on specific audio cues like someone sneaking up behind you or the click of the enemy reloading in the distance. Eliminate all sounds and enjoy complete silence with the Sonic Silencers that allow you to remove ambient noise pickup on your mic and get rid of background noise from Xbox LIVE chat. Connect the XBA Bluetooth chat adapter to your Xbox 360 controller to enjoy wireless chat over Xbox LIVE. With dual-pairing Bluetooth wireless chat, you'll be able to command your squad over Xbox LIVE, answer phone calls or listen to streaming music while gaming. Hear the voices of other players through the excitement as the Dynamic Chat Boost automatically increases the chat volume as the game volume gets louder. With unmatched audio quality, sonic control, an arsenal of comfort and convenience features and an Xbox 360-specific design, this headset gives you the competitive advantage you need in the world of online gaming.

What's great about it: Wireless, sound quality
What's not so great: Figuring out all the features takes some time
This is the 4th turtle beach headset I've bought. I have never considered buying another brand. I had a pair of X41's and needed to upgrade. Setting up the equipment out of the box was relatively easy. I have both a 360 and a ps3. Pairing the headset with both consoles took about 5 min. If you have more than one system you want to connect, I suggest plugging them all into your tv then connecting your tv to the transmitter.
After I got everything connected I started to play MW3 with some friends. The sound coming from the headphones was awesome. The little sounds such as footsteps were crisp and clean. I loved my X41's but they aren't even in the same league as this headset. The wireless chat is great. I didn't have any problems with it. I always hated having a cord sitting in my lap when I played.
I've had these things a few days now and I've done so much with them. Not only are they great for online gaming, but I used them for regular tv, netflix, and watching movies on my ps3. The x41's always had to be turned up to the max when I did anything other than online gaming, but the xp500 does it perfectly.
The are very few negative things to say about this headset. I think the obvious one is that they are quite expensive, but in my opinion are absolutely worth it. Upgrading from the X41, these things took a little getting used to. There are alot of buttons and features to play with. It took a few hours to get all the buttons and features down. If you want something simple, this is not for you. The headset is very comfortable, but a little on the heavy side. (The first night I wore them for about 5 hours and didn't have a problem)
Another cool feature is that you can download software that lets you tweak the headset any way you want. Personally, I played around with the software and found it relatively easy to use, but I will not be changing the presets. The presets are very good and I won't be messing with them, but if you want that customized sound you can get it with these headphones.
Overall if your looking to make an investment in a top of the line headset this is the one to get. This headset can do it all!

What's great about it: Great look, Lightwieght, Cordless
What's not so great: Setup is extremely wierd, needs an optical sound board to connect to PC.
I opened the package as soon as I arrived to my location and noticed that it was goingto be a long setup. I went online and researched on how to setup my TB but found out interestng news, it had only been capable of 5.1 and not 7.1. Astounded, I looked at my prevous TB and thought to my self and told my self why not buy the old ones for a cheaper price that works alot better, screw wireless. After fiddling around I was dissapointed at the clarity of the sound and found it to be poor considered to its price and it's older version. I atleast tried to savor it via using it atleast for my PC. I needed to update my sound board to include an optical cable as the PX500 only has an optical cable and USB in order to connect to my PC.
I bought insurance on it ( if you return and item in 30 days insurance is also refunded) and spent nearly 300$ on the total package. That was the last straw and I narrowed it down that these so called new brands are nothing but another way for TB to suck more money out of your wallet.

What's great about it: Very light, Comfortable Fit
What's not so great: Wireless Interference, Crackling, Dropouts
I was looking for a top of the line gaming wireless headset. The Astros were nice but their company doesn't even have a phone number on their website for support or orders. I thought the TB XP500 would be a good solution. After unboxing noticed the headphones looked nice and fit great. Got everything connected and started playing NHL 12, BF3, Forza 4, etc. Noticed intermittent crackling and drop outs right away. I use a linksys E3000 dual band router. Placed the receiver about 8 feet from the router and about 3 feet from the headphones but this did not help. Turned off the router and the crackling got better with less dropouts. Changed router channels. Changed from wideband to 20hz as TB suggested. Took the receiver and head phones in to the computer room and hooked them up to the alienware. No dropouts or crackling in WOW with SB Sound card and router was on the other side of the wall. I can't really move my router as I do not have multiple drops in my apartment so the router has to be with the entertainment center in the living room (xbox, router, etc.). Took these back and picked up the wired DX12 with Surround Sound processor in line. Minus the wires these things are reliable and smooth.
The XP500s fit very nicely but I just don't think they are practical. Turtle Beach states on their website that there is nothing wrong with the headset if it drops or crackles and stated that it is a limitation of the technology. My question to TB is. Why are you selling it at a premium then?

What's great about it: Many many options, gives the gamers a huge advantage, we can hear things we couldn't before.
What's not so great: Takes time to learn all they can do. Directions are not so clear.
We got home after an hour on the road to go buy these head phones. The excitment was quickly over once realizing that we still needed a part to make these work. I called Best Buy & they appoogized because the person who sold us these headphones shoud have told us we'd need a special plug for the X-box we own before these head phones can be used. Another road trip a few days later and finaaly got to see what they can do. :o((( For $300.00+ dollars the $20.00 part should be included!!!!! I'm just saying,,,

What's great about it: Sound amazing, when they work.
What's not so great: Too expensive to have soo many problems
When I first got it set up
The audio would sound great then cut out
and it did it constantly
I went on to the TB website and it mentioned that the USB on the xbox might not put out enough power
so I used a wall usb play from my phone and it fixed the problem.
It sounded beautifully and I was happy for an hour.
The headphones started coming in and out again.
I didn't spend nearly $300 to be constantly fixing them so I took them back.

What's great about it: Sound quality, comfort, looks, connects to your phone
What's not so great: A little beep every few mins comes on. Doesn't last long though
This is my first headset that i've used, and their amazing. They are very comfortable and after awhile you forget their even on your head. The sound quality is excellent and i can't even tell i'm wearing a headset. It feels like i'm listening to an actual surround sound system. The mic is very good it picks up your voice very easily you don't have to yell or even speak that loud either. The presets are nice, being able to change how the speakers work. The only thing that i don't like, which isn't a big deal, is every now and then when you've got your headset connected to your controller it beeps every few mins. Not quite sure what the noise is. Its not terribly annoying but its kind of bothersome, but in no way does it distract you from gaming. Other than that i really can't think of anything that is wrong. The price is a bit steep but if you can shell it out i'd definitely recommend them.

What's great about it: Totally wireless, the sound is AMAZING!!
I love these headsets!! I have the Triton Pro's (which are AMAZING HEADSETS), but the wires kind of get in the way (Triton"s). I got the XP500's because they are totally wireless. For those complaining about the battery life, I just went out and bought some ENERGIZER rechargeable batteries and problem solved. They will burn through the batteries if you are streaming music, playing MW3, AND answering calls with your bluetooth phone...yes, batteries will go quickly. I can have some long gaming sessions before changing batteries, even with all the above mentioned activities. I love the total wireless experience with these headsets and the range is great. The price is a little high, and the Turtle Beach X41 headsets are an amazing alternative as well. I love the multiple sound choices for these headsets, and I have tried them all. You can hear your enemies creeping up behind you and the reload of their weapon. If you enjoy your gaming wirelessly, these are the headsets for you.

What's not so great: Price
I own X31's made by turtle beach. And to be honest....they're great. Currently cost $99 I think. So being I got a couple giftcards for xmas I decided, maybe upgrade. These XP 500's are the best of the best at the highest price...but are they?
Honestly no, its currently $269. Its 100% wireless, 9 different preset modes. Being I play call of duty I was really excited about #7 Louder footsteps. I set it up and started the game, the sound was soooo poor being that it was only focused on one thing footsteps. But you can't even really hear them with all the other backround noises making this preset pointless.
Surround Sound.....no big deal. On my X31's they worked just fine in stereo and being that these are $270 I'm not noticing a major difference. The sound is very clear its like HD picture quality...except sound.
Overall great that there is no talkback cable....but the price is just insane...Im guessing the X41's are just as good as these except $100 cheaper

I bought my xp500's a week ago. I basically bought them to keep from waking my fellow apartment neighbors with my surround sound. the xp500's worked flawlessly with my tv, xbox360, and ps3. just ran a optical cable from the tv to the transmitter and a optical from the transmitter to the surround sound. that way i can mute my surround sound and continue to listen on my headset.. the gaming is fantastic with this headset.. especially on battlefield 3.. plus its awesome that i can answer calls and stream my music from my cell phone while playing.. this product is legit and i recommend it to anyone who can afford it. i absolutely love it

What's great about it: wireless
What's not so great: the price
Let's start with saying I wanted to see what the hype was all about so I decided to pay for the most expensive pair and so I got the xp500. The first pair died on me the second day so I exchange them. I returned the second set not even a week later because I just don't see what the big deal is about them being so expensive. I sat there and tinkered with the presets and after a while I started getting head aches and my ears started to hurt. They weigh your head down and I believe your just paying because they are wireless. I exchanged it for the DX11 and I believe they are better. They are wired, only have 1 preset, they are 5.1/7.1 surround sound and you can hear everything that's going on, and they are very light weight. I think I'm going to stick with the DX11, oh and they are only $109.00 that's better than $270.00

These have great sound and wireless chat. If you have a wireless router near the base system it may screw up the signal. It does burn through batteries really fast... Especially if your chatting while playing. All in all I'm glad I spent the money. The program that you use to customize the sound could use some improvement.

What's great about it: Crystal clear sound quality
What's not so great: Price is a little steep and sound presets could be better
Purchased the headset specifically to play CoD MW3 on Xbox 360. The setup was extremely easy (10 minutes tops) and the sound quality is absolutely amazing!
Sound Quality: The sound reproduction is so clear that it immerses you into the game. You can hear footsteps, shell casings hitting the floor, and gunfire in the distance with such clarity you feel like you are physically in the game. I find it hard to play with regular TV speakers now! Having separate volume controls for game sounds and Bluetooth Chat is extremely helpful. By default the in-game chat was too loud (for me) and overpowered the game sounds. The separate controls helped me find a perfect balance.
Although the headset is wireless, I hear no static or interference, even with so many other wireless devices in the room. Signal strength is very good and is clear whether playing games or watching TV.
Also, there are 2 ports on the wireless transmitter so I can plug in both my Xbox and TV at the same time. Now I can use it for gaming and watch TV! With this setup, if I am watching TV (with headset) and turn on my Xbox, the Xbox takes precedence. Not sure if this is due to the Optical Cable or not but you don't have to worry that both inputs will feed into the headphones at the same time.
The price is a little hard to ignore, but I am so glad I purchased it. I wish the price was a little lower, but the trade-off is a truly wireless headset and only minimal wires to connect to the Xbox/TV. Add the sound quality and the price becomes justified.
CAUTION for Xbox Wireless Controller battery: Since the XBA Bluetooth adapter connects directly to the wireless controller, I noticed the controller battery life is much shorter now. One charge used to last a good week or more of consistent use but with the XBA attached, I've had to recharge it every other day (about 12-15 hours of game play).
Minor issue with Bluetooth Chat: As another reviewer mentioned, I also have a bit of an issue reconnecting to the Bluetooth wireless chat. This headset allows you to toggle the wireless chat on/off. When I happen to disconnect the chat or turn the Bluetooth power off, I have trouble reconnecting it. I found if I turn off the headset and XBA Bluetooth Adapter, then turn on the Adapter, then headset, the chat connects with no issues. The chat stays connected as long as I don't turn either the XBA adapter or headset off.
NOTE: The headset requires an audio input from the Xbox so if you connect via HDMI cable or don't have a newer 360 with the digital optical port, you will need an adapter. Also be sure to pick up some rechargeable AA batteries.

What's not so great: Price
Saw reviews pointing out issues with the wireless chat over BT. Didn't happen to me yet. Purchased the set last Friday 11/11/11. Used it every day since. Finally I can enjoy perfect surround sound late in night without disrupting my families sleep. I did not used the customization option yet.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Great sound
What's not so great: disconnects a lot!
Bought the headset 2 days ago. Got the new Call of duty game and have only truly used the headset today for maybe 10 hours and blew through the AA batteries that were brand new. It keeps loosing signal from the blue tooth. Makes me really upset at how much I paid for these to be having dumb issues arise.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
