What's great about it: 4 digital tuners, huge hard drive, simple and intuitive screens and remote
What's not so great: A little pricey being the top model
I have been a Tivo user for about 10 years now. I have owned every generation of Tivo box, except the very first series. I currently have three Tivo boxes of various ages and they all talk to each other seamlessly on my home network. This is a great box, with its strongest feature being the 4 tuners. It was rather painful getting this one setup with Charter cable. After installing the cable card myself and talking with a tech on the phone to activate it, it never worked correctly. I would only receive basic channels. Numerous technicians came to my home over two weeks trying everything possible with the box, wiring, etc. Once I asked for the situation to be escalated, a tech came to my house who got everything working in just a few minutes. The cable card "pairing" was the issue. Very simple problem, but one that some Charter techs don't see very often, if at all. Once the cable card and tuning adapter (to support switched digital video) were paired properly, everything works great and I am very happy with this Tivo model. If you have an iPad, you need to load the Tivo app to control the current series of Tivo boxes. Very cool.

What's great about it: EASE OF USE - SPEED OF USE - ALL TERRIFIC
What's not so great: THE PRICE
I would recommend the TIVO Elite. The down side is that it's highly priced at $499. Frankly, that rubbed me the wrong way. However, it is such a pleasure every day to use it instead fo the cable company box I'd been using that it's worth it. I've had a tivo in the bedroom for about 12 years so I knew the system. I had the cable company's box in the living room. They kept "upgrading" their software until it was pretty much unusable, so I switched over to all-tivo. So very glad I did. Getting to things and taking actions regarding your shows is done in so many fewer steps than the other system. The record 4 things at once thing has changed everything - we no longer have to choose - we can record everything we're interested in. The space is enormous - we watch tons of tv and record tons and I think I haven't even used up half the space. The extras are great too - quick and easy access to netflix, amazon video, blockbuster video, hulu, and even youtube.

What's great about it: record 4 channels at one time
What's not so great: Price rduction witin 30 days of purchase
Love the idea of one multi cable card that allows you to record 4 separae channels at the same time.
Withing in 30 days of purchase, TIVO lowered their price by $100.00. Disappointing that Best Buy did not contact me to offer the same!

What's great about it: 4 tuners and lots of memory plus it shows percentage used.
What's not so great: It still costs a lot for lifetime service for any Tivo. The Netfix app is not as nice as on my blu-ray.
This makes my 5th Tivo. Its best feature is the 4 tuners. I used to have to resort to recording on two different Tivos and then transfering on the nights when too many good things were on. My wife or I used to have to go upstairs to watch a program because the Tivo in the family room had two things being recorded and we couldn't watch another channel. Now even if 3 things are being recorded at the same time we can choose to watch something differenrt on the 4th tuner. I also like the improved software for ease of use.

What's great about it: Economical over a 5-year period, Intuitive and easy to use, ability to aggregate and search content
What's not so great: Up front cost, Amazon interface needs update, requirement for a tuning adapter to receive Switched Digital Video content
I've been using TiVo boxes since their introduction as a Series 1 box from Philips in 2000. I can easily recommend the TiVo Premiere Elite as the best TiVo box ever and the best DVR available. It offers a superior DVR experience to users over the generic cable operator provided leased DVR. TiVo has evolved into the ultimate single solution media center by combining its DVR and universal cable box capabilities with the ability to aggregate, search, and deliver millions of pieces of broadband, cable, and broadcast content directly to the television. TiVo recently released a major software update (20.2) to all TiVo Premiere boxes that significantly enhances the user experience. If you factor in the never ending cost of leasing a cable box from your cable operator the TiVo works out to be an economical alternative over a five-year period. I opted for the BestBuy 4-year warrant for $74 just for piece-of-mind on the Elite. TiVo's intuitive functionality and ease of use puts you in control by enabling effortless navigation of linear television, over the top television like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu Plus, radio from Pandora, and web videos from the likes of Revision 3 and the TWIT network. I can't speak highly enough of the TiVo platform which has really evolved to be easily the best DVR on the planet. The only real competition is Windows Media Center from a DVR perspective which is costly and more difficult to set-up. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a TiVo to my friends and family.

What's great about it: It can record up to four shows at a time.
What's not so great: The price.
It works flawlessly. The only problems I had were courtesy of Time Warner Cable who gave me several bits of misinformation (i.e. telling me that I needed two cable cards and then telling me that I needed a tuning adapter when I wasn' t receiving all the channels. Both wrong. These problems were resolved when they sent a live installer to resolve the issues.) Programming may be done online at the TIVO website if your not at home. Also, they have a nice app that works on my Android phone when I am at home. The main advantage of using the cellphone is to do a search. It allows you to use the qwerty keyboard to enter the titles of what you are looking for. It does a nice job of downloading and playing videos from Youtube, etc. I would have given it ten stars if they were available. What the heck, here's the rest of them ***** !

What's great about it: 4 tuners - higher capacity
What's not so great: Upgrade issues
I upgraded from a Tivo HD. I love having the 4 tuners and faster response. However, upgrading has not been 100% trouble-free. When I moved the Cablecard from the HD to the Premiere Elite, I lost all my premium channels. Also, the guide seems to be missing a number of shows. The Tivo people can't seem to figure out why this is the case. The workaround is to simply schedule manually.

What's great about it: 4 tuners, Net interface, THX, 2 Terabites
What's not so great: A bit pricey
Have had TIVO Series1 since 99' then Series2 and 2 Series3 units but this Elite has taken it to a new level. The 4 tuners let me access everything from one unit and if the show I am looking for is not on TV it will automatically suggest I get it from Netflix, HULU or other places online for immediate viewing.
Also has a great YouTube interface at the same time and has a suggestion box at the top that lets you pic shows to record. Absolutely love it at this point and wish it came out a long before now.

What's great about it: 4 Tuners, Great Remote, Fast, Fluid
What's not so great: Wifi is extra, no clock on front display.
A while ago I gave up on Tivo and went to Time Warner's DVR, primarily for the dual tuner and broadband capabilities. I always thought Tivo's platform was far superior. Time Warner's boxes are terrible.
The Premier Elite finally convinced me to come back to Tivo and I am glad I did. The platform is fast, user friendly and familiar. The set up was a little cumbersome but not at all overwhelming. Got the cable card and encoder box (didn't realize I needed that too) from Time Warner and I got the Tivo Wireless N which was a snap to install, although I do think they ought to have had built in wifi. There's no excuse for that in this day and age but I've had no network issues since connecting so I am not worried.
4 tuners is amazing and the device works very fluidly. The remote is amazing -- I am now able to control my audio on the same remote which is a huge step forward from TIme Warner.
The only thing I miss right now is the clock from the front of the cable box. All in all, a great system!!! Tivo's BACK!!!
