I plugged in the USB into the computer and the player works. I like it when things operate like they are supposed to! My only criticism is the USB cord is about 18 inches too short.

What's great about it: works where others might not.
What's not so great: no external power option.
I got this because I had a bunch of CD's that I could not read on my CD slot loader. I was very happy to see it ripped through 90% of the CD that my Desktop CD drive could not read at all without a problem. My only nitpick is that it does not have a separate power input for an external supply. You have to use two USB ports and if you don't have enough free that can be a problem.
Otherwise I am very happy to be able to recover the music that I was afraid was lost from scratches on the CDs. It is a good solid reader and that's all I need.

What's great about it: good price works for my purposes
What's not so great: software not included
The external drive good for price. You must download light scribe software from website before you can print light scribe on dvd/cd. The Nero software included is trail version annoying to use. You can download a free light scribe software or use Roxio. If you are not comfortable with downloading and installing software would not reccommend, If you are comfortable then good drive for price.
