What's great about it: Sturdy, well-designed, accomodates a wide range or televisions.
What's not so great: The instruction booklet is minimal.
I ordered the OmniMount SCM-UA ceiling mount to install a 46" Sony NSX46GT1 Google television in my unfinished basement. I chose the more expensive ceiling mounting option because I was mounting the television diagonally in a corner and, by mounting a 2x12 between the joists, the ceiling mount was a simple and effective means of keeping the TV in the perfect position, yet off of a stand where my inquisitive cats would have been constantly "schnozzing" the screen. Let me stipulate that this mount is extremely well made and VERY heavy duty, sturdy, and will easily support the largest of flat screen televisions. The mount includes all necessary hardware for mounting the unit on a wide variety of televisions.
Although I had no problem figuring out how the unit should be assembled and installed, the instruction booklet leaves a lot to be desired. It provides illustrations, yet contains minimal instructions written in extremely small print, and in about a dozen languages. Installation consists of bolting the mounting plate to a suitable support, screwing in the threaded NPT S-pipe, installing the TV portion of the mount to the back of your television, and finally hanging the television on the ceiling portion of the mount. Cable management routes the cables through the mounting pipe, making the installation tidy.
The television portion of the unit accommodates standard VESA hole patterns up to 300 x 300, and also includes universal mounting brackets for larger patterns up to 800 x 800. My installation used the universal brackets. Screws, with washers/spacers as required, are provided in a variety of standard sizes for televisions that fail to include the wall mount screws. Again, instructions are minimal but it isn't difficult to figure things out from the illustrations.. Hanging the assembled television with bracket attached is simplified by a hook design at which point the television bracket is secured to the ceiling mount with two bolts. I was able to perform the entire installation, including hanging the television, by myself in about an hour. The tilt angle is adjustable in increments via a quick pin. The mount may be left free to be rotated side to side, or secured in a fixed position via Allen nuts. The mounted assembly is VERY sturdy and looks nice, giving the appearance of the television "floating." The S-pipe design keeps the weight distributed directly below the mounting point.
