What's great about it: Awesome bundle for the price
What's not so great: Wireless
This was the first Blu-ray I ever bought and it is great. The picture is crisp and clear, shows up fine on my LG 42 inch and the HDMI cable does make a difference. The downside about this model is no wireless connection but the TV and Xbox have wireless so that is not a worry for me. This is good quality from Sony and I didn't have to break an arm and a leg for a top shelf player or compromise for a low end player that would have died in a few months.

Purchased this item at my local Best Buy. This was my first Blue-ray player, so manufacturer branding was needed. SONY has never done me wrong. Excuse me while I get comfy to use my new player and watch a movie in the comfort of my own home. =)

Maybe it was a defective player but, didn't have time to get another one and possibly return it too. Simply bought a different player which worked fine. The great price ended up not being worth it.

After my Toshiba Blu-Ray with WiFi died on me I decided to "upgrade" to a Sony: BIG MISTAKE. I thought Ethernet would be faster and more reliable than Wifi - not with this player. I only watched one TV Episode on Netflix: it was stop & go at the beginning and then played nicely for approx. 30 minutes. After 34 (of 45) minutes the player stalled, loading the next minute of the show took several minutes. From there it was several minutes of loading to watch another minute or two; after 15 more minutes of stop & go streaming I gave up. Set-up was a hassle, too. I received frequent network error messages. Maybe it's my router, but I never had this kind of problem with my Toshiba. Will return the Sony BluRay and go back to a Toshiba with WiFi.

What's not so great: Ability to connect to surround system. Does not have the outputs
If you are connecting it directly to your TV it works great. If you what to connect to a surround system not so much. Does not have the necessary connections. Size is a plus if you are looking for something small.
Need had line to connect to Netflix or other options.
Had intended to use in living room but was unable to get it to work with the surround system. Moved it in to bedroom & works great.

Good price and good looking unit with a decent remote. Here is what it is lacking:
1) It says it has parental controls but it really doesn't. You can crank those controls down as tight as possible and the main menu still had a trailer for an R-Rated movie front an center for the kids to watch. The controls also make no sense as they are set to numbers 1-20 instead of normal ratings like PG, R, MA, TV-14, etc. The numbers don't seem to correlate with anything you can trust. I played with it for 2 hours and they are useless.
2) Only composite and HDMI outs. My Plasma only has Component.
3) Remote doesn't have a flip-out or slide-out keyboard. All "smart" devices should have this now. It is a requirement for any internet connected device if it is going to be easy to use.

The Sony BDPS185 is a nice little player for Blu-ray discs. The movies that I tried looked razor-sharp and played with no problems. The machine is very small and light (and so is the remote). However, I was disappointed with the DVD up-conversion capabilities of this player. I noticed no improvement at all, even though it had the latest firmware installed. My previous Blu-ray player, a Samsung model that is now broke, definitely did a better job upconverting DVD discs. And since 95% of my video collection consists of DVD's, that was a deal-breaker for me.
I took this player back and will look into getting another Samsung.

One heck of a deal for the money....it really is a steal! Easy to hook up the NETFLIX!!! And enjoying great movies with the 1080 resolution and with the HDMI hook up!!! Very good buy, you'll be very happy with this one.

What's great about it: Connects to many Internet sites,free worldmade & plays BDs.
What's not so great: slow loading and hangs up on internet.
I upgraded my Internet to 5 Mbps, because the info. said 2 minimum, but it still takes much time and effort to get online to a site like Crackle. I bought it on sale and I got what I paid. A BD takes longer to load than for my Samsung DVD player. When a BD or Internet movie starts it seems to be OK, except it sometimes hangs up on the Internet, but this could be the Internet provider, or the site. It is made in the Free World, which is a big plus.

I am really impressed with the Blue Ray Player I bought. I have not had a new video player for some years and did not realize how small they are now. I also did not realize what all it can do. The only thing I wish I had done, would have been to by the wireless. I was not even aware you could get it in a wireless.

What's great about it: Low cost and great HD picture.
What's not so great: DVD upconversion hit and miss. Remote not well matched to unit. Power light hidden.
This Bluray player performs quite well for a unit with such a low cost. It has numerous internet options for program content (most are subscription based).
It is quite responsive to the remote's keys. Although it is odd that the remote looks like it was made for a complete different player as it looks nothing like the player and is even a different texture and shape. The remote is the weak link to using this unit. The Play/Stop/Rewind/FF buttons are placed all the way at the bottom making it difficult to use one handed. The 4 color buttons have only one use in menus only and seems to be an afterthought that has little use. The universal programming supports only a small set of TV sets so volume and other TV type buttons were useless for me.
The picture output of the player using HDMI is fantastic! The HD resolutions show off your HD TV's capabilities nicely. However the upconversion of DVDs wasn't consistant at all. Some DVD SD content looked awful while others were presentable. So don't plan on this looking great when playing all SD DVDs.
The small footprint of the player means it fits very easily into almost any home theater housing or cabinet. The control buttons being on top mean they are almost useless. These controls were probably placed on top because the unit is so lite that a front panel button push would have moved the unit. The power light is also on top and completely invisible from any angle except directly above the unit. This is my least liked feature. I want to see an indication of power condition on my components.
This unit is wired ethernet only. There is no wireless connection. It doesn't need wireless. Several people on the web have discovered how to hook up a wireless adapter. But frankly, you shouldn't want wireless in any internet capable video device anyway. Only ethernet can provide the high data rate necessary to pump HD video over the net. Most people who use wireless internet ready players are sorely disappointed. So if you want an internet capable video streaming device you should only consider wired ethernet connections.
I don't play CD music much at all so I did not test this capability.
Bluray disks have long load times but this is not at all unusual for any Bluray player. Remember your buffering gigabytes of data as apposed to the few hundred megabytes of DVDs. THis takes a bit to load.
I would recommend this player for any cost conscious buyers who want to make Blurays or HD programming their main playing source while still being able to play their old SD DVDs.
This unit isn't perfect but is a very good buy considering the cost.
