What's great about it: Amazing picture quality and great price
What's not so great: no smooth motion option
I had held off on getting a projector for a long time because what I'd see on display (in the rare instances I could find a place with a display unit running) was usually not very bright and of only fair picture quality and would cost thousands of dollars. Taking the plunge on this entry level model from Epson I was shocked at the picture quality for the price. This is what a home theater is all about, projecting a 10 foot image with amazing clarity and color. We watched the last few episodes of Battlestar Galactica on Blu-ray to break it in, and I can't rave enough about how amazing it looked, and I was just projecting onto my bare wall (no screen). Plus, this is the first time I've felt that 3D in the home actually looked good. If you're looking for an entry level projector with reference level quality, get the Epson 3010.

What's great about it: Easy to set up, versatile placement
What's not so great: I've seen comparable pictures on much lower costing projectors
I saw a lot of projectors comparable to the 3010 but one option that I loved, the split screen feature, compelled me to purchase the 3010. What most resellers don't know and Epson doesn't tell you is that it doesn't work with two HDMI sources!! My laptop only has an HDMI port for video, I tried the USB video adapter but the resolution is so low and there is no audio. At this point I concentrated on the picture quality before I decided if I was going to return the 3010. The picture quality didn't blow me away and I don't plan on viewing 3D, I think projectors are a few years away from great 3D quality, My first benchmark was NBA basketball on TNT. Lots of fast motion. The 3010 didn't do well, I was actually disappointed, spent 3 hours making adjustments trying to get the optimum pic but still wasn't satisfied. Now I'm upset about the issues handling the fast motion, I had to adjust the image size to about 50" for a decent pic, I may as well buy a TV. Spent the day watching everything I could to truly evaluate the 3010, terrible with SD TV. Decided to buy another projector while I still had the 3010 and compare the two. Picked up the Optoma HD23, it only took an hour before it was back in the box and ready to be returned. That's all I have to say about that!
The other day I saw a reseller that had an LG AF115. Had never seen or heard about this projector while doing my research. I did some research and found that it is a LCOS projector. MSRP was in the $2500.00 range and it was on sale for $999.00. I've heard nothing but good things about LCOS technology and the specs were comparable to the 3010, just no 3D or speakers (both of which I wasn't going to be using), Packed up the 3010, got the AF115. It's a huge projector, bigger than the 3010 but boy am I happy. This projector far exceeds the 3010 in every aspect. The lens has incredible zoom capabilities. I've got it 12' from the screen and it gives me a min of 70" with a max of 130" image. Much better handling of blacks than the 3010, better color and much crisper picture. And it handles fast motion so much better!! SD looked near HD quality! Another feature I love is a real sleep timer that doesn't depend on a loss of signal. My cable box still generates a signal when it's off so the sleep function of all other projectors I've had was useless. I used to wake up with the projector still on, not anymore!!! Love this projector!!

What's great about it: The bright, sharp video quality
What's not so great: Lacks lens shift
My last projector became dark pretty quickly, so the most important thing I was looking for was a bright, sharp picture. Based on reviews, I tried this one and the picture is GREAT! I'm projecting it on a 133" screen from about 12 feet away. Watched Avatar 3D with the glasses that came with it (2 pair!) and WOW!
My last projector (Sony $3500) died after about 5 years. Repair would have cost as much as the original purchase price. Maybe projectors just don't last that long or maybe I got a bad one. Anyway, being able to pay just $1500 (on sale) for this one with a picture that is better than the Sony was at its best is great. If this one dies in a few years (sure hope it doesn't), I'll feel better about only paying $1500 rather than $3500.
Only negative is no lens shift. You have to move the whole projector on the ceiling mount into the perfect position. Lens shift would have made fine tuning this a lot easier.
Overall, I LOVE this projector!

What's great about it: 3D, brightness, display, setup ease
I had a lower end projector for a golf simulator and we decided to buy a retractable screen and an upgraded projector to make it into a movie room. I have a 55" LED 3D TV downstairs, so we wanted to purchase a 3D projector without breaking the bank. We didn't need the wireless HD so we purchased this projector and we have loved it. The 3D is as good as my LED if not better. It is a great value for the price. What is even better is that i purchased the Best Buy warranty for 4 years and it covers bulbs! I have used it on PS3 FPS games and 3D games and Blu-Rays and it works great.

What's great about it: Quality/Price/Warranty/ease of installation
What's not so great: None ......
Before I installed the screen, I was able to get great video even on a "brown textured wall". With the distance, wall to wall I have in this room, I can project a 161" diagonal screen with great resolution, starting about 18" from the floor. Blu-Ray is Fantastic. DVD's are very good. HD TV is very good. For some reason, Animations (even on TV) are Great. 3D is Unbelievable ...... Used the Disney WoW (Blu-Ray version) to calibrate it. Definitely WoW ! ! ! Granted, the higher-end Epson projectors get even better, but for the price, I'm so very satisfied.

What's great about it: picture quality
What's not so great: 3D usage requires a special screen.
The quality of the picture is great. Even with a distance of 20 feet between the projector and screen. I upgraded from an older Samsung model and their is no comparison in the picture quality. The only draw back which was not explained to me by the Best Buy sales person is that a 3D compatible screen is needed to view 3D movies.

What's great about it: everything!
What's not so great: I need more pairs of 3d glasses! lol
This is my first projector, but I had no problem setting it up thanks to the simple to follow instructions.the first might I had it, we connected it to the bluray player I also purchased from best buy and watched Transformers 3, even without the screen that I ordered separately, and protected upon a wall, the image was crisp and clean, we could see great detail in all of the special effects! The 3d active shutter glasses worked very well too, and since it came with 2 pair, both my roommate and I could enjoy it right away!

What's great about it: Incredible picture and color
What's not so great: The projector housing is a little larger than most
I replaced an Optoma HD70 (720p) projector with the Epson. I thought that the Optoma had a great picture. The Epson 3010's picture is significantly better. There is better color and clarity with the Epson. I use a 120" screen. I have a dark room and the picture is incredible. The picture is bright and clear with the lights on as well. I was floundering between staying under $1000 or spending $1500 for the Epson. I have no regrets. Projector is very quite, I can barely hear the fan when there is no audio on. I have no regrets with this purchase. My receiver does not pass through 3D, so I have not had achance to see how well it performs.

What's great about it: Everything except the size
What's not so great: Its a bit big. I wish they had put a handle on it.
Everything about this project lives up the the epson brand.
When I first bought this I was maybe this is to much to spend for a projector. I figured I would test it out first. Plugged in my Samsug Blu-ray player (BD-D6500ZA) put in capt america in 3D. Played the movie. Then at that spot I knew it was not going back. All my friends love it too. Other then projector being so large with no handle; its perfect.
The project does use the new universal 3D glasses. Which mean you can get glasses a great deal cheeper. You don't have to buy epson ones. I did picked up the PlayStation 3 3D Glasses for $39.99. Which work great.
The interal speaker work great. I had some wireless speakers I was going to use, but the internal speakers are great.
I have not had a chance to try it on my Xbox yet. I've have the unit about 4 weeks now.

What's great about it: Very easy to set up, great price
I was amazed with the quality of this projector and the price I paid for it. I'm shooting my projector from a ceiling mount 16 feet onto 120 inch screen innovations screen. I watch movies, tv and play PS3 on it and its amazing. I have not found one thing I don't like about this projector. I'm not really into 3D so it was just a bonus for me to get it along with the 2 pairs of glasses that came with the projector. Projector is amazing but one piece of advice I can give is don't cheap out on your screen. I paid more for my screen then the projector itself. But you can really see a difference. I looked at the epson 5010 model as well. My uncle just bought one and when he saw how good my 3010 looked he was wondering why he paid so much more for his.

What's great about it: 3d
What's not so great: game lag
First, I will tell you that I had a few problems with my setup. These are direct question and answers from the Epson Techs.
(Problem 1)
When I first install the 3010 and connected my PS3 the picture would flash on and off every 15 to 30 seconds but it whould not do this while watching a movie.
(Problem 2)
When viewing directv (tv shows or movies)the first 10 to 20 minutes are ok but after that the picture would flash on and off every 15 to 30 seconds.
Also the gaming sucks bad on this projector because of the lag. will it be any updates to fix this?
ANSWERS FROM THE EPSON TECH
Thank you for contacting Epson.
For both issues, as a test, directly connect the PS3 then the DirecTV box to the projector. This will bypass the A/V receiver. More than likely the image from the DirecTV will be ok but the PS3 will still do the issue. This is because the DirecTV signal is 1080i and doesn't require as much bandwidth to display as a full 1080p signal does. When displaying the home screen with the settings, the signal is a full 1080p signal but when the movie plays it is probably a 1080p with 24 fps signal that doesn't require as much bandwidth as a full 1080p signal. This all leads up to being a cable length issue. This can be tested by connecting a shorter cable as a test. We only guarantee the signal will work from source to projector with a 15 ft HDMI cable. In order for you to still use the 40 ft HDMI cable, you will need to purchase an HDMI signal booster. This will amplify the signal across the long run to the projector.
Unfortunately there will be no update to the lag for gaming. The lag is caused by a hardware component and not just the firmware. Some games do have a setting to calibrate the controller to the video being displayed.
If you require further assistance with this particular issue, please ensure all of our previous correspondence is contained in your reply, so we can better track the history of this issue.
If you have a different issue, please submit another E-form via our website (http://www.epson.com), and we will respond in a timely manner. Thank you again for contacting Epson.

So to fix this problem I i bought a hdmi signal booster and everything has been working great. But for gaming my luck has ran out. Also if you can't find extra espon 3d glass you can use the Panasonic 3rd generation, you will know this by the model number exp.TY-EW3D3SU the 3 before the S means 3rd generation the the S means small. The Panasonic are also rechargeable but the Epson's are not.
this package does come with 2 free pair of 3d glass which is a plus.

What's great about it: Picture and quick set-up
What's not so great: Need more 3D movies to watch
When looking at 3D TV's the cost for a large screen has extremely high, after reading reviews on projectors I purchased the Epson 3010. I am pleased with the 3010, picture quality is very good and set-up was quick and easy. I would recommend anyone looking at 3D to consider
Epson. PS3 has universal 3D glass at 1/3 the cost of Epson, $49.00ea.
