What's great about it: The colorful and hyped-up packaging.

What's not so great: Can't perform a basic feature like cropping.

I was looking for a simple-to-use photo editing software and was not interested in a complex package a la Photoshop. I saw this Photo Ultimate 10 package at Best Buy and was impressed by the description of the features on the package. I have not explored all features of the Photo & Graphic Designer yet, but came to a full stop when I tried a simple crop operation. You'd think that's about the simplest operation of a photo editor. Select the crop command, draw a rectangle and select crop (or clip as this software calls it). Well, I spent an hour trying to get this command to crop, but no luck. I then went on the Magix Xara Forum Website and realized I was not the only frustrated user, trying a to do a simple edit of a photo. Scores of threads deal with the problem of not being able to crop a photo. However, there was a moderator's posting who claims that you can crop if you do a number of complicated steps. I tried his steps and yes it does somehow crop, but it leaves the uncropped area intact as a translucent image.

I planned to post a comment on that Forum, but after registering and receiving a confirmation, it wouldn't let me post a comment.

The above experience was enough for me not even to bother to explore the rest of the features. It was a total waste of money. I went ahead and installed the free photo editing software "Gimp" and got my cropping done cop-chop.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: Easy to use, Powerful, Great Results

What's not so great: Unknown at this time

I do not often find myself wanting to write reviews for products, but this one deserves it. I received this as a gift over the holidays, maybe out of frustration I had with other photo software's I had been using. Regardless, it has allowed me to be creative again.

First off, it is simple to use. I did not need to spend hours reading a manual or visiting websites to find answers to my questions. Everything flows together... thought I am sure there are some hidden features I have yet to explore. Secondly, it is powerful software. I am able to mix different media together without getting lost in the process. So, photos, video, audio come together to make ideal slide-shows and presentations... all this and the ability to burn onto disc from one program... Fantastic!

It has all the tools to make photos look better, add in effects, add in decorations, texts, transitions. I wish I had this software years ago. But software is harder and harder to find these days. The big name guys don't seem to keep up with trends.

In conclusion... if you have a camera and you have a PC, you should get this software. I highly recommend it.

I would recommend this to a friend!
