What's great about it: Features galore!
I gave "Ease of Installation" an "Average" rating, because it helps to understand how to set up routers when using advanced features of this device. Now for the good part. I have a Virgin Mobile MC760 USB broadband adapter that I purchased so I can use my laptop on the road. I really wanted a way to share this inexpensive connection so that our entire family could use our HP Touchpads & Kindle Fire tablets while we are at our camp during the summer. This ZyXEL MWR211 Router works perfectly for this! This router has 2 functions: (1) for use as a mobile router when using a USB broadband device and (2) for use as a portable router to be connected to an existing wired WAN. It has all the features you would expect to see on a home-based router (Common wireless security modes, DHCP, MAC filtering, Static Routes, and DDNS)
***NOTE for advanced users (everyone else can ignore this): I should note, however that the DDNS is only on the wired WAN port and does not resolve the IP and hostname on the USB mobile broadband device side.***
Battery life is better than the reviews I have read. Reviews implied 2 hour max, but I got almost 4 hours before charging. At this point, every device and OS has connected to this Router without issue. I should caution you that you MUST be patient during configuration. This router takes some time after configuration changes/reboots to connect to the internet. At first, I thought it wasn't working, but after a minute or so, all was good. How is Support?... I contacted ZyXEL tech support for clarification of a feature and they were incredibly helpful. I actually got to speak with a human being that was knowledgeable and friendly. I'm very happy with this product, but I advise that if you are not familiar with manually setting up a router, ask someone who is "tech-savvy" for help.
