What's great about it: Logical flow through the process

What's great about it: The program grabbed my W2 from the a web site
What's not so great: I was eligible to get a renters credit and the program wouldn't let me!
Tough to use. I struggled for three days to answer yes or no questions in order to figure out what deductions to take. I wasn't able to understand why there were duplicate entries which I had to delete for claiming income for which I dd not have a 1099.
Also, when I was doing the California State Tax, I got an on screen message that said I was eligible to take the credit for renting an apartment. Unfortunately, the program locked me out of that part where I could have gotten money and because that was the last part of the tax prep, I gave up at that point and didn't know how to get the credit to be included with my state tax.
I thought it was kind of lame to have to pay extra for having two state tax filings.
As I was reduced to tears several times, I am just going to bite the bullet next year and pay someone to do my tax for me. It's too difficult with the way they have it set up that you answer yes or no questions to proceed in certain directions.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: Like the transfer of data from last year's return.
What's not so great: The way that the questions were asked as I thought that it was more confusing this year when completing the forms.
I used to LOVE TurboTax software, usually very easy to use, intuitive, good value for the money; however this year's version did not flow as well, you never knew what section you were on or what was coming up next. I loved last year's version and looked forward to seeing that 'flow' again...but I was very disappointed. I wished that they would stay with one method of delivering questions, answers, visual queues, and verbiage, and leave it alone so that we can become proficient at using it. I like the transfer of last year's data to this year's version, but not sure that it is worth it any more. I may be switching products next year.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: One of the easiest tax software packages ever!!
What's not so great: Wish it was on sale....
Have used this for 3 years now. Was going to switch to H&R block because they sent it to me for free (to get me back). I loaded it and gave it a try but hated it - uninstalled it - and then purchased TurboTax. So easy to use and was able to use the DeductionPro again as well.
I would recommend this to a friend!

My husband used TurboTax to do our taxes, as he has done for years. There were several years when I used TurboTax, too, when we were filing individually. He intends to use it in the future. His only concerns are that there is a learning curve involved and, in some complex tax situations, one has to complete extra steps and research to insure that everything gets reported correctly.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: quick set up, asks questions to make sure you're not missing anything
What's not so great: It's not a live person
Used taxman last year and went back to turbo tax this year. Unless you have very complicated investments it's very easy to use.

What's great about it: It makes a tax return a "do it yourself" project again.
What's not so great: It makes a tax return a "do it yourself" project again.
It still took most of a day to get everything together and entered (first year I've used it so no importing of last year....). But, at least I didn't have to read every IRS direction for every line on every form to be sure that information was put in the right place. Plus I'm not loosing any sleep worrying about math errors.
I would recommend this to a friend!

In fact, this product becomes more easy to use each year. It will auto-upload almost everything you need. I've never (knock wood) had a problem and I've used it since the product first appeared on the market for Macintosh.

What's not so great: Cost of additional state software
The software is good ... have used it for many years. My chief complaint is that I must file in two states and the charge for the additional state is $45. This is ridiculously high given the cost of the software was $59. Will look for other solutions next year.

What's great about it: It is a one-stop software
What's not so great: I do have some complicated issues that may need more.
I have used Turbo Tax for many years. I love the ease of use and that most of my questions are answered right on the software. My only problem is not recognizing that the same land can be used for two different purposes.

What's great about it: Leads one through the entire procss in an ordrly manner
What's not so great: Charging extra to file the state, missed deductions
Overall, it was an acceptable program to genereate the necessary tax forms all filled out and reay to send in or e-file. My objection to the e-file procss is that it costs $20 to file the state. In the past years, it was FREE along with the federal forms. It missed some obvious deductions that anyone who reviewed the filled out forms would have seen immediately. It never asked the questions to lead one to that form.

What's great about it: Generally easy to use, complete and accurate.
What's not so great: Not so easy to come back to where you left off from a previous day's entries.
I have been using Turbo Tax for years. It is easy to use -- for the most part. It is especiallay nice to have all the previous year's information carried over to the present year's forms and to have the state information automatically filled in.

What's not so great: False Advertising of Price!
The product was very good but I thought since I was buying the Deluxe Federal + State Efile for $42.99 it would complete the job for both Federal and State. Now after a more closer look at the way they advertise it I see how they scammed me. If you read closely you'll see, "TurboTax Deluxe Federal + State + Federal E-File 2011 - Mac/Windows". They cleverly leave out, "State E-File 2011" which costs another $19.95. Why not just advertise $62.94 for everything? Don't most people have to file a fed and state return???????

Product walked us thru everything possible. Great for those who have a home,w2 employees, filing joint married, kids, and no other things. It can get harder with more stuff, self employed, rentals, stocks, etc.
