What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: More complicated tax situations may be hard to figure out
Began using Taxcut in 1993 when it was sold by Parsons Technologies. Obviously been improved every year since then. Easy to use, especially once you figure out how to move around the various sections and forms. I have used the H&R Block "Ask a Professional" and have been disappointed in their "help" and don't think it is worth the money. Unless you have a very simple question, they probably can't/won't answer it. I've even gone into an H&R office and ended up telling the person there how the program works. Oh well, still a good product.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Low cost, easy set up, easy to use, good interview
I used Turbotax for years and the price just kept going up. I can't do the free online Turbotax or free HRBlock program because I have a K-1 (i.e., I need to file a 1040 vs a 1040 EZ or 1040 A). This program gives me all I need.
I have used HR Block Basic for at least the last 4 years and I now like it just as well as Turbotax. This version (Basic Federal + E-File 2011) is the lowest version (lowest price, least frills). Besides the K-1, I have several other special financial items, but this handles them all. I think you need to look on the box or go to a website and see if you can "get by" (in a good way) with this basic version of HR Block. I believe almost everyone can. When you view the back of the boxes and see what the (higher priced) versions (named "Deluxe" "Deluxe with State", etc.) include, you are tempted to spend more for the same info. Most people don't need it. This "Basic Federal + E-File 2011" is just right.
As for my state tax return, I can take my Federal info and go to a state tax website (this is in Virginia) and fill it out on-line just by entering information from the Federal form. Another option I have used for the past couple of years is to forego the state website for some of my returns (I do my kids' as well as my own return) and go to my local Commissioner of Revenue's office. They can do it for me in about 5 minutes.
Will I buy this again next year? Definitely!
