Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones - Widescreen

SKU: 4771562
UPC: 024543055396
The second prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy takes place ten years after the events depicted in Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace. Now 20, young Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is an apprentice to respected Jedi knight Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). Unusually powerful in the Force, Anakin is also impatient, arrogant, and headstrong -- causing his mentor a great deal of concern. The pair are ordered to protect Padme Amidala (Natalie Portman), the former queen of the planet Naboo, now representing her world in the Galactic Senate. Someone is trying to assassinate her on the eve of a vote enabling Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) to build a military force that will safeguard against a growing separatist movement led by mysterious former Jedi Count Dooku (Christopher Lee). After another attempt on Padme's life, Obi-Wan and Anakin separate. The young Jedi and Padme fall in love as he escorts her first to the security of Naboo and then to his home world of Tatooine, where the fate of his mother leads him to commit an ominous atrocity. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan travels to the secretive planet Kamino and the asteroid-ringed world of Geonosis, following bounty hunter Jango Fett (Temuera Morrison) and his son, Boba (Daniel Logan), who are involved in an operation to create a massive army of clones. A vicious battle ensues between the clones and Jedi on one side and Dooku's droids on the other, but who is really pulling the strings in this galactic conflict? In late 2002, the movie was released in IMAX theaters as Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones: The IMAX Experience, with a pared-down running time of 120 minutes in order to meet the technical requirements of the large-screen format. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

What's great about it: The movie is excellent, great quality and price, tons of special features
What's not so great: Romance dialogue is sometimes cliche' and cheesy
All the issues from Phantom Menace have been resolved in Attack of the Clones. The pacing is much better, Jar-Jar is only around in a few scenes (and he isn't obnoxious), and midichlorians go without mention. The action is even more grand and violent than in 'Phantom' with huge clone on droid battles and over a hundred Jedi against more droids. The plot and pacing is kept simple but very well played out, and the acting itself is excellent, especially seen in Ewan McGregor's performance as Obi-Wan. He becomes Obi-Wan himself, and the way Ewan can display being a Jedi mentor so convincingly is Oscar-worthy. The only problem here is some romance dialogue with Anakin and Padme', which is either very corny or very akward. As in 'Phantom' the video and audio quality is phenomonal, and the strange bombs that Jango Fett's SLAVE I drops that make such an ominous BooMSH! noise, you'll rewind back just to here it (and see it again). The perfect example for great video is the mouth-watering, bright blue of Force Lightning. Despite not being made specifically for HD TVs, it actually looks and sounds better in HD, without any blurriness that you often get when watching DVDs in HD. To finish off the package we get a huge amount of special features such as deleted scenes, commentaries, featurettes, documentaries, yada yada yada, all in the best of quality. So overall, this is a DVD nobody with a DVD player shouldn't have. Attack of the Clones hits nearly everything right, and is deserving of your $20.

Star Wars episode 2 is on of my favorite films ever. The special effects in this movie are so much better than the Star Wars movies before this one. I liked the chase scene at the beginning of the movie where Anankin and Obi-Wan chase down an assassin who tries to assassinate Senator Amidala. The coolest part of the movie was at the end where they show the clone troopers for the first time and they duel with the droids. The lightsaber battle at the end with Count Dooku was pretty cool too. The new animated Yoda looks so much cooler than the previous movies Yodas. The second disc has a ton of special features. There are some great deleted scenes and over ten mini documentaries that explain so much about the movie. There are also alot of theatrical trailers and TV spots too. This is a great deal as far as the quality of the movie and all the special features included. This is money well spent.

Out of the entire 6 movies this is absolutely the worst. They show bobafetts face and make a whole bunch of other mistakes. This whole movie is a mistake. I fell asleep in the theater. Doesnt have the star wars feel at all.

What's great about it: Extras, music, quality action
What's not so great: none
The movie overall is much better than episode I (maybe it's because of barely any jar jar!). The action sequences are great, and the last battle gave me goosebumps when I watched it the first time... although for that to happen you probably need to be an avid Star Wars fan. Must have for Star Wars fan, and a very good addition to any fan of movies. After you watch this movie, you will be dying to see what happens in the next, so have episode III handy!

What's great about it: Great visuals
What's not so great: weak script, acting/directing
This movie was better than Episode I, but that's not saying much. Apparently Lucas read the hate mail about Jar Jar Binks and downsized his role considerably. The new Anakin may have been even more stiff and annoying than the one from Episode I if that's possible. Also, they never really made it clear which side Count Dooku was on. Seemed like he was on the dark side, but if that's the case then why rat out the Emperor to Obi Wan when he wasn't even being tortured for info. Seemed like he was working both sides of the fence but to what end? That was never explained. Like Episode I, Episode 2 was largely throwaway because nothing of importance other than the love story and the Emperor's continued ascension happened and they wasted an entire movie on that + another meaningless battle at the end which meant having to cram the real story of the fall of Anakin and the rise of Vader into the next movie. The dialogue was lame, the emotion contrived, and the battle at the end seemed more like Gladiator than a Star Wars movie. What's with all the fighting "down on the planet" anyway (what is this a bad Star Trek episode?). The name of the series is "Star Wars", not "down on the planet wars." As was the case for Episode I, am I sorry this movie was made, no but I'm sorry it wasn't better made.

Much to my dismay, 'Attack of the Clones' was a worse film than 'Phantom Menace,' further hurting the Star Wars saga. Nonetheless, the dvd is quite good with lots of goodies for the few people who actually enjoyed this film.

What's great about it: The Sequel to the Phantom Menace
What's not so great: More of a love story than anything else
Even though this movie is not the best of the Star Wars saga, you still get to see the story develop and how the clone wars started. Not just that Yoda fights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok Phatom Menace wasn't that good, but its a start and Clones will keep it going. This movie had everything a jedi fan would love, yoder finally fighting, the largest group of lightsaver fights, and the beginning rage of Anakin

This movie is great. That statement stands on its own, but is far too simple to describe how good this movie is and how it truly lives up to the Star Wars standard of movie. Episode I was an alright movie but was a big let down for many fans. The build up was impossible to live up to, but when it was released, Episode I just took away from most fans Star Wars experience. Episode II came back with a punch. In fact, it was a combo that just kept hitting hard.
Anyone can appreciate an action film like this, as it was non-stop in this one. A Star Wars fan can appreciate this because it really shows us more of the Star Wars universe we know. Its good to see the overall story develop and proceed. Episode I faltered in this a little, but both seemed to be clearer when Episode III came out. Episode II was an action film that made the Star Wars experience fun again.

Still no acting and even worse dialogue. Can Lucas even write a script anymore?! Action sequences are all you will get out of this one. Just Watch the last 45 min or so, or skip it altogether and buy ROTS.
