What's great about it: Easy to use!
"I purchased a newly designed Bissel prior to this and I hated how the dirty water was wrapped around a clean water like balloon. I was amazed their designers came up with such a stupid design. It was a real pain unloading and reloading.
I returned the Bissel and purchased this simple design Hoover. It works good and is easy to use."

Great carpet cleaner

What's great about it: Easy to use, great for normal household stains, ready to use when I need it.
"This is a great unit and I would recommend it to friends and family. It is comes complete with everything you need for normal household use. We have a small dog and it worked well with pet stains.
Beware of other stores that sell Hoover spinbrush units. Another big box store had their Hoover spinbrush on sale for $20 less and it looked identical to this one however upon closer inspection, the cheaper one did not have the spinbursh upholstery tool. The tool works well.
In doing the research, I was concerned about the comments on difficulty with set up, clean up, and leaks. So I was careful to follow the instructions and everything worked out well.
Using BestBuy.com with the store pick-up option saved about $30 because the online price was less than the store price and no shipping.
This Hoover replaced a 12 yr old Hoover which we bought second hand 8 years ago. I tried to repair it before buying this one but found that the motor/pump assembly was clogged with debris. You can be sure we will vacuum the carpets very well before using this unit (again, following instructions). Considering that this one is of similar construction, I expect a solid 18 years of using it twice per month."

"I love this machine! I have had other brands and this one is the best. I have long thread carpet and a couple of new puppies. You know what that means! My Hoover took care of it the very first time. I used an entire 48oz bottle of Preium Pet Hoover shampoo. I went really slow and I couldn't believe the color of the water in the receiver tank. YUK! Its not that color anymore and the bad smell is gone too. I need a little more practice with the hand tools for the stairs. It worked but I'm sure it will do better if I take my time. Set up was fairly easy and cleaning it for storage was even easier. Machine is a little heavy lugging up the stairs. Follow directions on how to lift/carry machine. I highly recommend this Hoover! WOW!"

"I love the way this machine works! Handles easily, light weight, and really pulls the dirt out as well as drying the carpets as you clean with its blower. Leaves very little water in carpet so carpets dries quickly. Clean up is not bad. Only thing I dislike is having to remove the 2 screws to clean the top cover when cleaning machine after use."

"I bought this Steam Cleaner for my Daughter-in-Law for Christms. She loved it! With two little children and two dogs in the house, she was constantly having to borrow a friends SteamVac to get the rugs clean. She loves the fact that she can now just pull this out of her own closet and within seconds is ready to go with quick clean ups when something gets spilled or the dogs have dirty paws. She also likes the fact that she can do the steps. The SteamVac that she was borrowing didn't have the capability to do the steps. She also said that the cord is nice and long so she can cover a large area without having to unplug and move to a different outlet. The gift was a hit. Not to mention the kids always have clean carpets to play and crawl around on."

What's great about it: easy to use, very clean, moisture trace seen on the fly

"I selected the SteamVac due to its highest positive online review. Generally speaking, it is a nice cleaner, though It should not be called steam vac, as you have to add hot water by yourself, and the unit wont boil the water to steam for you.
Pros: easy to use, moisture trace can be seen from the top surface of the water tank while you clean, you can easily judge where to apply more dry strokes (suction only) and how wet your carpet remains.
Cons: 1. when I first assembled it, I suspected I got a refurbished one. There was a scratch on the front surface covered by a piece of big black tape. The workmanship of some parts look rough. Anyway it is used as a cleaner, so I kept it.
2. My first application is to deoder. I did not find such a brand from Hoover. So I bough other brands of solution, When hot water is added, too much foam was generated in the dirty water tank that caused the floater to choke the airflow and automatically terminate the wet cycle. The floater is designed to do so only when the tank is almost full. You have to dump the dirty water more frequently to avoid the false "tank full" protection.
3. The hose has a notch interface to connect to vaccum source. When not used, it is supposed to hook on the back of the unit. Unfortunately, it gets loose from the hook very easily. The hook is litterally a peg, not a hook.
4. Remember to put the cover back onto the clean water tank each time you refill the solution. It works without the cover, but when you dump the dirty water tank you have to lay the handle flat on floor, the clean water tank attached on it may spill and mess up your carpet without the cover on.

"I have not owned a rug cleaner before but the amount of dirty water I got was amazing. It is so much cheaper than getting your rugs cleaned and you can do spot cleaning in between. Worked on an Ottman also that had ch. milk spilled on it. Used it on wall to wall and area rugs and if you go over it a few times it seems to really pick up the liquid so my rugs were not very wet. I think it is a good value. I don't think it really steams the rug though. You use hot water and the shampoo included."

"You HAVE TO MOVE SLOW!!!!!!!!!!! This thing is great it cleaned, both my beach house and my house and the carpet looks good as new everywhere except for the stairs. The stair cleaner attachment is horrible. Also I noticed if you use regular hoover solution it doesn't do half as good a job as the platinum solution that costs twice as much. I also boiled the water before I put it in the machine as per other reviews and it seems to really break the dirt down. I also recommend you buy a cheap funnel to pour the solution in and especially if you boil your water like I did. I also used it on laminate floor with the laminate floor cleaner and at first I thought it scratched the surface but I mop and glowed it after and my kitchen also looks brand new. I did my entire house which is 1300 sq ft. on two bottles of the platinum solution which is $40 bucks, the kitchen a quarter of hard floor solution $10, and most of my beach house with one bottle of the platinum $20. If you factor all that in it was cheaper for me to do two houses myself then one house professionally."

"First of all, I'm not really one to write a review.. As a matter of fact, I have never in my adult life written a review. But after using this machine - I felt compelled to say something. This is by far the best cleaner ever. This was my first carpet cleaner purchase so I don't really have another product or brand to compare it to, but I was really impressed with the results. Even my children commented on the carpet's appearance compared to how it looks when the professionals clean it. I have always had my carpet professionally cleaned. Never again! Use this and you will not only save money, but you won't be disappointed.
There are just a few small / minor drawbacks - It is heavy! I don't have stairs so I didn't have to worry about that, but it does take some energy to lug it around. Secondly, you will find yourself going thru the cleanser pretty quickly and lastly, some of the parts, particularly the hose, kept falling off and getting in the way. I simply removed it. Don't know that I will have much use for it in the future. But enough griping.. these are all just minor things to expect, but I promise - the job that this machine performs will compensate for the drawbacks. Plus, the carpet dries extremely fast! And it doesn't wet or soak up like when the professionals do it. I am def a happy camper and would recommend this product to anyone seeking a good carpet cleaner."

What's not so great: Frequent changing tanks, doesn't clean berber carpet well
"The Hoover gave poor performance cleaning my old berber carpet. It cleans the upper surface but doesn't get the dirt out on the lower surfaces of the carpet.
Even after many runs, there remains significant and visible dirt on the lower (canyon) surfaces of the carpet. Where before the dirty carpet had an even dirt grey color, now the top surfaces is cleaner but much of the dirt remains in the lower zig zag channels of the berber carpet. The view is not pleasant.....lots of dirt grey zig zag trails throughout the carpet.
I discovered that the spin scrub brushes are free floating and do not exert any pressure on the carpet. Thats probably why it doesn't get out the ingrained dirt lower down from the carpet surface."

"I live in an apartment with three dogs,one is newly adopted and not completely housebroken. In addition, lots of mud has been brought into this house from the rain and snow.
Unfortunately this apartment has white carpet and shows every little stain.
The Hoover Steamvac truly has changed my life. I use it frequently and my carpet looks near to new. It has gotten the dog odor out of the carpet.
I love it so much I purchased one for my mother for Christmas.

"Simply love this carpet cleaner. It is extremely easy to use and gets rid of the absolute worst stains. We have dogs, boys, teenagers, and a wheelchair handicapped grandma who spills as much as the boys and this cleaner has gotten all the stains out of the carpet. "The return water unit has a rubber gasket that does not work to keep the suction going.
We got one and used it a little over an hour and the suction stopped.
We took it back, got another one and it did the same thing, only in less than 10 minutes.
We took it back and got our money back.
We won't get another one. And we are back to renting a machine."
