What's great about it: Easy to use and actually cleans!
What's not so great: Had to change tank a couple times, but it's better to have small than big and too heavy!
"I am so pleased with this cleaner! I just finished using it and had to write a review!
I have three dogs (including 1 puppy!) and my carpets were in desperate need of a cleaning. I thought about calling a professional, but just didn't want to go through the hassle of it all including the price!
I looked at all the reviews on the top cleaners and ended up buying this one...and am so glad I did! My husband thought I was crazy and that it wouldn't work, but he was surprised just as much as I was!
I was learly at first. I didn't know if it would be hard to use. The assembly was easy (I did it myself), read the directions on how to use it, and then went to town! It was just as easy as vacuuming!
It got out ALL of my puppy's stains and left my rooms smelling so fresh! I didn't have to go back and forth over and over to get the stain out at all (and some of the stains were not new).
I am so pleased with this cleaner, I have a big grin on my face!
This cleaner did a great job for a great price! I wish I would have bought one years ago instead of spending all kinds of money on professional cleaning companies!"

What's great about it: Easy assembly, easy to use, professional results
What's not so great: Receptacle MUST be clamped in just right
"Bought this the day we closed on our first home--a foreclosure that needed cleaning pretty bad. I at least wanted to get the downstairs cleaned before moving in the next day. Set up was quick & easy, and the instructions are brief and easy-to-follow--and BONUS--it comes with a bottle of cleaning solution. It's a heavy machine, as it should be, and the back and forth motion does take some time. But the results were professional quality--I'm so glad I bought this for current and future use instead of spending the same amount for a company to come out one time. I got two rooms finished in 1 1/2 hrs--one was 110 sq ft & the other was 275 sq ft. The soapy water tank runs out one moment & the dirty water receptacle fills up a few minutes later, so there's lots of back and forth to the sink. I have read in other reviews that this machine is superior in that it has removable tanks--I say thank goodness. The machine did stop sucking at one point leading me to discover that the dirty water receptacle MUST be clamped in there just right. I love the way you can see the dirty water being sucked up out of the carpet on the back stroke though. Unfortunately, all that dirty goop is still in the front see-thru part, and it looks gross, but they DO give you instructions on how to clean that out. I'm ready to tackle our upstairs now...and have it smell so clean like the downstairs does. I highly recommend this machine."

What's great about it: seperate tanks, clean surge
What's not so great: motor needs to be more "heavy duty"
"This actually did a pretty good job of rug shampooing. The hotter the water the better the cleaning so before putting the hot water(and detergent) in the machine put the hot water in a microwavable container and nuke it to get it hotter. Don't go crazy on this, about 180* should do it. The problem that I experienced was the motor overheating and burning itself out. I did not misuse this so a higher quality motor would definitely take care of the problem. That or this motor was somewhat defective to begin with."

"This Stemvac works great! I had debated getting my carper cleaned professionally and I am so glad I did not, and decided to buy this and give it a try. The one thing I did realize with this machine is that when I went over the carpet with the solution it worked great, but if I let that dry then went over it again with just hot water it did WONDERS!!! My carpet in areas was BLACK and now it looks like new!! I cant believe this cleaner got my carpet looking like new again... instead of me having to hire someone to do it professionally. Highly Recommended!!"

What's great about it: Works great! Out cleans my old Bissell Pro Heat
What's not so great: Have to mix solution, attachment connections, won't work if not connected properly
"I finally got tired of my old Bissell Pro Heat just not getting the job done. I have had to order parts quite a few times in the past and it has steadily gone downhill over time. The Hoover Steam Clean spinbrushes do a better job and won't need a belt like the Bissell. I read many reviews on this product before I decided to buy it. Aside from a few quirks (If the flap on the collection tank isn't seated properly, it won't vacuum up anything) it has been a great machine and my carpets look MUCH better than before. We have kids and a dog so this machine is a necessity to clean up after the mess they leave behind. I bought this unit online for the sale price of $149 with in-store pickup. The units in the store were still labled for the full retail price, so I saved $25. If you are looking for a great machine at a great price, this is the one to buy!"

What's not so great: Stopped sucking up the water after the 4th use
"I read all of the reviews and was excited to get a decent working machine and for the first three uses it did just what I had hoped.
Now it stopped sucking up the water air blows out from the end not in and the attachments do not work.
At first I looked for a switch I thought I hit to reverse the suction but there is none and alas this Hoover turned out just like every other hoover
I do not recommend this at all."

"It does the job. Gets rid of very deep set in stains. My husband and I moved into an apartment were the rugs were absolutely disguisting. Stains everywhere... We purchased a Bissell basic steam vacc thinking it would do the job..WRONG. We then went with the Hoover.. Oh my God! Stains gone in just one swipe of the steam vacc. The only down side is that its pretty heavy. Will be a pain if you have to go up and down stairs. But you know what...its worth it and the price isnt too bad either."

"Our old Bissell was getting too expensive to keep repairing. While searching for a replacement I read the reviews on the Hoover went for it. It cleans better, picks up dog hair and takes up water-drys fast. I am happy.
The accessory hose needs a rubber band to keep in place bu that is minor."

"I have never owned a steam cleaner for my carpet, so I read a lot of reviews before I took the plunge. I decided on the Hoover SteamVac with Clean Surge and my husband and I both love it! It almost makes cleaning the carpet fun. It was very easy to put together and use. I was worried that the water containers would be too small, but that wasn't a problem at all. In fact, they were perfect - not too small that you had to exchange it too often; not too big to carry. I loved being able to see the water getting sucked up - I could tell exactly where the wettest spots were. Rentals leave behind a swamp, so that was another concern of mine. Not an issue - the carpet doesn't feel soaked and it dries pretty quickly. Also, it was evident that it was doing a great cleaning job. Overall, it does a great job and I couldn't be happier with my purchase."

"This steam cleaner exceeded my expectations. It would have cost more money to hire a professional cleaning service, and I think I got the carpet cleaner than a professional would. This was a great value! Definitely worth every penny. I couldn't believe how dirty the water was, even when I used water only for the optional rinse cycle (no carpet cleaning solution added). I have to say, I actually had fun doing this. I was also amazed at how much water the Hoover sucked back out of the carpets- they were dry in no time! I would highly recommend this steam cleaner. I wish I had gotten it sooner!"

"This steam vac is super easy to use and assemble. I did some research and this particular model has great reviews on many sites. The cleaning power was *amazing* (see before and after photos!) I was pleasantly surprised to find it even came with cleaning solution!
Dumping dirty water is super easy, unlike other models that have separate dirty/clean water tanks. I like that the tanks are completely separate, its not a "bladder" design if you will - so it's not messy at all.
Cleans phenomenally!!!"

Adding fabric softer to the water makes the carpet smells really fresh. You won't be disappointed with this purchase."

"After having owned two bissell carpet cleaners only to have the plastic bladder on them break several times and then not hold as much since they share a tank. I was ready for something else. Took a gamble on this Hoover and did our upstairs rooms. I was so impressed I came back to write a review.
First off the dump tank for the dirty water not only completely comes out of the machine but the top of that tanks comes off completely making dumping the bad water easy and rinsing the tank out easy as well. My bissells had just a little opening for this so rinsing the tank in them was a b%t^ch.
Secondly the hand tool has its own two rotating brushes. Very very important and no one seems to mention that not even best buy's description. Find that on a bissell...you won't cause none of them have it.
Last but not least it just cleans better. We have two pet stains that the super pricey bissell could never pull out that the hoover had no issues with and cranked them out as if they never were there.
So as I was using the hoover and think of all the money we spent on bissells that did not do anything I got kinda mad. I don't think I will buy bissell anything ever again and I certainty not tell any friends they can borrow my new cleaner (you know how things come back broken when lent out)."

"Just bought this to replace a slightly older Hoover. I really like the separate containers for water and cleaner, although it does seem to use lots of the cleaning solution. I have 3 kids and tons of juice spots in the living room...well, I did before this past weekend! After using this I feel beter about having my kids play on the carpet."

"We just bought this steam vac a few days ago and we used it in our apartment the past 2 days. For starters it is very simple to put together. It takes maybe 5-10 minutes to put it all together. Be sure and read instructions on how to use it and you will be fine. We ran it over our bedroom and dining room twice and we were very pleased with the results. It's not going to magically spring new life to your carpet itself but it will definately clean the dirt out of it. Being in an apartment the carpet is old and matted down in a lot of places and we didn't think it would change that and it didn't but it did clean it very well. We did the living room and hall today and we are extremely happy with this steam vac. The living room had stains and was very dirty and it looks great now. I highly recommend this if you have little kids that our still crawling around on the floor and especially for apartment renters who deal with old dirty carpet. We can't believe the filth that it picked up and to think we let our kids crawl around on that filth day after day..It's very scary and I am glad we finally decided to make this purchase. This is a very good investment for anyone to make"

What's not so great: How much solution you float through, and how frequently you change water
"Our carpets were bad--hadn't been cleaned in over a year. We used the carpet cleaner exactly how the directions stated--slowly forward, then back with solution, then forward and back to remove water. We weren't expecting great results, had used a Bissel Pro Heat before and it was awful--we were AMAZED by how well the Hoover worked!!! We went over everything twice and our carpets look almost brand new! Better than the carpet cleaner we had rented from a vaccum shop!! Will surely pay for itself shortly and was a decent price compared to all the other cleaners that probably don't even work as well! Just be ready to buy a few of those bottles of solution...we went through alot, but worth it to us!"

"I bought this SteamVac last fall after some drywall work was done in my home and there was dirt and dust everywhere. I have a bad back and could not lug a huge rental carpet cleaner up and down the stairs -- and the professional services were too expensive. I did a lot of research on this Vac and came to the conclusion that this would be the best model to purchase.
This machine has done an excellent job on a variety of rugs and carpeting in my home -- it has basically paid for itself many times already. I was shocked at how much dirt and dust this machine can remove from carpets and rugs! I wish the hand held attachment for stairs was a little more powerful (i.e. beater brush action, not suction power), but I assume it would be too overpowering for upholstery.
I have used it for nearly everything: hallway runners, stairs, car mats (works great on these), wool area rugs, etc. The only thing I have not used it for yet is upholstery fabric.
One last suggestion -- I highly recommend using the better quality Hoover carpet cleaning solutions vs. the more basic cleaner that was included with the vac. It's worth the extra few dollars."

"I read many reviews on this product before purchasing it and I must agree with most of the customers that wrote reviews. This product worked great! I have used it for about 2.5 hrs and love it so far. I have a puppy which is very playful and leaves droppings on ocassion but this product worked wonders. It will remove old spots and clean your carpet deep. I also cleaned my moms house with it (the entire house) and never had a issue or problem. My mom was amazed with all of the dirt it pulled from her carpet (muddy dirty water...ugh). She is now talking about buying her own. The only thing I noticed that I didn't like was that if you don't secure the dirty water tank it will continue to put water down but it won't pick it up. If you notice that happening just go back and snap everything down securely and it will work again perfectly. If you're looking for a good steam vac you cannot go wrong with this item."
