What's great about it: My carpet looks great!

"I was skeptical that a small carpet cleaner could do the job. But this carpet cleaner has made a believer out of me. The carpet shampoo works great. But I sometimes use just plain hot tap water and I get fantastic results. Traffic areas, pet areas, coffee/wine spills--all come clean. Worth it!"

What's great about it: Really cleans up the dirt, works well in high traffic areas, made rugs look new again!
What's not so great: a few plastic parts
"I read all of the reviews before making the purchase. The pros definitely outweighs the cons. A must if you have pets. The vacuum steamer really gets the dirt out of rugs even old stains. Adding fabric softer to the water makes the carpet smells really fresh. You won't be disappointed with this purchase."

What's great about it: easy to empty dirty water tank

"After having owned two bissell carpet cleaners only to have the plastic bladder on them break several times and then not hold as much since they share a tank. I was ready for something else. Took a gamble on this Hoover and did our upstairs rooms. I was so impressed I came back to write a review.
First off the dump tank for the dirty water not only completely comes out of the machine but the top of that tanks comes off completely making dumping the bad water easy and rinsing the tank out easy as well. My bissells had just a little opening for this so rinsing the tank in them was a b%t^ch.
Secondly the hand tool has its own two rotating brushes. Very very important and no one seems to mention that not even best buy's description. Find that on a bissell...you won't cause none of them have it.
Last but not least it just cleans better. We have two pet stains that the super pricey bissell could never pull out that the hoover had no issues with and cranked them out as if they never were there.
So as I was using the hoover and think of all the money we spent on bissells that did not do anything I got kinda mad. I don't think I will buy bissell anything ever again and I certainty not tell any friends they can borrow my new cleaner (you know how things come back broken when lent out)."

"Just bought this to replace a slightly older Hoover. I really like the separate containers for water and cleaner, although it does seem to use lots of the cleaning solution. I have 3 kids and tons of juice spots in the living room...well, I did before this past weekend! After using this I feel beter about having my kids play on the carpet."

What's great about it: Simple to put together and very easy to operate
What's not so great: Haven't found a problem with it yet
"We just bought this steam vac a few days ago and we used it in our apartment the past 2 days. For starters it is very simple to put together. It takes maybe 5-10 minutes to put it all together. Be sure and read instructions on how to use it and you will be fine. We ran it over our bedroom and dining room twice and we were very pleased with the results. It's not going to magically spring new life to your carpet itself but it will definately clean the dirt out of it. Being in an apartment the carpet is old and matted down in a lot of places and we didn't think it would change that and it didn't but it did clean it very well. We did the living room and hall today and we are extremely happy with this steam vac. The living room had stains and was very dirty and it looks great now. I highly recommend this if you have little kids that our still crawling around on the floor and especially for apartment renters who deal with old dirty carpet. We can't believe the filth that it picked up and to think we let our kids crawl around on that filth day after day..It's very scary and I am glad we finally decided to make this purchase. This is a very good investment for anyone to make"

What's great about it: Really gets carpets clean--enough said!!
What's not so great: How much solution you float through, and how frequently you change water
"Our carpets were bad--hadn't been cleaned in over a year. We used the carpet cleaner exactly how the directions stated--slowly forward, then back with solution, then forward and back to remove water. We weren't expecting great results, had used a Bissel Pro Heat before and it was awful--we were AMAZED by how well the Hoover worked!!! We went over everything twice and our carpets look almost brand new! Better than the carpet cleaner we had rented from a vaccum shop!! Will surely pay for itself shortly and was a decent price compared to all the other cleaners that probably don't even work as well! Just be ready to buy a few of those bottles of solution...we went through alot, but worth it to us!"

What's not so great: I wish the hand tool for stairs/upholstry was a little more powerful, but it's alright
"I bought this SteamVac last fall after some drywall work was done in my home and there was dirt and dust everywhere. I have a bad back and could not lug a huge rental carpet cleaner up and down the stairs -- and the professional services were too expensive. I did a lot of research on this Vac and came to the conclusion that this would be the best model to purchase.
This machine has done an excellent job on a variety of rugs and carpeting in my home -- it has basically paid for itself many times already. I was shocked at how much dirt and dust this machine can remove from carpets and rugs! I wish the hand held attachment for stairs was a little more powerful (i.e. beater brush action, not suction power), but I assume it would be too overpowering for upholstery.
I have used it for nearly everything: hallway runners, stairs, car mats (works great on these), wool area rugs, etc. The only thing I have not used it for yet is upholstery fabric.
One last suggestion -- I highly recommend using the better quality Hoover carpet cleaning solutions vs. the more basic cleaner that was included with the vac. It's worth the extra few dollars."

"I read many reviews on this product before purchasing it and I must agree with most of the customers that wrote reviews. This product worked great! I have used it for about 2.5 hrs and love it so far. I have a puppy which is very playful and leaves droppings on ocassion but this product worked wonders. It will remove old spots and clean your carpet deep. I also cleaned my moms house with it (the entire house) and never had a issue or problem. My mom was amazed with all of the dirt it pulled from her carpet (muddy dirty water...ugh). She is now talking about buying her own. The only thing I noticed that I didn't like was that if you don't secure the dirty water tank it will continue to put water down but it won't pick it up. If you notice that happening just go back and snap everything down securely and it will work again perfectly. If you're looking for a good steam vac you cannot go wrong with this item."

"The Hoover SteamVac took longer to assemble than I had predicted due to the unclear instructions and impossible to see diagrams. It also is not of very rugged construction. But after the nightmare of assembly was over, the happiness began.
I was overjoyed and could not believe the amount of dirt the SteamVac pulled out of my carpets. Also, it completely elliminated stains and odors from cat urine, doggy messes, and water damage.
I also used the attachable upholstery tool for my couches and was very suprised that it also eliminated cat odors.
The only feature that I disliked was the automatic recovery tank shut-off feature which is annoying and unnecessary. This stops the brushes from turning and emanates an unbearable sound when the recovery tank is full with dirty water. I think people can visually figure out when the tank is full. What the directions don't mention is that you have to keep the Clean Solution tank full. If you only fill it up a third or halfway, the automatic shut-off kicks in every thirty seconds. Very annoying!
So have someone assemble the Hoover SteamVac for you and always keep the clean solution tank full and you will have a happy stress-free shampoo-fest!"

"Let me first say that this is one of the greatest home appliances that I own. I moved into an apartment with wall to wall carpet and JUST got a 7 week old puppy. Needless to say my carpet has become heavily stained with puppy "leavings" so I thought i would invest in a good steam vac. I read the reviews on this one and just had to get it. The 5 brushes do such a good job of scrubbing the carpet that going over an area just once is usually enough. I also love the Power Surge feature which releases twice as much cleaning solution for those really tough stains. After doing my entire apartment the carpets look better than when I moved in and they had been professionally cleaned. I am extremely pleased with this purchase!"

"This is a great product. I vacuum very often but was blown away by how much grit and grime this machine sucked out of my carpets. It's kind of shocking. I used it on my sofa and loveseat and they look fresh and new again. My carpet is fairly new so I can't say that it removes stains but it certainly revived the pile and the carpet looks like it was installed today--not 6 months ago. My only criticism is that it's kind of a bulky machine so it's difficult to use on the stairs. I used the hose and brush attachment to clean the stairs but the hose is short so I had to try to balance the machine on a stair above or below where I was cleaning. It's a little heavy to push around but I'm not strong and was able to do a large living room, dining room, and flight of stairs before becoming worn out."

"I've used this machine for about 4 months for home carpet cleaning, upholstery, and cleaned 2 car's interiors top to bottom. The results were impressive. It is very effective in all modes (floor, upholstery, using various attachments). With carpets it did very well even in extremely dirty conditions on a car that hadn't been cleaned in 11 years. The car interior looked like new after cleaning. It is somewhat cumbersome to set up the machine for upholstery and car cleaning though. You will need to read the instructions as it's not intuitive where to connect the adapters and hoses. I ran into a problem where a plastic tab broke off after the 2nd use of the upholstery adapter. It's not a fatal problem though, as the machine works even without the tab in place, but the upholstery adapter now needs to be positioned carefully on installation, without the tab to guide it . If you want a machine that will do all I've described above, this is the one to buy. It is very powerful and effective, but be gentle when installing and removing the upholstery adapter."

What's great about it: SO easy to assemble and use, carpet dries very quickly, lightweight and easy to manuever
What's not so great: Needed to refill solution and dump dirty water several times throughout the cleaning.
"I purchased this steam cleaner based on it's rating on bestbuy.com and I am So glad I did. It is extremely easy to use! The results are out of this world. It looks like I hired a professional carpet cleaning service, but - what's better is my carpet dried 10x faster! Also- about 10 minutes after I was done cleaning my living room carpet my 3 year old spilled her lemonade . . . I took out my steam cleaner and vacuumed right over the spill and it was as if it never happened! :) If you are looking for a steam cleaner or have little ones, this is a must!! I wish I would have discovered it sooner, but I'm glad we made the investment."

"I must admit that I was so excited to receive my new steam cleaner that I rushed home to put it together and started using it immediately. I just glanced over the instructions and soon found out the importance of reading them carefully. I was not using the cleaner correctly and holding the clean surge button down to long. This caused one of the brushes to come loose. I took the machine back to Best Buy and they replaced it for me. So I sat down and read the directions like everyone should. I started with the playroom since it has the worst stains. I'm talking major spills from my toddler and pet stains from our dog. This machine worked like MAGIC! I did go over the stubborn areas a few times but they are no longer an eye sore. I also used the fabric softener trick as instructed on another review and my carpets smell fresh and look brand new. This product is a must have for owners with small children and pets."

"This cleaner did an amazing job removing the pet stains from the carpet. My roommate brought a new puppy in the house and we've had 4 dogs continually marking their territory! Renting the Rug Doctor every few weeks was starting to add up. I didn't expect much from this model, and cannot believe the results. Using just water the stains were removed from the carpet in one cleaning. And the rug really was dry in less than an hour!
There are complaints about the cheap plastic parts. It's impossible to find any product this day that isn't comprised of cheap plastic parts for under a few thousand dollars. Don't let that dissuade you. This Hoover is completely worth the $179."

My only negative is that the foot that holds the vacuum upright broke. It is made of a pretty cheap plastic. I will have to take it about 45 miles to the closest authorized service center to get it replaced (still under warranty.)"

What's not so great: The bottom tank is a little awkward to remove but I wouldn't let that hinder you from buying one.
"After reading the great reviews we decided to buy one and we are glad we did. It was easy to put together, easy to use and the results were very rewarding. We took one reviewer's advise and used oxi clean which we added to "awesome" cleaner insetead of using the manufacturer's solution, and as we cleaned, the dirt was gone....We added a teaspoon of fabric softener to the rinse water ( another reviewer suggested that too!) and the carpet is softer and smells wonderful. I can't wait to do the rest of the house. This was my first experience cleaning carpets and if I can do it, anyone else can too!"

"We have a dog and two cats ,and I have paid over $100 to have the house steamcleaned by professionals...so at that price, I decided to pick up one of these steam vacs to see if it would do the job. I researched a good bit, and decided on this one based on the reviews and its cost compared to some other models. Set-up was fairly easy as was actually using the vac itself (if you follow the directions of course). I noted that some people stated that it is easy to break and has plastics, but honestly all of the steam vacs I looked at were like this. The machine did a great job of cleaning the floors and I really couldn't believe how much dirt it sucked up-the carpets look great again. It took about an hour to dry completely. I would recommend one of these steam vacs - it will pay for itself in a couple of uses."
