What's great about it: I love Firefly.

Phenomenal Sci-Fi series

What's great about it: Captivating story, Intriguing characters
What's not so great: Show was cancelled after the first season
"I, like so many other, first watched this show after it had already been scheduled for removal from the network. Up until that time, my thinking had been 'Cowboy Sci-Fi? I don't think so'. Now I've joined the saddened legions of viewers that regret not being able to see any more episodes.
There have been other excellent sci-fi tv shows (Star Trek - Next Generation, Battle Star Gallactica). Firefly is not these, is something else unique that pulls you in from the pilot show.
Yes, due in large part to fan demand, they made a movie (Serenity) to help all of us struggling with Firefly withdrawals. It did not satisfy, but instead gave you 1 final taste of greatness before sending fans spiraling down into bitter remorse.
On second thought, don't watch Firefly. The high it gives you is not worth the crash on the other side. Ok it is, but the crash sucks."

What's great about it: Serenity, Malcomb Reynolds, Kaylee, and the Crew....
What's not so great: NOT a single thing !
"We were always Firefly fans, and were sad when the corporate heads, (I think they are at NBC now), discontinued the series. Joss Whedon created a smart sci-fi like he always does. There was not a lot of blood, gore and social promiscuity, but the each episode made you think. It was a great series in which to escape. Anyone who loved the series will love these DVDs."

What's great about it: cast synergy, cinamatography

"Fox did a fantastic job of allowing creator Joss Whedon's pipedream of a cowboy story in space. Nathan Fillion revitalizes his career here (without Firefly, we would have no Dr. Horrible! or Castle), and Adam Baldwin presents a tough guy that loves his mother like a fat kid loves cake.
The visuals are top-notch and the sound design is superb. If Fox had been thinking clearly, they would have granted this show at least 2 more seasons to round out story arcs with this fantastic cast and terrific director."

Great Series for Western Lovers and Sci -Fi Lovers

What's great about it: Great characters, plots, overarching themes.
What's not so great: The series was never finished, and given a bad movie to cap it off.
"If you've never seen Firefly, Fox's great Sci-Fi show, I wouldn't be surprised. The show was not advertised at all, and they dropped it right after it started because no one watched it. I think if this show would have kept going it would have been a lot more than an underground hit.
Anyway, if you like Sci-Fi then you will probably love this show. If you like western themes this show will also be for you. It takes place in the far future, and follows a group of smugglers on their passings with warlord like scumbags and the giant republic ships who ignore the less rich planets. It really makes you root for the group, even if the things they are doing would be considered bad. The show has lots of action, but also has a lighter side and will make you laugh at times. There is also a lot of character development throughout the series.
The good thing about this is the whole series fits in one box, the bad thing is some of the plot is cut off when they pulled the show from the airwaves. If you go in expecting to be disappointed by an abrupt ending you will like it.
Don't waste your time with Serenity. The movie picks up where the show left off, but changed the feel to a Sci-Fi horror, and ruins a lot of story that should be resolved but now can't because of killed characters. If you have to see it, I'd say rent, because it is a disservice to the show in my opinion."

"Firefly was just put on the wrong network. SciFi is great and plenty of people loved it but none of SciFi originals are properly marketed. If this was on a major network, it would be a household name today. Excellent show. Great comic relief. Impressive film-making with beautiful backgrounds. Also has a great theme song you quickly begin to love."

What's great about it: Joss Whedon IS A GENIUS - FireFly & Serenity are AWESOME journeys.
What's not so great: The MPAA sucks, the DMCA sucks, they are greedy associations.
"I love the Firefly TV series & the Serenity Movie.
The DVD Extras on BOTH are amazing & I'm not one to watch DVD extras either.
These really got me hooked on Joss Whedon.

What's great about it: Interesting story, good character development, good cast
What's not so great: In terms of budget it kind of shows from time to time.
"Firefly is a good sci-fi-ish series that was unfortunately canceled.
Good show to get a lady friend to watch because all you have to do is mention that it is the same creator as Buffy and a light way to introduce them to the science fiction genre.
The characters in the show are complex and conflicted (although too much so at times) and the actors that were chosen do a very good job of developing them.
The Chinese pronunciation though is pretty horrible."
