Don't buy for Windows Vista Machine.

What's great about it: Modem and Router in one, reset button on the back.
What's not so great: Not designed correctly for all-in-one
"Have read that some people who bought this gateway have had success, however none here.
Wireless connection kept crashing almost daily (sometimes three times a day) and having to be reset because my notebook PC uses Windows Vista, other PC's on my network - 98SE and XP.
If running Windows Vista, find anyother modem and router. Currently using both this product as a modem only and a seperate Linksys Router, ended up being a manual setup to do this. Like Linksys support, but not this product."

What's great about it: Works great wired
What's not so great: Drops internet connection during large downloads
"Very disappointed, bought this thing a few months ago, and mainly used it as a wired router. Finally bought a laptop last week, and now that i'm actually making larger downloads from the wireless end of things, it consistently drops the connection during a download. Linksys seems to not want to fix the problem whatsoever. so long linsys, here i come netgear."

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE WITH COMCAST!!!

What's great about it: the item is great... every feature on it is just what you are looking for!!! unless you are going to connect to comcast.
What's not so great: as soon as comcast upgrades your firmware your gateway is as good as trash...
"on may 12, 2006 comcast decided they were going to do their own thing and upgrade the firmware on the gateway... well... now!!! guess what if your router got the upgrade you will constantly get booted off ur wireless connection and the modem will reset with out receiving a signal... if you are going to be connecting to comcast just stick to a router and modem!!! thats the best way to go... by the way comcast doesnt support the firmware issue they will tell you to call linksys and linksys will tell you to call comcast back since they are the only one who are connected directly to the modem and are the only ones able to downgrade or upgrade firmware!!!"

What's great about it: All in one cable modem.
What's not so great: Only accepts 8 character or less admin password change
"I have version 2 of this product. While I have not had any issues with downloading files or intermittent loss of internet connectivity. I was very disappointed when I found out that I could only set admin passwords that were less than 8 characters in length. If you attempted to set one that was longer the unit would appear to accept the password change, but when you attempted to log back in it would not let you in without doing a hard reset back to the factory defaults. Very frustrating. So as long as you have a strong password that is less than 8 characters in length then you should have no problems. I haven't."

What's great about it: None noted
What's not so great: Expensive and doesnt work
"DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!! It drops its connection, sometimes 20-30 times a day, only way to get it going again is to power it off and then let it sync back up with the internet. Twice in the last 3 months its dumped its settings, went back to the default settings. I've had to reload all the settings to get it working again. Linksys is of no help in fixing it. This weekend I'm going to buy something else, and this junk is going in the dumpster, I'll never buy anything from them again!"

What's great about it: It fit nicely with my other linksys equipment
What's not so great: Only one antenna, uses a different antenna than my upgraded antenna for v1 of this product, cannot be updat and crashes
"If you desire a reliable connection when using your high speed connection, avoid this cable modem. I had WCG200 Version 1, which worked great with the major flaw that i could not be flashed by the end user. So when my cable provider CableOne went to DOCSIS 2.0, I had to buy the WCG200 2.0. Fine... First disappointment was when I found it only had one antenna on the new WCG200 Version 2.0 (which is not the one pictured here). They also changed antenna ports - so my 6dbi linksys antennas I bought for version 1 don't fit. But most disappointing - it has a problem, it crashes frequently and needs to be power cycled. I learned that this is a frequent problem on linksys's forums, but there is no user flash option. Guess they just want me to buy version 3 later. I've been a loyal linksys purchaser 8 years - and this is my last time to trust linksys. Perhaps Cisco has finally dumbed them down."

Better off getting a dedicated Modem

What's great about it: none
What's not so great: To get stable connection you must disable everything but the cable modem
"If you Purchased this and got stuck with it . . . Disable DHCP FIREWALL NAT Wireless Almost everything that you can Disable until it becomes a normal Cable Modem . . . then go buy a Wireless modem and connect it to it so that you can actually use your internet . . . Turning Wireless On will cause constant connection Drops even when transferring large files within your network. . . the router inside this thing is GARBAGE. atleast this thing costs about the same as a standard modem so theres really no loss if you wanted to use your own modem... . NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW A LOT ABOUT MODEMS AND ROUTERS. . . if you dont know anything about modems and routers dont touch this one it will cause you nothing but problems.
In conclusion the flaw seems to be with the DhCP host and transfer protocols that this thing uses... as well as possibly Mac address assignment"

What's great about it: Modem/wireless router/firewall all in one box.
What's not so great: None that I can think of.
"I bought my gateway about two years ago when it first came out. It was easy to set up and navigate inside the menu’s to set all the security protocols. I’ve never had a problem with it, and this unit also has an incredible range around my townhouse unit. I’ve also installed five of these units for friends and they’ve never had any problems.
Reading some of the negative reviews has surprised me a little bit, particularly the ones stating the unit drops service a lot, but I think I know the answer to those problems because of a recent install I just did. I installed this gateway about two months ago for my friend, and recently it was sporadically or not connecting to the internet through Comcast cable service. Called Comcast’s technical support and had to have their service tech come out, the tech found that there was a very weak signal coming to the unit. The Comcast tech replaced all couplings and connectors from the utility pole coming into the house, and all splitters to 2Ghz units (she had a 500-650Mhz 4-way splitter) at no charge to her. Once all that work was done, the unit instantly connected to the internet and has been going strong ever since. So make sure your coax cabling is good and the splitters are at least 1Ghz or higher in your cabling.
I really recommend this unit.

"1 year old and not a single glitch. Only lost my connection one time (the second day it was in operation). So of coarse I gathered and repackaged everything and grabbed my receipt and headed out the door and noticed a tree had fallen onto the utility lines down the street.OOPS!! Put it all back together and its been problem free ever since. Its range is fine enough for me to relax out back with the laptop by the pool."

Problems with large downloads on wireless

What's great about it: All in one package
What's not so great: All in one package
"During most use, this was a great idea. To have both my modem and wireless in one easy package. But when we started to download large files, we found that the internet connection would drop out.
After doing a lot of searching on the internet, we found that many people had this problem. If you are using the wireless router and downloading large files, the internet connection breaks and the modem has to be reset.
To fix it, we stopped using the wireless router and just use this as our cable modem. We have not had a problem since. Kind of sad that in the end we had to buy a different wireless router and connect it to this one in order to avoid the problems."

Worst Linksys!!!

"Had this thing replaced twice. All three have the same problem. The WCG200 drops connections constantly. Mine was doing it several hundred times a day. Do a search on the WCG200 and you'll will find many dissatisfied consumers. I now have a very expensive paperweight (couldn't return the last one).... Cisco should be embarassed to have their name on this one."

Great Product and Excellent Service

"I have had this wireless G cable gateway for at least three years and it's still going strong. It's great having a router and cable modem in one unit. The only time I have had a problem was due to a weak cable signal that had nothing to do with this unit. Linksys offers many different ways to resolve any issues that may arise. Since I know just a little about computers, I really appreciate the customer support available both on-line and via telephone. The people with whom I have spoken were always pleasant and patient with me. I recommend this product."

"I have been using it for about 2 years. No problem with the cable modem, just forget it is there, it is that simple. Great flexibility on the wireless side. I use WEP and MAC address filtering. Not a problem either.
I also use all 4 ethernet ports, never had a problem."
