I just bought this router to replace an old 802.11b router that I have had for years. Basic setup is quick and easy with the included software. For more technically savvy users, there is a web server built in where you can do advanced configuration like port triggering, WAP & WAP2 security, and DMZ set-up. Coverage is great. I installed it in a fairly central location on the second floor of my 3600 square foot house, and I get at least a "good" signal everywhere in the house and on the patio. We have 2 laptops with built-in "G" wireless. Both work great with the Linksys router. I have a 6 Mb DSL connection for Internet access. I ran speed tests wired and wireless - no difference. If you are looking for a good router that will leverage the built-in 802.11G wireless in most laptops, this one is a great choice.

I had two Linksys WRT54GS routers before I finally got one that worked properly. I had read reveiews on Best Buy.com about there being a bad batch of these out there and I found that to be true.
The first two I had worked upon initial set up. However, when I turned on my computer, modem and router the next morning, the router was undetectable...or rather, the system said it was detecting a non-Linksys router. What???? I uninstalled Linksys EasyLink Advisor, reinstalled it, set up the router again and it worked until the next time I shut down the power. It never worked again.
Thankfully, Best Buy cheerfully exchanged both routers for me (be sure to get in there for exchange within 30 days of purchase) and I'm pleased to say that I haven't had to reset or reconfigure the router even once in eight days.
What's great about it: Works great if you get a good one
What's not so great: None, if it works properly
I would recommend this to a friend!

I bought this router to connect my playstation 3 to the internet. Both my pc and ps3 have continually lost connectivity to the internet. Prior to the router i had no issues with internet connectivity, so i know it is not the internet provider.
What's great about it: cheap
What's not so great: connection

the wrt54g series of routers have been around for awhile, and with good reason. the linksys router sets up easily out of the box. simply plug in internet line and whatever devices you'd like to have wired and you're off. both a laptop and a desktop pc with a wireless card picked up full singles going through multiple walls at distance (thanks to wireless g routing).
this model boasts some advanced features for those who are inclined to use them. it's fairly simple to set up wireless encryption, though anyone who brings a laptop or wireless device over will need the password (which in the end makes your network less secure). it's also possible to limit who can wirelessly access your network using a mac address filter. once again, setting up multiple devices will take some time as you have to find their mac addresses and register them with the router. this is my preferred method as it lets me have absolute control of who is accessing my network at any given time. i'm running a desktop pc, ps3, xbox 360, and DS wirelessly without any problems. the other big feature here is QoS which allows you to prioritise bandwidth allocation to specific devices and applications. for example you might want to limit the bandwidth of your gaming consoles so that pc downloads and streaming media run unimpeded.
this router works well with windows vista, and for most applications using port forwarding is unnecessary. unless you're playing some obscure game that uses extremely odd ports for incoming/outgoing connections you will not need to use this feature.
other thoughts.
this router is perfect for those who want to set up a small home network over dsl connections. if you're looking at speeds beyond 3mpbs (cable or fios) you'd be better off going with N capable routers, as the added wireless bandwidth allows wireless devices to enjoy full speeds. if you're using this wirelessly on say an 8mbps line, this router will bottleneck your speeds. oh yes, update the firmware as soon as you get this. i had some odd problems with the router firmware randomly changing/forgetting my admin username/password. this led to problems, as i would have to manually reset the router which wipes all saved settings (encryption, mac filter, port forwarding etc.). after updating to the latest firmware most of these problems have been resolved.
What's great about it: wireless works well, the sky is the limit for wired connections
What's not so great: spotty performance prior to firmware update
I would recommend this to a friend!

I picked this router up to get my Wii and PS3 online from the same access point. Setup was extremely easy, probably took me 20 minutes total. After entering the router info into my Wii and PS3 I had both online easily within an hour of taking this out of the box. The Wii and PS3 have had no problems connecting to the internet since.

Very easy to set-up. The CD about takes itself out of the box, puts it in your computer, you type a few things, hook up the wiring when it says to what it says. and POOOOFFFFFF.....majic. I havent had any problems. I set it up in about 20-30 minutes.
What's great about it: Easy to set-up, house is wireless

Worked well out of the box for 10 weeks. I started having trouble with dropped signals and widely varying speeds. Toward the end I was rebooting the router 2 times a day or more. Returning this to the manufacturer is too time consuming: considering that my entire household would need to be off-line while waiting.
What's great about it: the linksys advisor software is easy to use
What's not so great: died after 3 months

Set up and use was easy. I only encountered difficulty when using the provided Linksys EasyLink Advisor. Things were going well enough - but it couldn't find my internet connection - but I think it had more to do with the fact that I have AT&T and needed to 'bridge' the modem, so I can't fault Linksys or the router for that. Once I got it up and running with the help of AT&T Tech Support it has been smooth sailing since! And for those wondering if you can use this router with XBox Live - I have been up and running for over three months now!
What's great about it: Easy to set up and use
What's not so great: Trouble connecting with AT&T DSL

Don't get me wrong: this is a good router. And do not worry about it not being an "N" standard -- most people do not need this. However, be aware that the manufacturer has changed the internal OS and reduced the memory (RAM and Flash) in versions 5 and higher. And if you are to buy a new one today, this v8+ is what you will get. This limits the flexibility of the router and makes it much more difficult to upgrade -- lowering its value. I do not recommend buying this new, but if you have a friend willing to part with his v2-4, then get it.
What's great about it: Easy setup, powerful coverage
What's not so great: Current version is limiting, large footprint
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this Linksys SpeedBooster 802.11g Wireless Broadband Router to replace my old one. What i like about this one is that you are able to set up a password in order for people to connect there wi-fi devices. This limits to only people you want sharing your internet, unlike my old Linksys 802.11g Wireless Broadband Router.
What's not so great: Takes a little time to set up the password

I bought this when I moved into my new house. I had the same unit, but without SpeedBooster at my parents house. I do find this to read higher speeds when doing a speed test. The range is pretty good as well. I can go out to my garage with my laptop to tune my Harley and no loss of speed or signal. All in all, I am happy with my purchase and have recommended this unit to others.

I've purchased this product several weeks ago. The setup, even for a novice at networking was very simple with easy to follow instructions. I have had no interference with my 2.4 ghz. phone which was a concern. Ihave had no problems with connecting or making my network secure. Plenty of speed to meet my needs. I would highly recommend this product.
What's great about it: Easy setup. Competitive pricing. Great support and instructions.
What's not so great: None at this time.

Overall, Linksys really came through with a great piece of equipment. The wireless-G router with speedbooster can deliver some great speeds and constant reliability. I have the router in a room on the first floor of my house, while I have my wireless desktop computer on the second. I get a "good" or "very good connection" all the time and even without the "excellent" connection, I have gotten some download speeds of 700Kb/sec. The wireless security on the machine is also very high quality. It is easy to use for a novice and challenging enough for a pro to play around with.
The only bad part about this router is that the more walls and ceilings that separate your router and wireless computer, the more the signal diminishes. This should not be a surprise, but I was hoping to put the router in the basement with the rest of my racks, but I had to move it up one floor to increase the connectivity.
This is a great router for a smaller home or an apartment. I would highly recommend this over many other brands out there. Go out today and get yourself this Linksys router, you will not be disappointed.
What's great about it: Great speeds, ease of use, and sleak look
What's not so great: Range is not as good if walls or floors seperate router and computer
I would recommend this to a friend!

My previous Linksys router died after 4 years and this model had similar function, plus some new ones. I tried the automatic router configuration CD but it failed to detect the router. This did not surprise me as I had the same problem with the previous one on a COMCAST ISP. COMCAST requires this. Call their help desk - they are usually very helpful. The main issue is to clone the MAC address of computer into the router. This is easily accomplished via your web browser (type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar). Have the instruction manual (on the CD) open - follow instructions)). Once I cloned the MAC address and saved the settings (Make sure to also change the password to access the router!) it worked great. This model has plenty of good features for a wired/wireless B/G network. The router allows you to be very geek and tweak all your setting OR go with the standard. Wireless security ranges from none (open) to WPA2 enterprise.
What's great about it: Good functions and low cost
What's not so great: Auto-configuration CD didn't work
