Has connection problems

"In the past Linksys has been the rock solid choice in routers. Unfortunately, my experience with this router hasn't been stellar. After research on the net, it seems that the v.7 version of this has some changes that have led to a lot of users having a problem. After running for anywhere from a couple hours to a couple of days, the router will be unable to see the cable modem and you will not be able to connect to the internet, even though everything seems to be working right. The solution is to unplug the router and plug it back in again and then everything is fine again until the next time the problem occurs. This gets annoying quickly. On the upside, the modem is incredibly easy to set up and works great except for this problem. Basically just plug in the wires, pop in the disk and go. However, I can't really recommend the v.7 series of this modem due to the disconnecting."

One of the most reliable wireless routers!

"I've installed this router at home and for many of my friends. It is one of the most reliable low cost wireless routers available. I find it to be much more reliable than similar offerings from D-Link. Also, if the wireless range of this router is not enough (thick walls, basements, or very large houses), you can unscrew the antenna from the back and buy an upgraded one that will give you substantially more range for about $10-$15. Note that if you do upgrade to a larger antenna, unscrew BOTH factory antennas and just replace one because the router isn't using both antennas, it's just using the one with the best signal, and if you have two different strength antennas, you're asking for problems."

"This is the best investment I've made for our computers. It was very easy to set up and has a strong signal for my son's laptop. He can go anywhere in the house, sit in the front yard or on the back deck and no signal problem or speed issues. Great product hands down. Thanks Linksys."

"I recently bought this router to use with my school laptop. For my medium-sized apartment (~950 sq ft), it keeps full signal no matter where I go. Set up was a cinch (took all of 7 minutes max), although my roommate had set up this same router for his parents not long ago. I've been pretty impressed with how fast the router is with our cable connection. I haven't seen anything less than 54 Mbps. Great speed, reliable signal, would definitely recommend this router!"

Dont waste your money

"I got this less than a year ago. and it has crashed so many times its not even funny.
I also have it in the middle of my house on a high surface like it says and i cant even get signal in my bedroom. When you do get a signal it takes like 3 min. to acquire the address.
Go for netgear or belkin."

"Before this router, I used a DLink. I had the worst trouble setting up and keeping up the Dlink router.
This thing is a breeze! Im not a really knowledgable person when it comes to setting up a wireless connection but I had no trouble with this thing.
It also has GREAT range. I use it for my XBox 360 and a wireless laptop. I've tested and can even get a strong signal out in my driveway."

"I purchased this unit about 3 months ago. It had a very easy set up compared to what you used to have to go through on the old ones. It is pretty much plug in and your up and running. The data transfer seems very good as well. I have noticed no loss in speed from a direct connection vs through the router.
It mostly has run without issues, and I say mostly because I have experienced a few times where my connection stops at the router. My wife often leaves the computer on overnight, and once and a while when I try to get on the next day the internet connection is held up at the router. I have had to reset it about a half dozen times in the last three months.
I don't know if it is random, if it is caused by the computer being on overnight, or something else. It has worked flawlessly other than this small issue, which has been no problem at all."

Initial Problems

"I had a few initial problems with the router. I don't have that much experience with routers, so I was at a loss for what to do. I was trying to connect the second computer to the network and it wouldn't work. I tried contacting linksys customer support but they weren't very helpful. I eventually brought the router back to bestbuy and replaced it with a new one. Within 10 minutes of setting up the new router it was up and running. I think my initial problem was just an isolated incident, and I am pleased with how the router works now."

"I purchased this product about two years ago and its been great. Set-up was a little difficult but I called linksys customer service and I was promptly up and running. I have comcast internet and two Dell desktops and a dell laptop on my network. Recently had a slight problem with slowness, called comcast-needed to upgrade to the lastest firmware for my router. Now its quite fast and no problems since upgrading my firmware. Just remember to check for system upgrades on linksys website periodily. I am buying this product for my daughter. I highly reommend."

"i would not buy this product after what i have been through. this router has been nothing but problems for me. it repeatedly drops the signal and disconnects. i have had the original router returned to the manufacturer and replaced because it wouldn't work right. the new one so far is not much better. i have spent hours on hold with poor and unsuccessful responses to problems by phone and internet support from across the world. maybe it was just bad luck, but i have been very disappointed with this product from the start and would not buy again."

"This device had more firmware and software problems than any wireless router I have ever used. The device renamed the IP address consistently when the computer was restarted and would not connect to any of the computers. The customer help line was useless and took several hous to reach. Do not buy this product if you want a product that will work without a lot of hassle."
