What's great about it: beautiful songs both vocally and instrumentally
What's not so great: some songs take time to get used to
I was blown away by this album. In my opinion it is Muse's best. This is a must have for Muse fans. It combines many musical elements in it and each song is something new and unique unlike some albums where it feels like you are listening to the same song over and over. Matthew Bellamy's voice is amazing and within the first listen you will be able to tell why I give it so much praise. This band knows how to rock with songs like "Hysteria" and "stockholm Syndrome" but they can also deliver those slow but powerful songs like "Sing For Absolution." This cd is definately worth a listen.

What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: Barely anything
Muse is my favorite band of all time. I have and love each and every one of their CDs. Absolution, in particular, is the best CD I've ever heard. If you like anything from Radiohead, People in Planes, or classical, you'll love Muse. The lead vocalist, guitarist, pianist, and songwriter - Matt Bellamy - is one of the best around. His vocals reach high and low, especially high (which resembles Thom Yorke of Radiohead) and plays guitar like Slash, if not, better. The drummer, Dominic Howard, is also a very good drummer.
As for the album, my favorites are...
Blackout: A very good, melancholy piece of work that, with even the smallest amount of lyrics, can still move you in such an amazing way.
Sing for Absolution: One of the singles that came out, along with a very stylish music video, the song makes you want to take a trip to space - which Muse so often does.
Stockholm Syndrome: Another single, and the first song I ever heard by Muse, it's one of the best hard rock songs I've ever heard. It's a song that resembles Deftones' style, but in a very Muse-like way. The guitar, piano, and drums are all so brilliant.
Time is Running Out/ Hysteria: Two of Muse's hottest songs and probably their most popular songs. The guitar and mood of each songs make you feel exactly what the titles say. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hysteria on Guitar Hero or something sometime soon.
I recommend this CD fully to anyone who likes rock, classical, or even a little techno.

Without a doubt this was the best album of 2004 and easily ranks as one of the best albums I've ever purchased. Their next album Black Holes and Revelations is extremely good but not quite up to this level. I recommend buying them both at the same time.
