What's great about it: Easy to use, quiet, sensor is excellent
What's not so great: I have no issues with this machine
"I bought this unit due to its size and features. I find this to be an excellent machine, well made and easy to use. The pre-program options are great. For example: the beverage one touch heats 1 or multiple cups to the right drinking temperature every time. I replaced a Jenn-Air machine and this new GE is vastly superior.
In my opinion, you can't make a better choice for the money."

What's great about it: Full size capacity, but not too big. Looks sharp. Works great.
"We bought this unit specifically because we could put it in an upper cabinet for a built in look without the built in price. Full size functionality with a slimmer design. We use it multiple times a day for everything from pop corn to defrosting meat to steaming vegetables for our large family. It has never failed. I like the timer feature and it also beeps at you until you open the door to remove the food you forgot about. We plan to buy another for our basement kitchenette."

What's great about it: pops popcorn okay
What's not so great: doesn't sound like it's solidly built, broke with less than 5 months of use
"This microwave was a gift in January and before I had a chance to use it, I left town for 3 months. When I returned & initially began using it, I was disappointed in how flimsy it sounded; especially when closing the door. Sometimes the door needs to be shut hard to actually close. The turntable sounds like it's hitting the sides and now it's just broken. It stopped cooking. If I could have used it in the beginning, I would have exchanged it for another brand within the 1st 30 days. It just doesn't sound like it's solidly built."

Very disappointed

What's great about it: Looks great and easy to use.
What's not so great: Jerky turntable and doesn't last long
"I've had this microwave just barely a year, long enogh for the warranty to expire, and it's dead.
While it worked, it worked great with the exception of the jerky turntable. I never really figured out the sensor cooking function, it never cooked my food completely.
For a GE repairman to even look at your microwave it's $75 and then you still have to pay for parts and labor. That's already half of the purchase price. So, I'm stuck buying a new microwave after only a year and I am not happy about.
This experience has left a bad taste in my mouth and I will not purchase another GE product, they can't be counted on to last."

What's great about it: Alot of Room, Sensor Cook, One button Operation, Easy to clean
What's not so great: Stainless Steel phenomenom, Your fingerprints show, but its easily cleanable
"I purchased this microwave about 3 years ago, no complaints whatsoever. It has preformed beautifully. you basically just hit the corresponding button for which you want to cook and it senses the humidity level, and magically, poof, your food is ready. its I think 1200 watts, from what I understand, if its about 1000 watts, its powerful, which is what you want, of course. It looks beautiful on the countertop, I have gotten compliments. It will cook something very fast and very hot, due to the high watts. And the coolest feature I think I like is the sensor cook button. You literally put your food into a container and crack the lid, so the sensor can sense the mositure level in the food, close the door, and hit SENSOR COOK, and wait for the food to be ready. it tests, until ultimately it just pops up some random number based on calculations of how much mositure is in your food, its all very technical, and frankly I am too ignorant on the subject to tell you whats going on, but what i do know is that the thing works. If you want a strong, efficent, very well built, quality microwave and have money to spend, buy this one, you will like it."

What's great about it: different functions and ease of use
What's not so great: life span is very short
"I bought one of these after my 20+ year old sharp microwave died. Loved everything about it except that right after 1 year passed..it just quit working. So...I bought another as the warranty was out. Thought I just happened to get a lemon. Now..1 year and 1 month after purchase ,the turntable mechanism broke (it did not have a heavy load on it!) The unit still works, but I have to manually stop and turn the food now. There has to be a better built microwave out there."

"Too loud, makes too much noise. We moved and needed a microwave, this one looks good, but sound is the worst. I would not recommend getting this one. Very disappointed with GE in this product"

What's great about it: Loved everything for the first 6 months
What's not so great: Broken after six months
"We loved this microwave, it worked great. It cooked food very well, it had a little problem with over thawing food. But was a great unit. Well almost 6 months to the day after buying it it's done, gone... no longer working. Taking it back here in a few minutes to see about the warranty."

What's great about it: Stylish and easy to use
What's not so great: Manufacturer instructions could be better - Door could be more substantial
"I recently purchased this microwave and I really llike it.
The only problem stems from the manufacturer needing to provide more detailed instructions (i.e. error messages for things such as -F4- which I get occaisionally on the beverage key).
The door seems to be the weak point on the microwave itself. My old microwave door could be closed by pushing anywhere on the door which felt very substantial but this one "bends" if closed from the top or bottom corner. The door just has a feel of being cheap. The rest of the microwave doesn't have that feel to it though.
Besides that it has been relatively easy to use and clean up quickly. It cooks food evenly with out the cold spots I was used to with my old microwave.
I would recommend this particular microwave even with the two minor concerns I have mentioned."

What's great about it: arrived in excellent condition, very quick to learn the controls, has bell volume control, clock has AM/PM indicator
What's not so great: carousel moves rather jerkily - not sure if that is by design
"This is the very first microwave that I have ever bought, previously, microwaves were either given to me as gifts or as permanent loans. The last permanent loan of a microwave I was given gave up the ghost so I had a choice either permanently borrow a much smaller microwave or go ahead and buy one myself. I arranged a borrow and purchased this GE microwave online and only had to use the borrow for about one day before I got this one. It took some time to remove the cellophane on the stainless steel but that took less than 5 minutes. I then proceeded to read the manual which took maybe 5 minutes then I finished the setup which was very easy. This is the first microwave I have ever run into that has an AM/PM indicator for the clock and a bell volume control - I love both because I prefer to see the time in either AM/PM mode or in 24-hour clock mode and the bell volume control comes in handy because I tend to be a night owl and my husband sleeps nights so it is important to be able to set the bell volume such that it will not wake him.
On the presets, I have so far only used the beverage preset among the presets and will probably never use the popcorn preset (it is not the fault of GE that I will not use the popcorn preset, I just cannot use any of the microwave popcorns on the market due to an airborne allergy to something in all of them) and it made the beverage the proper temperature.
The only con I can think of is that the carousel moves rather jerkily, not sure if this is because the bumps built into the glass plate do not meet up with the ends of the carousel turner and it was designed this way or not, all I can say is that I have observed many other microwaves with carousels and those carousels all moved smoothly. This jerking I mention is not very much but is somewhat noticeable and it does not affect the way the microwave operates."

What's great about it: Cosumer Report tested and recommended!
What's not so great: I wasted my time going to Circuit City first!
"I was very impressed with this microwave oven but not at first. The box was slighty damaged and I was concerned about the condition of the product. But after I opened the box I discovered how well they package this thing and that my concerns would soon disappear.
So now I had to place my first cup of hot chocolate in this GE JES1656 microwave oven for my the first test.
It heated the cup of hot chocolate to perfection. It was heated just right for drinking without being too hot or too cool. It was just right. And so is this microwave oven. It's just right for the money and performance.
Now certainly you can buy another microwave that costs more and it may have more bells & etc. But why would you since this microwave oven can handle almost all of your needs?"

"I have not had to purhcase a microwave in 13 years so when mine went out it was a difficult decision choosing a new one. I bought this microwave and brought it home and fell in love. It has a single button to puch for beverages, popcorn, potato, and re-heat. You can also with a single push of a button select the number of minutes to heat. It is the best purchase I have made in quite a long time. I would recommend this item to anyone in the market for a new microwave."
