What's great about it: fun pvp
What's not so great: only 20 lvls

"This game was very fun, but for me it did not hold my attention for nearly as long as the avereage mmorpg. But it was a blast to play for a couple of months. So I'd recomend buying it considerig its fun to log on and play though the fairly short story and then create a bunch of pvp toons and play against other gamers."

What's great about it: no online fees and good pvp
What's not so great: the max level is 20

"Guild Wars: Game of the Year Edition is the perfect game for people who are new to the online role playing game world mainly because there are no monthly fees or longterm commitments. This is the first Guild Wars chapter in the series. In this game you kill monsters and beat quests in order to level up. The graphics in this game are spectacular and it features many different regions including forests, ruins, snowy mountains, and swamps. There is a large range of monsters for you to attack in your adventure. In the beginning of the game you get to choose between 6 different classes: Warrior, Monk, Necromancer, Ranger, Elementalist, and Mesmer. Further in this game you will get a second profession as well, so you will have a wide variety of skills to use. In this game you are able to see players from around the world in the outposts, but where you fight the monsters outside of town you may only take a select amount of players or NPCs with you. You may face other players in a pvp mode which becomes available later in the game. A small drawback is that the max level for your character is 20 which doesnt take at all long to reach, but with the wide variety of skills your character's level doesnt compare to your technique of playing which makes the pvp very good. The quests in this game are also a little on the lame side and they lack in good role playing to really get you hooked on the game, but in addition to quests there are also 25 missions that carry the storyline of the game very well and these are replayable if you feel the need. Because this is the game of the year edition you can type into the talkbox: "/bonus" and you will recieve bonus weapons. So overall I would recomend buying this game for players new to the gaming world."

Totally addicting game!!!   07/06/2008
By wendyz from Raleigh, NC

What's great about it: Easy playability, quick learning
What's not so great: Loading screens!

"I'm not a "gamer" per say, but when I sit down to play this game all of a sudden it's six hours later and I have stuff I need to be doing... what am I doing sitting at a computer game for 6 hours??? That's just how this game is. Love it! But you can also go a month without playing and them resume right where you started... why? NO MONTHLY FEES!!! But you do have to wait for the loading screens to load the next world, bummer."

Totally ADDICTIVE!   05/13/2008
By Kazuhiro from Yucaipa, CA

What's great about it: FREE online play, HUGE, expansions, FUN FUN FUN!
What's not so great: NONE!

"This game is so much fun...it makes me want to play all the time, and has made me an addict. There are additional expansions, and the game gets better and better the more you play. It's great that after the purchase, you play online without any additional fees, unless you purchase more expansions (there are a few expansions so far). Get this game, and you'll have a great investment of fun."

Great great game   02/14/2008
By SupremeChosenOne from Spokane, WA

What's great about it: playability no pay to play huge maps
What's not so great: some loading screens

"This is simply a great game. The graphic are to die for the playability is amazing it is an al around great game. Thing I like about it Guild Wars is that it is not a pay to play. WoW is a great game all in it’s own but I had a WoW account and my cousin told me about this new game called Guild Wars needles to say I am glad I listened. The game is great if you have even a descent computer. My computer is as slow as it comes but it still does really good for the specs of my computer. All and all a great game."

Great purchase   01/27/2008
By vfall from NJ

What's great about it: Good graphics, no monthly charges, very fun
What's not so great: Short, not a huge lasting appeal

"This game is perfect for the casual player. You are not pressured into playing a lot, because there are no monthly fees. Which is the best part of this game; there is only a one-time fee, the original purchase price.

The game is fairly user-friendly. You can create a Role Playing (RP) character, which lets you play through the game from level 1 all the way up to level 20. You progress through the storyline, which is very good. You pick from six professions and then even pick a secondary one! Throughout the game you get quests in which you complete them. Then there are also "missions". You can meet people in towns to group up with you, or you can just hire henchmen. After that, you go out into certain areas in which you are completely alone with only your party. This makes easy to do your quests because there is not a lot of competition between other players to finish their quests. You can also create a Player vs. Player (PvP) character. This starts you off at level 20, and you can battle other players who are also level 20.

Overall, the game can go by pretty quickly, but the experience from it is definitely worth the money. This is one game that everyone should own!"

The beginning of Guild Wars   09/24/2007
By Sixshot from Melrose, MA

"This is the game that started it all in terms of Guild Wars. This is the first in the series of Guild Wars campaigns that is often dubbed as Guild Wars Prophecies. Unlike the vintage first release, the Game of the Year Edition features 7 bonus items that featured skins once exclusive to Korean players (they appear and work the same to the Korean counterpart but were given a different name in America).
.
This is the first chapter in the Guild Wars series. The six professions available in this campaign set the foundation for which other Guild Wars campaigns will build upon. Unlike the subsequent campaigns, which features not only two additional professions but also new items and little features, Prophecies is the only Guild Wars campaign where many players are able to learn the most skills from simply following the story and completing quests. Some players find this to be most advantageous in contrast to the other campaigns, which only hands you the most basic of all skills. Also of note is that each Guild Wars campaign stands alone on its own. One can own any of the campaigns available but it does not require nor depend on each other for proper play.
.
Out of the three campaigns, Prophecies has been highly regarded as the most visually appealing and having the best written story. And to complete as well as complement the game, the just-released expansion, Eye of the North, enables players to explore every part of Tyria as well as learn the outcome of some of the people they meet in the game.
.
I personally find Prophecies to be a great way to get people started, as the flow of the game enables people to gradually learn new skills and utilize them if necessary. It helps new players break in easily and not have to fumble around with saving in-game money to get the next skill. I suggest anyone who wishes to get into the Guild Wars game to start with this. And if you like the game, purchase Factions or Nightfall or both."

1 of the best Role-Playing or PvP games   09/17/2007
By FFKefka77 from EP, NJ

"If you are into that WoW (World of Warcraft) and you just dont want to play it do to the $15 a month fee. Then GW is for you, there is a ton of people that play this game and it is free online. They dont force you to have to play with a group of actual people, they give you the choice to use hires. So if you dont enjoy people with others, then you are able to solo."

give it a shot   09/14/2007
By hakujinn from san jose, ca

"okay, so there are over 9 million people playing world of warcraft. each person pays 15 bucks a month. before you join the bandwaggon, try this game out. thirty bucks for a game that plays like WoW, feels like WoW, but one thing WoW has that guild wars doesnt: monthly fee's. this is almost the same game with better graphics and a different title. think about it. before you become a WoW freak like the other 9 million, realize that that game is very addicting. you will most likely end up paying each month, meaning that you end up paying around $200 a year for a game you could not pay for once you leave the store. its worth a shot."

Great Game!!   09/09/2007
By UNGCC

"Guild Wars is an excellent game. It has beautiful graphics, and the gameplay is done really well. If you like PvP, this is one of the best games for that.
Another great thing about Guild Wars is that it plays very smooth on 5 to 6 year old computers."
