I just bought this and will return it. At the lowest setting it is incredibly loud. It doesn't cool my 280 sq ft room: running at max cool, with the outside 80F, set at 70F it can only cool to 75F. Funny thing is I bought the Frigidaire FAA068P7A 6000 BTU and it's quiet, performs perfectly in my other room.
What's great about it: Worked out of the box
What's not so great: LOUD

Should have gone with the 6000 BTU - I've read it is pretty quiet.
What's great about it: Good Price, Easy Set Up, Lots of Features
What's not so great: Too loud, even at the lowest setting.

it is LOUD but it dose the job just fine. Now with the people who say like a jet plane they do not now how load that is i work out at the airport and this a/c no were near how loud u guys say it is. and i would recommend it if u can get over it with the nosie b/c it dose do its job

What's not so great: it is a bit loud but not as bad as everyone says

This model does an excellent job of cooling my 20' x 12' living area. It is much quieter than the last AC unit I had. The only difficulty I had was installation.
What's great about it: Efficient, quiet
What's not so great: difficult installation

This unit has an extremely noisy fan. On low-fan speed, this unit is louder than any of my four other window A/C units when they are set on high fan speed. The compressor noise level is fairly low and about the same as my other window units.
I live in an area which has a high level of traffic noise and this A/C unit provides enough white noise to make it a good selection for my bedroom. I WOULD NOT CONSIDER this unit for a room in which you want to watch TV or listen to music. Some people may not want this level of white noise in the room where they sleep.
This unit is a model FAA085P7A and not the FAA086P7A unit that is shown on the Frigidare web site. The FAA085P7A does not have the same full-function remote as the FAA086P7A nor the outside air venting of the FAA086P7A. The full-function remote allows you to view the current temperature setting on the remote and use the remote as a remote temperature sensor, should you desire. If you have an odd-shaped room or just want to sense air temperature away from the A/C unit itself, look at the FAA086P7A which lists for about $10 more than this FAA085P7A unit.
On the positive: I followed the unpacking and installation instructions and had no trouble installing the unit; the unit is considerably smaller and lighter than the current unit that I replaced it with; the filter is easy to remove for cleaning; the high EER rating should help with the electric bill; and the digital temperature control operates the unit within +/- 1 degree F of the setting shown on the machine.
Hope this helps anyone who is considering buying this unit.

Purchased for our bedroom. The fan (on low speed) sounds like a jet air plane. It is so loud you can not hear the compressor go on and off. I would not have believed it if I had not heard it for myself. The sound is high pitched like a jet engine and I know that the engineers could have made it a little quieter by just changing the pitch on the blades.
It is going back to the store for a different unit. I will read reviews first this time.
What's great about it: Nice easy remote.
What's not so great: LOUD, the fan is louder then the compressor. Heard a Jet Air Plane!?!

We actually bought this unit in 2007 and it worked very well. Lived in a house last year w/central air so we gave this unit to our neighbor. Now we're back in our old house and we have to buy another one. Didn't have any problems with original one just thought we wouldn't need it-bummed that we gave it away!
What's great about it: Cost, remote

Sounds like someone is mowing the lawn in your bedroom. The noise is equivilent to sleeping on a runway. Wouldn't even take it as gift.

This is a good product. As far as it being loud, I just replaced a 8 year old machine with this unit and it is quieter that the previous one. The remote is a bit much, but it helps when you are sleeping and don't want to get up.
I read a review regarding having to take the product apart to get all the packing styrofoam out....news flash, that styrofoam is supposed to be there. There is no need to open the unit up! Just take it out of the box and put it in your window.
What's great about it: Gets cold fast, EASY install!
What's not so great: The Remote
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is a BAD AC. It does not cool even a small room in an apartment on an 88 degree day. And it's very loud as it blows around its warm air. I have signed up just to write this review to warn everyone else to STAY AWAY. Literally the dumbest purchase I have ever made. I've had it on for 2 hours and it's gotten MORE humid in the room, temperature unchanged. I do like the remote though.
What's great about it: Fits in your window. Blows air around
What's not so great: Doesn't make your room cooler, LOUD

I don't know what people are complaining about relative to noise. This air conditioner really throws out the air which is what's needed for proper circulation. Strong air flow always causes a "woosh" sound. It cools things down fast and to my middle age ears, is no noisier than any well functioning air conditioner that has enough air flow to circulate the cool air into a large area. It's got a very decent 10.8 EER rating, using only 7.1 Amps. This is important for an older New York apartment with older wiring and limited Amps. It seems to be made very well.
What's great about it: Good price. Typically easy setup, really throws cold air, excellent for price.
What's not so great: I would like the unit to be able to pull out of the case for end of year cleaning.
I would recommend this to a friend!

this is the worst purchase i have ever made from BB. I purchased 2 machines at the same time. One for my bedroom and my son's room. Where should i begin
1) packaging- i hade to take the entire machine apart to get all of the styrofoam from inside the machine.
2) air only blows from left side of one machine.
3) after taking the entire machine apart it stopped blowing air and the electronic panel on the side no longer registerd the numbers completely.
4) extremly loud
after all of this headache.. i am returning both machines. I will never purchase a Frigidaire again.
Lessoned learned..you get what you pay for 8,000 btu's 199.99. need i say more.

This air conditioner is great aside from the horrible noise level. I have to have my TV volume on at least 35 in order to hear it over the AC. When somebody calls, I always turn the AC off so I can hear the person speaking. The niose is like something you wouldn't beleive could come out of a modern appliance. I wouldn't recommend it.
What's great about it: Quickly cools room
What's not so great: It sounds like a hurricane is blowing through my room.

Before I discovered this model, I bought a different unit at another store which was a nightmare because it didn't work and we had a lot of trouble returning it.
Then I used the in-store pickup option on this website to buy the Frigidaire AC, and it was such an excellent experience from simple start to easy, chilly finish.
Great value! I've never been happier with an AC before.

I selected this air conditioner over other 8,000 BTU units for the remote control and air filtration features. Unfortunately these are the only things this ac unit has going for it. It is incredibly LOUD even at its lowest setting. There is little air from the left side vent so most all of the cooling is pushed to the right side of the unit. I am amazed that this unit can be considered 8,000 BTUs as my much older and basic 5,000 BTU unit in another room (of similar size) out preforms this one by far.
What's great about it: remote control
What's not so great: loud, little air from left side, poor cooling

I currently have a two story home with air conditioning on both floors, during the hot summer there is one room that gets very hot regardless of if I have on the AC or not. The room that gets hot its my sons bedroom, alot of times he might be the only person upstairs that has to deal with the heat, so i began looking into room ac's, i felt it was pointless to use the whole upstairs AC on one hot room! This unit perfoms!!! when it is turned on, the room is cold within minutes. When the unit is on it sounds like an air conditioner inside your car, no big deal. I have had no issues with rattling noises, but then again I did also have bestbuy install in for me. Not only does this unit serve its purpose, it saves me energy!! great purchase.
What's great about it: Gets cold very fast, you dont have to use central air for one room, best buy installed it
What's not so great: It is an AC, you have to understand there will be some noise
I would recommend this to a friend!

it's getting too hot lately so i decided to buy a/c and i can tell, this was pretty good purchase.
it's not a quiet a/c but not that noisy either.
remote control which includes battery is very useful,
it was not hard to install, but it will be much easier if someone can help you because it's very heavy.

After a very sleepless evening, I am writing this review just before I pack up this A/C to bring it back. I cannot believe the noise this thing makes. I was up all night, at times in shock at the extreme noise that came out of this A/C. It does everything it claims to...cools completely...even a bigger space than BTU's should do...but the noise is unreal! I could not hear the TV unless it was way up and for the little time that I did sleep, I woke up with the biggest headache. I am very disappointed. I usually like the noise of an air conditioner but this is CRAZY! Once Energy Saver kicks in the unit shuts off and then your head is throbbing and ears are ringing. No joke! Think twice before purchasing this if you ever want to hear a thing in your home again, as well as your own thoughts!
What's great about it: Works wonderfully...cools instantly
What's not so great: Loud in all modes

after i bought this from reading reviews .
Bought online picked up in local store.
I am very satisfied with my purchase.
It maybe kinda of heavy but it is one nice piece of cooling beast.
My room is not the largest and not the smallest.
This thing cools my room down fast.
i have bad insulation in my home and around windows but this thing still manages to do the job.
To each his own . Me i really enjoy this thing.

My husband & I bought this for our bedroom & we love it. I need noise to sleep. I cannot sleep if it's quiet, whether there is outside noise or not. I usually run a large box fan on high, all year round. That's why I love this air conditioner. Can't hear any outside noise. It cools our fairly large room pretty quickly, and saves energy too! We are going to purchase one for our teenage daughter's room, also.
What's great about it: Cools fast, filters air, check filter light, loud
What's not so great: Air flow adjustment could be better, filter could be easier to get in & out
I would recommend this to a friend!
