What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: Sound is just okay, too big
Sound is good but not the richness expected from a Sony product. Very easy to use, lightweight, but a little too big. Overall, pleased with the quality for the price. Good value.

What's great about it: The looks and the choice of music
What's not so great: No carrying case
I own two boom boxes , one located in the Bathroom, one located in my Bedroom I really enjoy the features, and the quality sound, and can choose what I want to hear, the Digital , playing, the CD, Tape, etc.

What's great about it: sony quality, lightweight, good look.
What's not so great: cassete is a waste, obsolete.
how can ya go wrong? i just needed something real quick for a small gathering, and this was great. sound is good, big sound. good bass. i did not even need the cassete, who does anymore? but radio, and cd, are top notch.

I bought this boombox because of the reviews. It had the highest 'star' rating of them all, and I trust customers more than anything. I think the unit sounds OK, slightly above average for a portable boombox. The value is excellent, you get your money's worth, I believe.
The 3 issues I have are: 1. The Mega Bass button. The bass button does minimal improvement, but it does slightly enhance the quality. I wish it had more bass. Better yet, if it had just some way to control the bass. It needs to be boosted louder. You really have to listen closely to tell the difference when turning it on, but I want all the bass it can give me. 2. The handle is weird. It is designed on a curve and hugs the unit so that when the handle is down it fits snug and does not stick out. However, if you want to pick it up and carry it, the handle won't go all the way up. It likes a few degrees being perpendicular with the top and causes it to be awkward to carry because the weight wants to go forward. I can live with that though because I don't carry it much. 3. The digital tuner is off somewhat. All stations are 0.1 Hz off. In other words, 91.9 comes in ok at that frequency, but comes in much clearer at 92.0. 93.1 comes in ok, but comes in much clearer at 93.2... so make sure you try tuning it slightly even thought the channel indicator says you are on your intended station.
I bought this boombox for my covered back porch so it works excellent for that.
Some of the things I like: I love the remote control. I thought I would not use this, but use it all the time. It is simple to operate and small. I like the preset stations and the digital tuner, plus they are near the top so you can view the window easily. As I said earlier, I like the sound ok and the value is well worth it compared to other units. I like the overall size and design (except for the handle). I probably will rarely ever use the cassette portion and I would rather it not have had the cassette deck, but it is there. I looked for an old cassette and verified that it plays well, if you want it for that purpose, but cassettes are a thing of the past for me and I really wish it didn't have it and maybe it would be a little smaller, but it is still not too large.
I just bought it a couple of weeks ago so I haven't had time to fully tell how long it will last. I bought a Sony bookshelf stereo for my son and it only lasted about 8 months. I thought being a Sony it would last longer. Only time will tell about this boombox, but so far, so good. I bought the Best Buy extended warranty just because of this past history with Sony. It was only about $11 for 2 years coverage, and I thought it was definitely worth that.... less than 50 cents per month. Since it is portable, you may need it.
I would recommend this product, but to be safe I would recommend buying the extended warranty.

The sound is excellent on this machine. But out of the box it didn't want to work using the buttons on the machine. It wouldn't even power up. It only operated with the remote. I've used it about five times and now even the remote won't turn it on or make it work. I've changed the batteries several times and still no go. It's going in the trash.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: Cassette ( ! ) & CD Player
What's not so great: Can't pull in some radio stations
I'm sure anyone who still has an extensive cassette tape collection knows what I'm talking about - not to mention the disappearing CD as well. I'm not afraid to throw away my cassettes when they get bad, but I do like to hear them at least a few times before that happens. This is a nice looking piece, the sound is good, you've got a lot of presets for the radio bands plus the CD & cassette players. It's a pretty silver color & fits in well with most any decor.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Having lots of cassettes from the '80's, I wanted a stereo player with decent sound, that could still play them. This unit works beautifully. The remote does not control the tape-deck, but that's okay, it works fine for power, volume, CD's and the radio. There's no 'tone control', but then the sound is good enough without it -- both on speakers and ear-phones.
This unit does what it's supposed to, at a very reasonable price, with excellent sound. Highly recommended.

I was looking for a sound system that would allow me to play some of my cassette collection, especially Christmas music. At the same time, I can play todays CDs or listen to a baseball game on the radio. The fact that I found a Sony was perfect, because every Sony item I have ever owned has been of the best quality and durability. This system has not diappointed one bit. It sounds great, is lightweight and very versatile. Another plus is that it takes batteries or can plug into the wall outlet. Finally, the price was very reasonable. I highly recommend this unit.

I've gone through many cassette-CD boom box players in my nursing home singing ministry; I need a good player with strong volume. This particular model has beaten out every other one I've ever had, including some other Sony models. I don't use the radio so can't comment on its virtues, but I can vouch for the wearability of the casssette and CD players - the volume especially is great as it's loud enough for most to hear in a room of up to 100 people. I highly recommend this player if you need something that you're going to tote around, use often, and need people to be able to hear well without having a PA system. How many ways can I put it? GET THIS ONE!

What's not so great: It would not perform the function it was designed for!
I bought this item thinking that it was of good quality and would last for a while. After about 18 months of occasional use it developed a problem and would not play CDs.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This model still plays cassettes and CD's which was what I wanted.
I especially like the remote so I can switch through each function and band without having to move the Boombox or me. The mega bass sound is excellent,
