"Canon 350D is (still) a great DSLR, a value for money camera. It have a very good in-camera image processing, JPEG's are almost as good as RAW's. It is possible to use full Canon EF lens compatible (plus EF-S lenses).
One of the best features is the very low noise levels even at ISO 1600, and is virtually unnoticeable below this. Almost no noise in long exposures, optional noise reduction if required.
Is very fast at startup (virtually instant) and offer customizable exposure steps (1/3, or 1/2 EV).
Some others good features:
- playback magnification up to 10x (perfect for checking focus), even LCD monitor is small and have only 115.000 pixel resolution.
- excellent Compact Flash Write performance (with fast card)
- USB 2.0 Hi-Speed – great for downloading pictures from camera
And, to be objective (even I love this camera) some bad things:
- first (AND THE WORST): kit lens is poor: better buy body model with a decent lens (tele or grandangular, as you prefer)
- controls for ISO, metering, AF mode and White Balance require extra SET press – in time is OK, but for beginners…
- ISO sensitivity not displayed on viewfinder status bar or LCD panel while being changed
- opening the CF compartment door shuts camera down, loses any buffered images and DANGEROUS when cleaning the sensor
- flash must be raised for AF assist"

Great Camera

"I have owned my Canon digital SLR for over two years now, and I absolutely love it. I held on to my Canon 35mm SLR forever, because I felt like switching to a digital camera would take some of the "art" out of the photography, but once I switched, I wondered why I didn't do it sooner. The pre-programmed settings make this camera easy for anyone to use and take great pictures. The rechargeable battery is handy, and the charge lasts quite a while. It is very easy to download photos from the camera to your computer even without the software that came with the camera, by popping the photo card into your printer (if it has media card slots) or by plugging a cable into the camera and USB port on your PC. Overall, it is very user friendly, and now that the price has decreased, it is a great value."

"Before this camera I had only used point and shoot digital and 35mm cameras. Now I can never go back, my pass-time turned into an addiction. The features, lenses, quality, and ease of use that this camera offers are astonishing. I started out just buying the 60mm macro lens and the 70-300mm zoom when I originally got this camera. Now I have more lenses and equipment than I ever thought possible. I am up to about 15,000 pictures and going strong without any problems and it just keeps getting better. If you are looking for a great camera to get you into SLR photography this is it. I am considering upgrading to the 30D soon, but I plan to keep my XT as a backup and to use with a wide angle lens while keeping the longer telephoto lens mounted on the second camera body. For the price though, you would be hard-pressed to find a better deal."

"I just purchased a Rebel XT as a replacement for my old 35MM Canon Rebel XS SLR that has been gathering dust on my shelf for the last couple of years.
The leap to a digital SLR from a digital point and shoot is like night and day. Sure there are newer versions of Canon's Digital SLR, but the current price/performance of this model is hard to beat."

The primary con to the camera is that it is no longer in active production by Canon, however this detail should not dissuade any potential customers. There still exists any great number of lenses, batteries, sun shades, etc that are available for the product. "This is my first "DSLR" camera & I love it! It's easy to use, takes good pictures and is a good wayto learn how to take professional pictures. I've had this for about 6 months now and I've made 2 photobooks with it using snapfish.com i have the books on my coffee table and my guest think it's a professional photobook b/c of the quality of the pictures. I read up the manual, bought a digital SLR camera Dummies book & the rest is HISTORY. Taking pictures is now my new hobby. I love it! I also bought some new lenses, but the lense that came with the camera is good to start on."

"This is my first SLR camera. I did have a regular digital camera and I bought my SLR for a move up. I just got the camera before I went on a trip to Colorado. After I got use to all of the different settings it took really good pics. It has a bunch of different settings that take some time to get use to but as soon as you find out how to properly use it becomes a peice of cake to make great pictures. I think I am going to buy a new lens for it so I can zoom in closer. The lens that it comes with is good but it doesnt zoom in enough for far away pics. Over all it is a great camera to learn on."

"I have been very pleased with this camera. After shooting with it for 3 years I am very ready for an upgrade. Shoots great with lower ISO and you get pretty good results with the higher ones if you nail the exposure. On pic.s where my exposure wasn't dead on I noticed a lot of grain in the photos. Well worth the money if you want to learn how to shoot in manual which I would sugget if you are puchasing a SLR in any case."

"This is a great starter camera for anyone who just wants to take pictures or anyone who wanted to go into photography as a job. It has great durability, but the sliver lining makes it look cheap. The battery life is ok, but could be better. The screen is very small and you can not control as many things on here as you can the XTi.
Although, this is a very good price for this camera. I reccomend this camera to any starter in photography or anyone who just wants to take pictures."

"This camera is a great first DSLR. The price is low, and it is very easy to take very good pictures. I have seen no problems with the auto settings. When you want to go manual it has alot of capability. The lens it comes with, an 18-55 is a descent all around lens for general use. I do wish the battery lasted a little longer but I needed to by a second one anyway. If you are thinking about buying a first DSLR you should seriously consider this one. My daughter and I have already spent countless hours taking great pictures with it."

"The most important piece of advice I read when I was researching a DSLR is to remember that cameras don't make the photographs, you do. If you are first starting out in the world of DSLR, as I am, you will be happy with this camera. Unless you have money to burn, I would advise you to save the money you would spend on the "top of the line" camera to purchase a nice lens, which will make a big difference in you photos."
