What's great about it: Looks good, works well. What's not so great: Somewhat challenging to setup.
"This is my second Netgear router I've purchased and am very pleased. My first one was an older model that finally started going on the fritz. I expected to setup and configure rather quickly but it took longer than I expected. Somewhat discouraging. In the end it works very well. Oh yea, and the blue light on top is cool."

My First Router01/02/2008
By ComputerJunkyfrom Oklahoma City, OK
What's great about it: It has a great signal, Easy setup, & Looks good on Desk. What's not so great: None
"I just got the Router on the 27th of December, for an old laptop I got. It didn't take long to setup, but in the other reviews I thought it would take longer, which it didn't. Doesn't really cost that much compared to the other 802.11G ones they had. I was gonna get a D-Link one because the laptop has a D-Link Usb Adapter, so I thought they might work together better. But when I saw this one at the store I thought I should get it instead because it was cheaper. I did start having some problems lately with the laptop picking up the signal and I didn't know if it was the laptop or the Router. And when I have the laptop on my desk, on the other side of the house it kept losing the signal but when it was even farther away on my bed it had a better signal. I think it was because I have an antenna for a stereo, and a lot of wires, plus it is in a corner of the bedroom. I'm gonna get a new adapter for the laptop because the one I have now, I am borrowing from a friend. when I get the new one I will give another review of what it thanks of it. I do recommend this router to a friend."

Great Buy12/29/2007
By Peetiefrom Little Elm, TX
What's great about it: The setup was quite simple, only took about 20 mins What's not so great: Didn't realize right off that the "wired" computer was needed to access the website
"I was unsure about this product, but decided to give it a try when two different reps from Best Buy recommended it. I have my desktop and notebook connected and have had no problems logging on to the internet. I have had this product for over a week now and have never lost a signal. I have gone all over my house and not one problem to report; my house is about 2000 sq feet. The speed is terrific; I have had more than five internet browsers open at one time and the speed continunes."

so far so good12/24/2007

"i have had this router for a day. I simply fallowed all of the instructions and bam al of the computers plugged into the back were working. And then the moment of truth came when i plugged my pci card into my computer and after getting that set up it worked like a charm. I have 3 bars most of the time but sometimes 4 bars. And i am all the way upstairs 3 floors above were the router is. My download speeds are actually 2 times faster then when i was using a cord(this was probaly because i was using a switch). I always lag out but not yet today, my brother has already downloaded 2 800 megabite movies and a have been downloading things here and there for my new computer. This product was HIGHLY recomended to me from ALL of the bestbuy and geeksquad people. They even said that my bestbuy stores wireless was using that one roughter. So i would highly recomend this product to anyone who wants good speed and still has to go a long range."

...30 minutes later...12/20/2007
By PBToonfrom Dearborn, MI
What's great about it: Does what it says! What's not so great: None yet...
"Not to drag you completely thru my past, but you need to know where I'm coming from. I had a Linksys wired router, then upgraded to the wireless A+G router a few years back. That router never worked as well as I thought it should, took a long time to install, and NEVER worked with my company's VPN. After lots of tech talk with customer support and firmware upgrades, I was told by their tech support to use my new router as an access point with the old wired router... --- Move forward a few years. After getting frustrated with the wireless performance (or lack, thereof) in my house, and not enough speed to really use my work account (unless I sit next to the wireless access point - might as well plug in!). I read some online reviews, and decide to head to Best Buy to get a new router. I talk to the friendly staff, and an even friendlier Geek and decide to buy the Netgear WPN 824. If it does what it says and I get what a g network is supposted to give, I'll be happy. --- ...30 minutes later, I'm home, it's set up, the installation Wizard is magical, and I've never seen my work email fly by so fast!!!! This is AWESOME!!!! ...and I can sit on both ends of my couch...and even in the back of my house where the wireless never worked before (at least not mine, I usually pick up neighbors networks back there...just to rub it in) --- I should probably have waited at least a few full hours before writing a review, however, I'm really happy and wish that I would have taken action sooner. --- Now to see if I can get it to work with my Media Extender.... Happy Holidays!"

Excellent Router!12/20/2007
By ThaDrewskifrom Georgia
What's great about it: Almost effortless setup, nice throughput, and great coverage. What's not so great: Little to no problems...so far.
"I was in the market to find the most affordable wireless router, while maintaining quality. As of now, I have had no problems securing the network, and it does a decent job of prioritizing the network. I have a XBox 360 wired through it with a desktop and laptop communicating wirelessly. Never had to worry about dropped syncronizations or any network degrading. Home network was a snap, and being that I got it on sale for under $60, I would definitely suggest this router to anyone looking for an affordable solution like me.
P.S. XBox live is a breeze with this router...No problems here!!!"

What's great about it: Great Range/Reliability What's not so great: n/a
"I have owned this router for 8 months and have had no problems with it. It was very easy to set up and worked right away. Was hard to follow online set-up manual when I got to the step that said to unplug the internet from the computer, so I just wrote the instructions down. Works over a great distance with great strength(can play Xbox 360 up two floors and across the house with no problem). Never gone down and always works fast. Don't bother spending more money than the $80 that this router costs."

Disappointed12/11/2007

What's great about it: Looks Great, Better Coverage than Standard G What's not so great: WebPage Slow to Display
"I purchased this Netgear RM to replace my Linksys wrt54g that I always seemed to have issues with. Well this Netgear is one cool looking router with the blue lights and all. Very Cool... Setup was simple and I had it going in only a few mins. Coverage is a step of from the Linksys and the Standard G and I get a decent signal throughout my home. The only issue I am having is that there is a lag when pulling up websites. It literally takes 2-4 seconds for the page to display which I guess is not a real long time but when you are used to the page popping right up this is very bothersome. I called Netgear and was told that this is how the router operates due to the firewall/filtering. We did try a few tweaks but nothing worked. So at this point I can either deal with the delay or get something else. Unfortunately I do not feel for the price that I should have this type of issue and I am going to replace it tonight with a different brand."

Great Wireless Router!!!12/06/2007
By tednnessfrom Wichita, KS
What's great about it: Easy set-up and installation and superior coverage What's not so great: None
"I bought this router to replace a D-Link piece of junk. With my D-Link I could barely get a good signal on my laptop when I was sitting 4 feet away from the router in the same room! In addition to the poor signal strength the D-Link repeatedly dropped the connection. So, after much frustration and a slew of curse words, I finally bought the Netgear WPN824 RangeMax. Simply put, this is the best purchase I've made in a long time!!! The signal strength is phenomenal. Anywhere I go in my house I have excellent signal. I have never encountered a dropped connection and the set-up was a breeze. All in all, you can't go wrong with this router."

Very good router12/04/2007

What's great about it: very sleek looking, MIMO technology, internal antennas, pretty easy installation What's not so great: on the high end of 802.11g routers
"Overall I'm very pleased with this router. I purchased it last night and it took me about 20 minutes to hook it up. I got stuck on where it reset the network. It kept telling me that it couldn't connect to the internet, but I did something that made it work (couldn't tell you what now). As soon as it was up and running things went great. The installation CD was very good at walking you through the installation process. It's also great because you don't have to worry about external antennas. Since the antennas are internal there's no chance they can be damaged by mishandling. The lights showing which antennas are working is very cool as well, but kind of annoying since our main computer is in the master bedroom. The flashing lights could keep me from going to sleep. It's nice that Netgear gives you a button on the back to turn the lights off."

Easy to Use!12/03/2007
By BrianBfrom Quahog, RI
What's great about it: Simple set-up; great range; fast What's not so great: has to be reset often
"If you want 802.11g, which will be out of date in a couple of years as it's replaced by the much faster 802.11n devices, then this is your router. Don't ask any more questions, just get it. I've had two and given them away before finally making the leap to 802.11n.
The only negative is that, depending on your cable modem provider, you may have to pull the power and reinsert to reestablish connectivity after a long stretch. This is a problem that is traced to the cable modem provider, rather than the router. I suspect there's a way the router could handle the problem better, but not at this pricepoint. Just a warning that if your internet goes out on you, don't call tech support - just pull the plug, give it a second, then put it back in."

What's not so great: Many problems for installation
"I had hard experience with NETGEAR. I bought NETGEAR WPN824 Wireless Router along with WPN311 Adapter. The instructions for installation of the router were wrong from step 1. The software for setting up the router does not work at all. The only way to do it is to use the Advanced User method. The software they offer for setting up the wireless connection on the side of the adapter works only at installation and never again. I spent some hours on the telephone trying to get NETGEAR support and sometimes I did and sometimes I did not."

Best Bang for your Buck!!11/25/2007
By SportsFreakfrom Wisconsin
What's great about it: Never drops! Always a strong signal! What's not so great: Range might go a little to far. (If thats a bad thing)
"This unit packs quite the punch. I own a small town sports pub and grub. I have many sports fanatics who are always wanting the most up to date fantasy football scores all the time. Last Year I got cable internet and this wireless router. Since set up it went down only once during a power outage. I have never had one problem with it ever! There are times when I will have 8-10 people on the network and I have yet to have some one complain about it being slow or down. Setup: Very easy Range: Great Strength of Signal: Awesome Price: Reasonable for what you get (im cheap) The only con that i have is the fact that the range on this thing is rather large. I do have some mischievous teens in the area that know its an open network and tend to go war driving and dump on the people that are on our network. Other than that... I have no complaints. (this could easily be solved if i password protected the network) However I would rather not because then I would have to post it in the bar anyways."

What's great about it: Range, Speed, Price, Design
"Bought this on Thanksgiving Sale, next day it doubled in price and was out of stock! Maybe the naysayers got lemons....personally, I've never had problems with solid state construction. This puppy has great range covering our entire house (about level 3 out of 5 on the other side of the house) and great speed. Security features are wonderful and the whole thing sets up fast and easy....just follow the instructions on the CD and don't try to get too cute with it, you don't need to bother with the question about any existing router....just answer no. The design is sleek and has feet to stand it up in any position. Personally, I don't need all the flashing blue lights showing connectivity, but Netgear thoughtfully put an LED on/off switch in the back to satisfy your preference for this feature. Lastly, they recommend a RangeMax adapter at about $50 for optimal performance. I decided not to buy this add-on and was glad I declined as none of our computers needed it to get a good connection. Highly recommend!"

What's great about it: increased range, increased speed What's not so great: none
"I upgraded from a WGT624v2 Netgear router and I definately have much more range and speed. I have two desktops, a laptop and a Wii. Never could get much range or speed on the laptop, and nothing on the WII, but now all is fine. I bought the router first and was using my laptop wifi but didn't really notice a difference in speed, only range - then I bought the Netgear Rangemax PC Card and it made a big difference. As far as the Wii, the router is on the 2nd floor upstairs, and Wii on the opposite side of the house in the basement and the speed is surprising. I was a little concerned reading some of the reviews, but I'm glad I went with the Netgear."
