Best Vacuum I have ever owned

What's great about it: Keeps on sucking
"I felt dirty after I used this vacuum for the first time. It picked up everything. If it loses suction the part come apart very easily to find the clog. I was skeptical about spending so much, but have found it is well worth it. The hose did develope a tear, but Dyson repaired it free of charge. My in-laws borrowed my Dyson when their Vac crapped out, and now they are Dyson owners. Great Vac."

"I bought this vacuum because the wife wanted it. I was going to show her how it was just another vacuum and buy the $99 vacumm I wanted. After a few days I have found that it not only will it be staying, but I have talked my neighbor into buying one. I would have had my wife write the review, but she has not had a chance to use it.I keep using it to find out something it wont pick up. It works on my hardwood floors and carpet. It is very quit campaired to other vacuums. I could go on and on, but I feel a little weard talking about a vacuum. Bottom line it is worth a try. I bet you keep it. I did get it for $299 on sale plus 10% coupon."

Sucks in a bad way

What's great about it: better than nothing
What's not so great: broke 4 times!
"I have had this cleaner now for 3 years and it has been sent to service 4 times for LOSS OF SUCTION. They replaced the beater bar, the internal hoses the filter and then they finally granted me a replacement. I am only bummed because Best Buy does not sell any service plan/black tie protection on these units any more. My sister and mother have the purple Dyson, the Animal and they have NEVER had a problem. So I guess if you are thinking about a new vacuum the purple one is the best. That's what I am replacing mine with."

What's great about it: Can't think of anything.
What's not so great: Cost
"Paying $400 for a vacuum. Read the reviews both good and bad. Read Consumer Reports review. Should have listen to them. The suction is no better than my cheap Dirt Devil and I believe after changing the ol' DD filter it was better than the Dyson.
The tools are hard to use. Very unfriendly.
Don't waste your money. Read Consumer Reports.
As usual Best Buy was great. It's this product that was the issue."

"I have had numerous vacuums, and this Dyson easily out performs all of them. It moves easily and has incredible suction. It is also quieter than my previous vacuums. I will buy another Dyson if this one ever gives out."

What's great about it: Great suction, quiet operation

"After my daughter & son-in-law bought a Dyson, I went over to try it out. They bought a DC17. I could not believe the suction on this sweeper. I decided then that when my old sweeper bit the dust that I would definatley replace it with a Dyson.
Last month I bought the DC14 that comes with the basic attatchments. It is a wonderful sweeper. The suction on it is amazing & it is so much quieter than any other sweeper I've ever had. The price was a little more than I would have liked to spend but feel that it was worth it, you get what you pay for. In the future when this one needs replaced, I will once again buy a Dyson, I'm sold!!!!"

Don't Expect Customer Service With This Vacuum

What's great about it: Was good in the beginning, but is made cheap.
What's not so great: Customer service is awful.
"Vacuum is just average for the price. I have had it for a few years and believe it is over-priced for what you get. Customer service is the worst I have ever seen. I ordered a part for my Dyson and received it promptly. I then discovered that I needed a different piece, instead. Was told to mail the piece back (at my expense, which I didn't have a problem with) and they would credit my account. So, I sent the piece back, which they did receive. Well, 3 months later and 6-8 phone calls, I still have not had my account credited for the piece that I sent back. I have heard every excuse imaginable and am still waiting."

"Bought this vacuum about a week ago and love it! So worth the money. Has the best suction power I've ever had in a vacuum. The sales associate told me to use my old vacuum on a room and then the new on and I was so surprised at all the stuff my old vacuum missed. Worth the money!!!"

What's great about it: Used to have great suction but over time....not so much
What's not so great: Loses suction, heavy, wand is awkward
"I have owned my DC14 for just over three years. It's not worth the price. At first I was like everyone else who bought this vacuum. I vacuumed with my original vacuum and then used my newly purchased Dyson and was jumping for joy at the stuff the Dyson pulled up. Well....over time, mine lost suction majorly. It just pushes dirt around on the tile and hardwood floors. I have to use the wand with floor attachment (bought separately) to get any progress and it still tends to push dirt around. I am vacuuming this way because the regular way just does not work. It's a waste of time. It's very frustrating. Not to mention it is very heavy vacumming with the wand. If I wanted a cannister style, I would have bought one. The wand is awkward, you cannot get into tight spaces (i.e. vacumming lint around your dryer or between furniture). The handle gets in the way. The cord is annoying. It sounds great to have that much cord in feet but you will get tangled in it and trip over it, trust me. The plastic/rubber part of the wand also does not extend well. I guess that would be the actual hose. It is so tight that if you go too far, the vacuum comes flying at you or your wall if you're not careful. It's also just plain heavy and cumbersome. I could ignore the heaviness when it had excellent suction, but now I am disappointed that I spent nearly $500 on this vacuum. I expected it to last much much longer then just over three years. $500 on a vacuum should be an investment not a piece of equipment you use and throw away like it's nothing in just a few years. Highly disappointed. If you're looking for a long lasting vacuum investment, don't bother. By the way, my Dyson was never abused nor is my house dirty where it would mess up the Dyson. It is just not worth the money."

"Our old vacuum finally died and we began shopping for a replacement. After trying several models and brands in the store, none of them could compare to the Dyson! The suction is just amazing, even when using the hand tools. Its a lightweight design, but the quality of plastics are excellent and very sturdy. The best thing is that the air coming out of the vacuum smells cleaner than the air going in! The price is a little high, but it comes with a 5 year warranty. The best vacuum cleaner we have owned!"

What's great about it: Terrific suction. Allows you to easily clean where mere mortal vacuums could clog. Attractive design.
What's not so great: Price, price and price. Just too expensive for many people.
"My parents bought one of these after I had been wanting one for some time. My mother loved it, so I broke down and bought one for my new home, and I cannot say enough about it.
Innovative, well though out design. The entire handle removing to become the wand is ingenious and will keep this unit from tipping when reaching down to clean behind furniture or overhead to clean ceiling fans (my old vac has tipped over on me more times than I can count).
The corner and pivot points are all easily removable for cleaning so there is no spot where this vac can clog and require servicing.
If you can wait for a sale (Best Buy is always offering good prices on this unit), do so and then grab it up. Your wallet may be lighter, but you won't be disappointed."

What's great about it: Gets up tons of pet hair and dirt.
What's not so great: A little heavy. And I'm not fond of the yellow.
"Overall, I like this vacuum a lot. The day we bought it, we used our old vacuum first, and then went over the carpet with this one - it was amazing how much dog hair and dirt it got up! I like that it is bagless and easy to empty. The only downside is that it is a little heavy. We just have one story, but I wouldn't want to lug it up and down stairs all the time. Also, it sometimes makes a strange noise when going from carpet to a flat surface, but seems to keep working okay."

What's great about it: Brushed stop spinning when you are using the hose, hose is very long, excellent sucking power, you can see results.
What's not so great: Could be a little lighter for my split level home.

"I just vacuumed with my new Dyson. I am impressed. I had used my sisters Dyson and I knew I wanted one. Having 2 cats, I get a lot of hair. This machine picked it all up. No going over and over in 1 spot. I also noticed that this vacuum is quieter than my old one. It makes cleaning a pleasure to do, knowing you got everything picked up."

"We have had our Dyson for over a year. It is a great vacuum. It really can pick up tons of dirt that you didn't even know was there. It also has a really long warranty which is nice since the vacuum is more expensive than other models.
Only problem is my wife's hair got tangled around brushes and was a pain to get out. Lost some suction when hair was on brushes, but improved after we cleaned it."

What's great about it: No bags or filters needed, relatively light wait, easy mobility and of course great suction
What's not so great: price, no stair tool included(but available for purchase)
"The last vacuum I owned was heavy, extremely hard to push, the hose would constantly come unattached from one end or the other while you were trying to vacuum and emptying the container was just making another mess. It drove me nuts!! Lucky for me it stopped working all together. So the hunt began for a vacuum that would be a pleasure to use. After researching vacuum cleaners online and at the stores we decided on the Dyson DC14. One of the main selling features was that there are no bags to buy and no filters to buy, which you have to consider when you are comparing vacuums and thinking about the cost.
It does have great suction power. It's very easy to push, even on plush carpet. It's not to loud, and it only 18.6 lbs which is one of the lighter full size upright vacuums.
Also emptying the container is quick and easy.
I haven't owned it long enough to comment on reliability, but it does come with a 5 year warranty, which is better than others.
We are happy with the purchase.
Dyson has made vacuuming a pleasure not a chore."

"Honestly I was disappointed by this vacuum. It's not that it doesn't work well but I don't think it is worth the price at all! The pluses are that it works well, it's bagless and the bare floor setting works great. Most vacuums I have had on the bare floor setting tend to throw the dirt around as much as they are picking it up, not so with the Dyson. On the other hand I absolutly hate using the hose with this vacuum. It comes out from the handle and is a pain to use. Weighing all the factors I don't think this vacuum is worth the money and I don't think I would buy it again. Put it this way, if you are on a tight budget and you are saving for this vacuum cause of all the hype you have read about it I would suggest getting a different vacuum."

"I bought this almost a year ago, and I LOVE my Dyson. It is well worth the money. I had one little problem with the cord a few months after I purchased it, there was a small discoloration that looked like it could become a crack in the rubber. I called Dyson and they found me a service center and I had my cord replaced the same day I brought it to the service center, no charge. When you pay high dollar for a product, you get a high quality of service. This is especially true for Dyson, and the five year warranty is awesome. It cleans ridiculously well, and I love the fact that it always smells so good, none of that nasty smell I'd get with my Hoover because there's no bag. It is also great for stair cleaning because of the telescopic wand. My carpets look awesome all the time now because of this vacuum. It's well worth the money."

"I LOVE this vacuum. I had a Hoover that I bought 3 years ago, and all it does at this point is suck dog hair in the front, and shoot it out the back. I had to go over areas multiple times to clean them. This DYSON rocks. It picks items up the first time, so it makes the job go quicker. It is not as loud as my Hoover, either. The cord lenght lets me plug into a central outlet in my house to do the whole floor instead of moving the plug around, and it is not as heavy as my Hoover, which I am surprised at. The only drawback is the high front profile, which wont let me put it under the bed or my toe-kicks under the kitchen cabinets, but is sucks so well that i don't need to go that far anyway. My area rugs are brigher and the floor FEELS clean after I vacuum. It use to be a chore to do this job, now I don't mind it at all. Thanks, DYSON."
